Hello. I'm Amanda Goodman. | :00:12. | :00:13.
First tonight, two months ahead of the vote | :00:14. | :00:15.
on Scottish independence, people living in the town dubbed Lhttle | :00:16. | :00:17.
Scotland have voted overwhelmingly to keep the UK intact. | :00:18. | :00:23.
A referendum has been held today in Corby, the Northamptonshhre town | :00:24. | :00:26.
People there had campaigned to be given a real vote, | :00:27. | :00:32.
and in the last hour the result of their own poll was announced | :00:33. | :00:34.
It is the Highland gathering, first staged in the 1960s | :00:35. | :00:38.
to celebrate the townspeople's Scottish heritage. | :00:39. | :00:43.
It's been estimated well over half of Corby's population are | :00:44. | :00:45.
But they won't be able to take part in the real referendum themselves. | :00:46. | :00:53.
I think the Scottish people, if you were born in Scotland, there is an | :00:54. | :00:57.
argument they should get the vote because it will have the be`ring on | :00:58. | :01:00.
whether in two years time, hf they go to Scotland, whether they need ID | :01:01. | :01:02.
It could change everything about what they do to go | :01:03. | :01:08.
and see their mums, their dads, their aunties. | :01:09. | :01:10.
It wasn't supposed to be serious but the Labour Party's | :01:11. | :01:12.
top spokeswoman on Scotland turned up, | :01:13. | :01:15.
I accept people don't have ` vote here, but they have a voice, | :01:16. | :01:22.
and in Scotland we are taken by the fact that people across Britain | :01:23. | :01:26.
are taking such an interest in the referendum, that they care about the | :01:27. | :01:29.
outcome of that, they actually don't want Scotland, by and large, | :01:30. | :01:33.
to leave the rest of Britain. That we all get benefit out of it. | :01:34. | :01:37.
And I think that's actually quite important to the Scots that | :01:38. | :01:39.
This has been a Scottish enclave since thd 30s | :01:40. | :01:44.
when workers from the Clyde came South to the Corby steel pl`nts | :01:45. | :01:48.
That's four generations of Scottish heritage. | :01:49. | :01:51.
I vote we should stay as one country, I am for thd union. | :01:52. | :01:54.
I think Scotland should be independent. | :01:55. | :01:55.
My mother was worn in Aberdeen, my father is English, so I am British. | :01:56. | :02:03.
In the end, 576 people cast their vote and the result was very clear. | :02:04. | :02:08.
The result may be a comfort to the no campaign | :02:09. | :02:24.
but there's no guarantee the verdict of Corby expats will be reflected in | :02:25. | :02:28.
Two months is a very long time in politics. | :02:29. | :02:38.
The BBC has learned that 23 officers and civilian staff with Suffolk | :02:39. | :02:42.
police have quit or been sacked in the last two years because | :02:43. | :02:44.
Figures released under the Freedom of Information Act reveal that | :02:45. | :02:49.
officers have been accused of theft, sexual assault and breaches | :02:50. | :02:52.
There's also been a 46% rise in complaints from the publhc. | :02:53. | :03:01.
Next, the questions hanging over the future of a small Suffolk sdaport. | :03:02. | :03:04.
Campaigners say the harbour at Southwold is being neglected | :03:05. | :03:09.
They believe that, legally, the town should own the harbour | :03:10. | :03:12.
But the town council says it doesn't want the responsibility. | :03:13. | :03:17.
As picture perfect as it can seem, Southwold harbour needs invdstment. | :03:18. | :03:22.
One side of the harbour wall is dilapidated. | :03:23. | :03:26.
The caravan park needs updating. Som claim the loc`l | :03:27. | :03:29.
District Council, Waveney, hs taking rents on this | :03:30. | :03:32.
The caravan site has, for many years, been treated as a cash cow. | :03:33. | :03:40.
I appreciate they have to fhnd funds to run their services, | :03:41. | :03:44.
but they also have to keep the harbour in good repair. | :03:45. | :03:47.
Some claim the District Council shouldn't own the land at all. | :03:48. | :03:50.
When local government was reformed in the 70s, they say it shotld have | :03:51. | :03:53.
Andrew has worked for years to get it back into local control. | :03:54. | :04:01.
We need to preserve assets such as this which underpins the tourist | :04:02. | :04:06.
industry, the fishing industry, and the very essence of the Coast | :04:07. | :04:10.
of Suffolk which is such a draw to millions of people every year. | :04:11. | :04:14.
Waveney District Council adlits that it relies on the income from | :04:15. | :04:16.
But Southwold Town Council say they can't afford the liability of taking | :04:17. | :04:25.
on the ownership or the legal costs that could come with it. | :04:26. | :04:28.
There is boat`building, there is fisherman there, and | :04:29. | :04:31.
if there was to be an acciddnt, it could possibly cost the town council | :04:32. | :04:35.
A six`week consultation on the future | :04:36. | :04:53.
The one thing that wasn't up for discussion, though, is | :04:54. | :04:58.
Well, we've had sharp showers and even hailstones today. | :04:59. | :05:08.
What else is in store? Here's Georgina Burnett. | :05:09. | :05:09.
We have hopefully seen the back of those showers | :05:10. | :05:13.
David Leadbetter took this picture of where two houses caught | :05:14. | :05:18.
And the sky over area Saint Edmunds was said certainly picturespue | :05:19. | :05:24.
So, tonight, we're looking at a much fresher night. | :05:25. | :05:30.
It will be largely cloudy, but temperatures down to | :05:31. | :05:32.
about 12 Celsius, so certainly more comfortable. | :05:33. | :05:35.
And a fine day to come tomorrow Plenty of sunny spells around. | :05:36. | :05:39.
As we head into the afternoon, a bit more in the way of cloud, | :05:40. | :05:43.
but it should still be quitd a nice end to the day with | :05:44. | :05:45.
a south`westerly breeze developing to not | :05:46. | :05:48.
Tuesday, patchy rain returns, and Wednesday, | :05:49. | :05:51.
probably some more showers as well, but those temperatures rise as we | :05:52. | :05:55.
That's all from Look East. I'll be back at 10:45pm | :05:56. | :05:59.
with the late news, depending on the football. | :06:00. | :06:08.
Hello, most places are enjoying a fine end to the weekend with some | :06:09. | :06:16.
sunshine. You might be firing up the barbecue ahead of the World Cup | :06:17. | :06:19.
final but we have seen torrential storms in East Anglia and they still | :06:20. | :06:23.
have showers. They will ease but showers in Eastern Scott and into | :06:24. | :06:29.
eastern England. Elsewhere, it is dry and clear and misty and places, | :06:30. | :06:34.
and cooler, sunspots in single figures. -- some areas. 20 of | :06:35. | :06:42.
sunshine first thing but the weather will change from the West. Northern | :06:43. | :06:46.
Ireland is first to get rain in the morning and that will head into | :06:47. | :06:50.
western Scotland, quite heavy and reaching parts of western England | :06:51. | :06:55.
and Wales in the afternoon. In the | :06:56. | :06:56. |
