Hull and East Yorkshire's new maternity unit opens, | :00:00. | :00:08.
giving more choice to women, but it's only thanks | :00:09. | :00:10.
A midwife led unit was promised almost six years ago and it's only | :00:11. | :00:23.
because a private funding that this has been able to be built now. | :00:24. | :00:28.
Beautiful surroundings, relaxed surroundings, birthing pools in each | :00:29. | :00:29.
room. A Lincolnshire woman | :00:30. | :00:31.
missing for two weeks. Free parking could be scrapped | :00:32. | :00:33.
in some local towns to stop And don't forget to join me for the | :00:34. | :00:38.
weather forecast for the week. Women in Hull and East Yorkshire | :00:39. | :00:54.
are finally being given the chance to give birth in a unit lead | :00:55. | :00:56.
by midwives, without doctors. It's supposed to be an option | :00:57. | :00:59.
across England, but for the last six years there has been no such centre | :01:00. | :01:02.
in the Hull area. And it's only happened now | :01:03. | :01:05.
thanks to a donation of hundreds of thousands pounds | :01:06. | :01:07.
from a local woman. This report by Kate Sweeting has | :01:08. | :01:09.
some flash photography. It might look like a hotel, | :01:10. | :01:22.
but this is Hull's long awaited midwife led unit, | :01:23. | :01:24.
a place where women can have their babies safely with little | :01:25. | :01:26.
or no medical intervention. The new centre offers a home from | :01:27. | :01:41.
surroundings, relaxed surroundings, surroundings, relaxed surroundings, | :01:42. | :01:45.
birthing pools in each room and a hotel like feel to the environment | :01:46. | :01:50.
will provide a relaxing environment for the women. | :01:51. | :01:57.
The centre is named after Fatima Allam, | :01:58. | :01:58.
whife of Hull City owner Dr Assem Allam, who funded most | :01:59. | :02:01.
For some mums, the unit opened just too late, | :02:02. | :02:04.
but all of those I spoke say they'd want to use it. | :02:05. | :02:14.
The Trust then told Look North is would open in 2014, | :02:15. | :02:17.
It was another three years before it actually opened. | :02:18. | :02:25.
Hospital trusts have to prioritise their investments and there are so | :02:26. | :02:30.
many service pressures. It is not saying this is not important that | :02:31. | :02:33.
when you judge it against other things, it has to be prioritised. We | :02:34. | :02:39.
are very fortunate with the support that has enabled us to do this. | :02:40. | :02:44.
Without the support, could this have happened? I don't think he could | :02:45. | :02:51.
have happened as soon as it happened. | :02:52. | :03:01.
For some mums, the unit opened just too late, | :03:02. | :03:03.
but all of those I spoke say they'd want to use it. | :03:04. | :03:08.
I really wanted to have a homebirth. But that have been an easy medium | :03:09. | :03:18.
between what I could have had. I was desperate to use the facilities but | :03:19. | :03:23.
she was born a little too early. He would not do your everyday things in | :03:24. | :03:26.
front of doctors and midwives. They are doing a great job and they are | :03:27. | :03:30.
there for you. But you need your own time and your own privacy and it is | :03:31. | :03:36.
just about mums and babies, right -- and Mark | :03:37. | :03:39.
The unit is only available to women at low | :03:40. | :03:41.
risk of complictations, but for those needing medical | :03:42. | :03:43.
It's hoped the new unit will give women more | :03:44. | :03:46.
choice about where and how they have their babies. | :03:47. | :03:51.
Two bodies have been found at the house of a missing | :03:52. | :03:54.
Bernice Williams was last seen more than two weeks ago. | :03:55. | :03:58.
Today police said they were linking the missing person investigation | :03:59. | :04:00.
to the discovery of the bodies at her house in the small village | :04:01. | :04:04.
Our correspondent, Leanne Brown, is here. | :04:05. | :04:06.
Leanne, what are police saying tonight? | :04:07. | :04:15.
I'll take you back to the beginning of this story. | :04:16. | :04:18.
On 25th March, police put out an apeal to try and find | :04:19. | :04:21.
50-year-old Bernice Williams who had gone missing. | :04:22. | :04:22.
She was a very active member of the community. | :04:23. | :04:29.
It's understood she was a a churchwarden at Lutton St | :04:30. | :04:32.
Nicholas Parish Church and a primary school teacher | :04:33. | :04:34.
at Sutton Bridge Westmere Primary School. | :04:35. | :04:40.
In fact, many of her pupils posted messages on social media hoping | :04:41. | :04:43.
that she would be found safe and well. | :04:44. | :04:47.
But today we got the news that two bodies had been found, | :04:48. | :04:50.
that of a man and woman, in the house believed | :04:51. | :04:52.
They were discovered at the weekend and although police havent yet | :04:53. | :04:59.
revealed their identities they are linking the two cases | :05:00. | :05:01.
and that missing persons appeal has now been taken down | :05:02. | :05:04.
At the moment they are still investigating the cause of death | :05:05. | :05:18.
and the circumstances surrounding the incident. | :05:19. | :05:19.
But they say at this stage they are not looking for anyone else | :05:20. | :05:22.
But of course anyone with information should contact them. | :05:23. | :05:40.
Car parking charges in some Lincolnshire market towns could be | :05:41. | :05:43.
reintroduced after just a year of free parking. | :05:44. | :05:44.
East Lindsey District Council says some people are staying too long | :05:45. | :05:47.
It wants to reintroduce charges for staying more than a few | :05:48. | :05:51.
visitors can leave their cars here all day for free while they popped | :05:52. | :06:07.
to the shops but the council says too many are taking advantage of | :06:08. | :06:12.
that. People visiting or working in the town are parking in the car park | :06:13. | :06:18.
all day. We really want to use car parking as a mechanism to help drive | :06:19. | :06:24.
the economy of the town. Parking charges were introduced in 2013 but | :06:25. | :06:29.
traders say it put off shoppers and they were scrapped in April last | :06:30. | :06:33.
year. Now the council is considering a range of changes to parking, | :06:34. | :06:37.
including bringing in charges after one or two hours. But businesses say | :06:38. | :06:46.
the free parking has brought in more customers and they are concerned | :06:47. | :06:51.
about the change. We found it really beneficial because of footfall | :06:52. | :06:55.
through the shop, convenience. The two hours, yes, it is not bad, but I | :06:56. | :07:00.
think the charge does tend to put people off if they are going to | :07:01. | :07:04.
perhaps meet friends or spend more time in the village. And there's a | :07:05. | :07:08.
mixed reaction from those that use the car park. They want to make up | :07:09. | :07:13.
their minds. It was not that long ago they were giving free time and | :07:14. | :07:19.
charging for the rest of the time and the car park was nearly empty. | :07:20. | :07:28.
Actually two hours would have done. Two hours, yes, I can do quite a lot | :07:29. | :07:32.
in two hours but it would be nice if we could have just a little more. If | :07:33. | :07:35.
approved, the new charges could be in place by the end of May but the | :07:36. | :07:40.
council says they would review them in a year's time to see what effect | :07:41. | :07:41.
they have had. The father of Ryan Smith, | :07:42. | :07:45.
who suffered head injuries in a bike crash, has | :07:46. | :07:47.
received his British Empire Medal after his fundraising | :07:48. | :07:50.
efforts and campaigning. Ryan from Chapel St Leonards | :07:51. | :07:51.
was 16when he suffered a brain injury after colliding | :07:52. | :07:55.
with a van in 2013. His father Mark has campaigned | :07:56. | :07:56.
for a law to force cyclists to wear Mark received the award | :07:57. | :07:59.
earlier this evening. We have visited over 30,000 children | :08:00. | :08:19.
in schools and colleges and there is more children out there now thanks | :08:20. | :08:23.
to Ryan's story protecting their heads that little bit more. | :08:24. | :08:32.
Certainly with what we've achieved over the last three years, we know | :08:33. | :08:33.
we've made a difference. Grimsby Town Football Club have | :08:34. | :08:36.
sacked their manager. Marcus Bignot has been at the club | :08:37. | :08:38.
for six months and has guided the Mariners to a mid table position | :08:39. | :08:41.
in League Two. Almost 2,000 daffodils made entirely | :08:42. | :08:46.
of Lego bricks have been The display in the newly created | :08:47. | :08:48.
King Edward Square is part of the City of Culture year | :08:49. | :08:52.
to celebrate Easter. The flowers will remain in place | :08:53. | :08:54.
until the 18th April. They have sprung up overnight. They | :08:55. | :09:11.
won't need watering. I wonder how many man-hours went into making | :09:12. | :09:17.
them. There's lots of Lego pieces put together to make it like a | :09:18. | :09:23.
proper daffodil. Really nice, really good idea. We haven't got one big | :09:24. | :09:29.
weekend, so we thought we would come and see the daffodils. | :09:30. | :09:39.
50,000 tickets were available for the big weekend event at the end of | :09:40. | :09:52.
May. Tickets went on sale this morning. Let's get the forecast. | :09:53. | :09:58.
Some weak weather fronts to come this week but very little if any | :09:59. | :10:06.
rain to come. Tomorrow looks dry and bright and breezy. That is one of | :10:07. | :10:10.
the week whether France on Wednesday night bringing patchy rain in places | :10:11. | :10:15.
but really trivial amounts of rain. And as I say, many of us will stay | :10:16. | :10:21.
fine. Some showers this evening but it is going to be fine for the rest | :10:22. | :10:25.
of the night. Lowest temperatures around five in towns and cities. | :10:26. | :10:33.
Tomorrow, a windy day. Nevertheless, there should be some sunshine. Cloud | :10:34. | :10:39.
amounts will build at times. Top temperatures around 13, possibly 14 | :10:40. | :10:43.
degrees. A lot of dry weather to come. That is the forecast. | :10:44. | :10:50.
But is it. Thank you for watching. Good night. | :10:51. | :11:02.
Good evening. Let's cut to the chase the first big holiday weekend of the | :11:03. | :11:15.
year is on the horizon and if you consider last weekend as a taster | :11:16. | :11:19.
for the summer, this weekend is not looking too bad. It will be a bit | :11:20. | :11:23.
cooler, temperatures this week and closer to where they should be at | :11:24. | :11:27.
this time of the year thanks to the north-west breed and the reason for | :11:28. | :11:32.
that, if we look at the jet stream, coming across the Atlantic pushing | :11:33. | :11:36.
from north to south -- north-west breeze. It separates the high | :11:37. | :11:42.
pressure and low price and it allows the northerly airflow to develop. | :11:43. | :11:44. |
