Police searching for missing Corrie Mckeague have

extended their operation at the Milton landfill

site in Cambridgeshire to the weekend for the first time.

It's designed to keep the operation on schedule.

Mousumi Bakshi reports.

They are a devoted couple, devoted to one another

and determined to find out just what happened to Martin's son Corrie

as the search for the missing airman at a nearby landfill

enters the sixth week.

I have watched the excavator, the Jones Brothers operators that

are doing it, it is really done with utter care.

It is just something I have not seen before.

If Corrie is here then I am sure these guys are going to find him.

Corrie's last known movements were captured on CCTV during a night

out in Bury St Edmunds last September.

Moments after these images were taken it is believed

the 23-year-old ended up in a commercial bin

which was later emptied at this landfill near Cambridge.

But the search only began last month after the waste management company

revealed the bin's contents were heavy enough to carry a body.

It is a sunny day here in Milton but just yards from where I am

standing up to 12 specialist officers in fully protected

bodysuits are sifting through up to 80 to 90 tonnes

of material every day.

Many more are working on the investigation.

The work is detailed and exhaustive.

Anything to link the site with Corrie Mckeague.

That is because the investigation into what happened to the RAF

Honington gunner is still a missing persons inquiry.

The expectation is that a body will be found but Corrie's father

is not ruling anything out.

Corrie had his phone and his keys, his wallet.

Because we do not know what has happened to Corrie,

there possibly could be a weapon, there could be anything.

We just do not know.

The landfill search for Corrie continues and is likely

to continue for another month.

Whether the family will get the answers they so desperately

need remains to be seen.

There have been delays on a busy stretch of the A11 after fire

at a petrol station.

The road was closed in both directions at the Barton Mills

roundabout in Suffolk after the blaze started at the Esso

garage just before 7am.

A minute's silence has been held to remember a teenager

who died in a road crash.

Kyle Warren died along with friends Dominic O'Neill

and Billy Hines in the incident in Norfolk on Wednesday.

He was remembered ahead of the Junior Banger British

Championship race at King's Lynn which he once competed in.

Football, and an extraordinary afternoon for Norwich City

in the Championship.

The Canaries thrashed Reading 7-1.

All but one of the goals were scored in the first half with Norwich 5-0

up after just 35 minutes.

Wes Hoolahan and Alex Pritchard both scored twice.

Ipswich lost 3-1 at Fulham.

In League One, not a single win for our sides.

Southend have dropped out of the play-off zone

after a 2-1 defeat at Charlton.

Peterborough lost at bottom club Coventry 1-0 while Northampton Town

were beaten by leaders Sheffield United 2-1,

a result which confirms the Blades promotion.

MK Dons were seconds away from winning at Swindon but conceded

a 90th minute equaliser.

In Two, Luton are up to fourth after winning 1-0 at Barnet.

Big wins for Cambridge and Colchester, who have closed

the gap on the play-offs to just two points.

Cambridge beat Leyton Orient 3-0 while Colchester

thumped Stevenage 4-0.

Boro drop to fifth.

In Rugby Union, Northampton are in action tomorrow against Wasps

but Bedford did play, losing their last match

of the season at Goldington Road, 43-27, to Yorkshire Carnegie,

in the Championship.

It's been a sunny day today so let's get the latest from Sara Thornton.

I am sure you do not need me to tell you that it has been a beautiful

day across the region.

After we got rid of some early mist and fog that is.

It turned out to be just beautiful.

Plenty of sunshine and feeling pleasantly warm

in that spring sunshine.

More on the cards for tomorrow, in fact I fancy tomorrow

we could get a couple of degrees warmer than we were today.

That does not mean we are impervious to a chilly night tonight.

We have fairly light winds across the region, clear skies.

We are talking about high single figures in our towns and mid single

figures in countryside spots.

Then a beautiful start tomorrow, lots of sunshine across the region,

a warm southerly wind wafting up the warm air

towards us and the best of it, a top temperature inland of 22,

possibly 23 Celsius.

Takes us into the low to mid 70s Fahrenheit.

Make the most of it if you enjoy it because it is all change on Monday.

We drop by 10 degrees, cooler and cloudier.
