Good evening. for the news where you are.

:00:11.:00:11.

Travellers parked illegally near the seafront at Walton-on-the-Naze

:00:12.:00:14.

in Essex could face court action to force them to move.

:00:15.:00:17.

Caravans have been on Bell House Meadow

:00:18.:00:18.

on Eastern Esplanade since Tuesday - with more arriving yesterday.

:00:19.:00:21.

A sunny start to the bank holiday at Walton-on-the-Naze;

:00:22.:00:30.

businesses hope good weather will bring day-trippers flocking.

:00:31.:00:32.

But not everyone here welcomes THESE visitors.

:00:33.:00:35.

The first caravans arrived on Tuesday -

:00:36.:00:36.

this morning there were 14, parked up on a council-owned

:00:37.:00:39.

The council describes it as an authorised encampment.

:00:40.:00:46.

I've just been on the site to speak to the travellers,

:00:47.:00:48.

none of them wanted to be interviewed on camera,

:00:49.:00:51.

but one of them told me the reason they're here is because it's close

:00:52.:00:54.

to Harwich where you can catch the ferry over to Holland,

:00:55.:00:57.

and he said six of the caravans will be leaving here today to catch

:00:58.:01:00.

They're on land that's owned by the council,

:01:01.:01:07.

They have been in there for showers, and paid for their showers

:01:08.:01:12.

like anybody else, and it seems that they've kept the site fairly tidy.

:01:13.:01:15.

We've been round this morning, handed out some black bags for them

:01:16.:01:18.

to put their rubbish in, and we will collect

:01:19.:01:20.

Also in Essex earlier this week, other travellers faced another

:01:21.:01:25.

The family that owns these plots, near Basildon, put mobile homes

:01:26.:01:29.

on them despite a court injunction banning it.

:01:30.:01:31.

They'll be sentenced at the High Court next month,

:01:32.:01:33.

after admitting being in contempt of court.

:01:34.:01:38.

Meanwhile, back in Walton, the first travellers to arrive

:01:39.:01:40.

here have already been served a direction to leave,

:01:41.:01:42.

giving them 24 hours to move on, but they ignored it.

:01:43.:01:45.

If they're still here next week, court action will be taken.

:01:46.:01:53.

The former owners of Bernard Matthews have been

:01:54.:01:55.

criticised for rejecting a buyout offer which would have

:01:56.:01:57.

Letters released by the Work and Pensions Committee show that

:01:58.:02:05.

Rutland Partners opted for a deal which gave them more money,

:02:06.:02:09.

but offloaded its pension responsibilities onto taxpayers.

:02:10.:02:10.

The pension scheme has 700 members, and a deficit of ?75 million.

:02:11.:02:18.

Suffolk Police have released a video of a carer stealing war medals, cash

:02:19.:02:21.

The incidents took place over a five-year period.

:02:22.:02:26.

Sonia Maisonave, from Essex Road in Lowestoft, has been

:02:27.:02:28.

Manor Court Homecare says she betrayed the trust of everyone.

:02:29.:02:36.

A man has been charged with the rape, kidnapping

:02:37.:02:40.

and imprisonment of a woman in Luton.

:02:41.:02:42.

Police were called to a property in Putteridge Road on Wednesday,

:02:43.:02:45.

after concerns were raised about a woman's safety.

:02:46.:02:47.

Joel Nestor, who's 39 and from Tottenham,

:02:48.:02:49.

Four derelict houses have been completely destroyed

:02:50.:02:56.

Local councillors in the area are now calling for landowners

:02:57.:03:04.

with empty properties to do more to secure them.

:03:05.:03:06.

In the early hours of this morning, four derelict properties in Southend

:03:07.:03:10.

An aerial platform was used by firefighters to put out

:03:11.:03:17.

This morning, the full scale of the damage could be seen.

:03:18.:03:25.

The cause is believed to have been a small deliberate fire in one

:03:26.:03:28.

This isn't the first time these derelict

:03:29.:03:30.

Filmed last year, locals tell me that these buildings were often

:03:31.:03:36.

broken into by squatters in the area.

:03:37.:03:39.

Local councillors say that property owners should do more

:03:40.:03:42.

If necessary, boarding it up and charging the developer the cost

:03:43.:03:54.

of making it secure - that way round, we get developers

:03:55.:04:00.

taking proper action against their properties

:04:01.:04:02.

and their planning permissions that they've got, rather than leaving

:04:03.:04:08.

them in a derelict site and causing all sorts of problems.

:04:09.:04:11.

Police are now investigating, to work out exactly what happened.

:04:12.:04:19.

A new centre for creative businesses in Northampton has

:04:20.:04:21.

The Vulcan Works was an iron foundry which manufactured equipment

:04:22.:04:24.

Councillors have approved plans for it to be converted into a centre

:04:25.:04:33.

to house new businesses linked to the arts and creative industries.

:04:34.:04:36.

A fly-on-the wall documentary series which follows

:04:37.:04:38.

Bedfordshire Police has been nominated for a Bafta award.

:04:39.:04:42.

24 Hours In Police Custody has been nominated for the prestigious awards

:04:43.:04:44.

The programme follows the work carried out by officers

:04:45.:04:49.

and staff across a range of investigations and incidents.

:04:50.:04:57.

On to football now, and there's been a full Good Friday programme

:04:58.:05:00.

In the Championship, Norwich lost 3-1 at home to playoff

:05:01.:05:03.

hopefuls Fulham despite them only having ten men, Cameron Jerome

:05:04.:05:06.

In League One, Southend scored 4 away to Chesterfield,

:05:07.:05:14.

leaving them just a point away from the play-off places.

:05:15.:05:17.

Elsewhere, MK Dons failed to win against Scunthorpe,

:05:18.:05:20.

and Peterborough stay mid-table after losing at home to Fleetwood.

:05:21.:05:24.

Colchester did well to draw against top of the table Doncaster.

:05:25.:05:32.

Grimsby got two past Cambridge, Brad Halliday grabbing a late

:05:33.:05:34.

Luton Town remain fourth in the table after they drew

:05:35.:05:38.

at home to Leyton Orient, and it was the second

:05:39.:05:40.

defeat in a week for Stevenage against Morecambe.

:05:41.:05:42.

Ipswich Town play later this evening; the Blues are

:05:43.:05:45.

After today's other games they're just six points

:05:46.:05:48.

They have a tough match against title-chasers

:05:49.:05:55.

We still need points, I know it's a tough ask

:05:56.:06:01.

for the teams below us, and they'll be playing

:06:02.:06:03.

of course at three o'clock, some of them before us,

:06:04.:06:06.

but we want to do it ourselves, not rely on anybody else.

:06:07.:06:08.

And we've got an opportunity this weekend.

:06:09.:06:13.

We'll bring you a full round-up of the goals in tomorrow's bulletin.

:06:14.:06:16.

It's not been a bad start to the bank holiday weather-wise -

:06:17.:06:19.

Sara is here with the weather for the Easter weekend.

:06:20.:06:24.

Things are going slightly downhill at the moment, and we've had a lot

:06:25.:06:30.

of dry weather around today but quite a lot of cloud as well. There

:06:31.:06:35.

were some breaks at times when it doesn't fill -- didn't feel too bad,

:06:36.:06:41.

but this rain add to the west and North West, heading our way at the

:06:42.:06:46.

moment courtesy of a frontal system. So it turns more unsettled in the

:06:47.:06:51.

coming hours, bits and pieces of rain thinning and breaking, and

:06:52.:06:55.

behind it, they called north-westerly wind for tomorrow.

:06:56.:06:58.

But it's through this evening that rain comes through, is

:06:59.:07:00.

clearing away by breakfast tomorrow clearing away by breakfast tomorrow

:07:01.:07:05.

morning, the temperature is holding up in high single figures. Any last

:07:06.:07:09.

bit of cloud clears away and we get bit of cloud clears away and we get

:07:10.:07:14.

sunshine coming through, but that is tempered by this north-westerly

:07:15.:07:17.

wind. If you can get away from the wind and shelter a bit in the

:07:18.:07:22.

sunshine, not too bad at 13 or 14 degrees but it will be cool in that

:07:23.:07:26.

win. It's the best day though of the weekend, a change for Easter itself.

:07:27.:07:35.

-- Easter Sunday. It looks like we will start dry, but pretty chilly

:07:36.:07:41.

for your Easter Sunday, and then we have got rain spreading in. So the

:07:42.:07:45.

headlines for the coming day, we've got rain through this evening and

:07:46.:07:49.

then a cool wind for tomorrow, but there will be bright weather and

:07:50.:07:52.

rain further east -- rain for Sunday.

:07:53.:07:54.

That's all for now - I'll be back with the late news

:07:55.:07:57.

tonight at tweny past ten and our bulletin tomorrow

:07:58.:07:59.

To think that this time last weekend, temperatures were in the

:08:00.:08:17.

20s. They got up to 25.5. Much cooler across the country this

:08:18.:08:23.

weekend. And this headline is true for the weather next week. That cool

:08:24.:08:26.

air stream from the north will persist. The mild air tries to get

:08:27.:08:31.

in, but never really wins. What have we got for the rest of today? The

:08:32.:08:36.

rain we had across Wales earlier will move southwards, but once the

:08:37.:08:40.
