Travellers parked illegally near the seafront at Walton-on-the-Naze

in Essex could face court action to force them to move.

Caravans have been on Bell House Meadow

on Eastern Esplanade since Tuesday - with more arriving yesterday.

A sunny start to the bank holiday at Walton-on-the-Naze;

businesses hope good weather will bring day-trippers flocking.

But not everyone here welcomes THESE visitors.

The first caravans arrived on Tuesday -

this morning there were 14, parked up on a council-owned

The council describes it as an authorised encampment.

I've just been on the site to speak to the travellers,

none of them wanted to be interviewed on camera,

but one of them told me the reason they're here is because it's close

to Harwich where you can catch the ferry over to Holland,

and he said six of the caravans will be leaving here today to catch

They're on land that's owned by the council,

They have been in there for showers, and paid for their showers

like anybody else, and it seems that they've kept the site fairly tidy.

We've been round this morning, handed out some black bags for them

to put their rubbish in, and we will collect

Also in Essex earlier this week, other travellers faced another

The family that owns these plots, near Basildon, put mobile homes

on them despite a court injunction banning it.

They'll be sentenced at the High Court next month,

after admitting being in contempt of court.

Meanwhile, back in Walton, the first travellers to arrive

here have already been served a direction to leave,

giving them 24 hours to move on, but they ignored it.

If they're still here next week, court action will be taken.

It's not been a bad start to the bank holiday weather-wise -

Sara is here with the weather for the Easter weekend.

Things are going slightly downhill at the moment, and we've had a lot

of dry weather around today but quite a lot of cloud as well. There

were some breaks at times when it doesn't fill -- didn't feel too bad,

but this rain add to the west and North West, heading our way at the

moment courtesy of a frontal system. So it turns more unsettled in the

coming hours, bits and pieces of rain thinning and breaking, and

behind it, they called north-westerly wind for tomorrow.

But it's through this evening that rain comes through, is

morning, the temperature is holding up in high single figures. Any last
