First - a major police investigation is under way after violence flared

A fight involving around 20 people broke out in Brentwood High Street.

A car then struck three people, leaving one with serious injuries.

An eyewitness described it as terrifying.

Today, police were carrying out interviews after a hit and run

incident outside the Sugar Hut nightclub in Brentwood.

It happened around 3am this morning when officers were called

to a disturbance outside the venue following a fight which was

happening in the street, involving a group of around 20 people.

I don't really know what started the fighting.

The fight broke out which escalated to about 50

or 60 people at one time. Two or three people looked

as if they were quite badly hurt during that time.

I phoned the police and the ambulance.

I saw one guy that went down, it looked like he was unconscious

and got dragged off the street. There was another guy that

went down, he looked like he was quite seriously hurt.

He stayed down for quite some minutes until the

paramedics got there. Then the police arrived.

I was probably watching the fight for about 15 minutes.

Essex Police say two men and one woman were taken to hospital.

One with serious injuries after being struck by a blue Audi.

Their condition is believed not to be life-threatening.

Police are now appealing to anyone who witnessed or filmed the incident

on their mobiles to get in contact by calling 101.

A stretch of the Grand Union canal in Northamptonshire has been closed

A conservation project on the Norfolk-Suffolk border

is to receive half a million pounds of lottery money.

It's to help save 20 rare species of animal and plant life,

including the stone curlew and a tiny plant -

They're all threatened with extinction at The Brecks.

It goes beyond just the plants of the Brecks, we are talking

about a a suite of invertebrate species, so insects, lovely moths,

and a particular little wasp that we are looking at.

Hello, good evening. Lots of sunshine around today

although it did turn a bit cloudier through the afternoon.

And there will be more sunshine on offer next week.

It's also looking mostly dry apart from perhaps a few spots of light

rain and drizzle on Tuesday and gardeners take note,

there will be some chilly nights with possibly a touch of frost

in the more rural prone spots at times.

Overnight, it will stay dry, there will be some

patchy mist forming. Also some low cloud

into tomorrow morning. A particularly chilly start.

The mist, the low cloud will gradually burn back

to the coast through the morning, lots of blue sky and sunshine

developing and a dry and fine day. Sunny spells into the afternoon

with a bit more cloud around. Top temperatures 15 or 16 degrees.

But towards coastal areas, it will be a bit cooler,

it could stay quite murky here for much of the day

and there could even be a bit of sea fog.

Watch out for the thickening clouds and patchy rain on Tuesday,

after that, it stays bright but it will feel a bit cooler.

It was a lovely second part to the weekend for most parts of the UK,

lots of sunshine, more cloud to the east but in the last few hours it

started to melt away and the process will continue, most places seeing

lengthy clear spells overnight and much like last night it will turn a

bit chilly. We might see mist and fog, like winds, more of a breeze in

the north and west, cloud and patchy rain approaching the Western Isles
