Visitors to the UK City of Culture said they were disappointed to find | :00:39. | :00:43.
places like the Maritime Museum and the Ferens Art Gallery shut. | :00:44. | :00:47.
They will be able to see the attractions for the rest | :00:48. | :00:49.
of the Easter weekend, but the council says | :00:50. | :00:51.
it is likely to open them on Good Friday from next year. | :00:52. | :00:54.
In Hull, the UK City of Culture, there is plenty to see and do. | :00:55. | :01:00.
But for those wanting to visit the museums and art gallery today, | :01:01. | :01:03.
Obviously I work full-time and I've come today to see the museums, | :01:04. | :01:08.
thought I'll take in Hull City of Culture on a bank holiday | :01:09. | :01:11.
We were expecting to go to the Maritime Museum and other | :01:12. | :01:15.
museums in Hull at the present time so, yes, we were disappointed | :01:16. | :01:19.
Yeah, it was really a shame, I was hoping to go in | :01:20. | :01:25.
Hull City Council says that Hull's museums and art gallery are closed | :01:26. | :01:30.
every Good Friday but they'll reopen tomorrow for the rest | :01:31. | :01:32.
In fact, they're open 360 days a year and for longer | :01:33. | :01:38.
But it's admitted that having them closed today was a mistake. | :01:39. | :01:45.
Obviously it's Good Friday today and they're shut | :01:46. | :01:46.
so probably we got that wrong, we need to look at | :01:47. | :01:49.
But I think the thinking was that probably there's both rugby | :01:50. | :01:53.
teams are at home today, there's lots of other things going | :01:54. | :01:56.
But what fantastic news that people were so desperate | :01:57. | :02:00.
to use our cultural facilities so we'll learn the lesson and we'll | :02:01. | :02:03.
So while families still have the rest of Easter to enjoy the city's | :02:04. | :02:08.
attractions, many feel let down to have a wasted trip today. | :02:09. | :02:12.
Staff at one of Lincoln's oldest shops say they feel | :02:13. | :02:19.
like they are grieving as the store prepares to close for good. | :02:20. | :02:23.
Ruddocks has been run by the same family | :02:24. | :02:25.
It'll shut it's doors for good this weekend blaming poor trade because | :02:26. | :02:57.
of Brexit, internet shopping and a lack of parking. | :02:58. | :02:58.
It's been in the same place on the high street | :02:59. | :02:58.
A music festival is taking place in Hull next month which celebrates | :02:59. | :03:03.
The two countries were at loggerheads over fishing | :03:04. | :03:03.
rights for many years, in a dispute known as the Cod Wars. | :03:04. | :03:04.
But they also have a positive shared history. | :03:05. | :03:04.
Kofi Smiles has been to Iceland to find out more. | :03:05. | :03:04.
Home of fjords, trolls and an unexpectedly good football team. | :03:05. | :03:06.
But what has it got to with Hull, the UK City of Culture? | :03:07. | :03:09.
Well, for one thing, Reykjavik is one of Hull's sister cities. | :03:10. | :03:13.
Through the fishing industry, they've traded with each | :03:14. | :03:15.
other for 700 years, sometimes peacefully, sometimes | :03:16. | :03:18.
They were both listed in the world's top ten cities to visit | :03:19. | :03:24.
It's even said that the cobblestones in Hull's old town were brought | :03:25. | :03:29.
But there's cultural links too and that's what I'm here for. | :03:30. | :03:34.
Voyage by Steinunn Thorarinsdottir leads proudly out to sea | :03:35. | :03:38.
What many people don't realise though is that it has a sister | :03:39. | :03:43.
statue 1,000 miles away in Vik, Iceland. | :03:44. | :03:46.
North Atlantic Flux, one of the major music festivals | :03:47. | :03:50.
of the City of Culture programme will celebrate Hull's | :03:51. | :03:52.
I think you're going to be seeing a good mixture of what Hull has | :03:53. | :04:03.
to offer but also things from the North Atlantic, you know, | :04:04. | :04:09.
it's quite Scandinavian and then just some of my favourite things | :04:10. | :04:12.
from around Britain because Britain has been instrumental, | :04:13. | :04:16.
pun intended, I guess, in forming my musical DNA | :04:17. | :04:21.
and my musical vocabulary throughout my life so it's a very, | :04:22. | :04:24.
The sea separates us but it also gives us this shared history | :04:25. | :04:31.
and this natural understanding of each other's heritage. | :04:32. | :04:34.
Historically, men from both cities would trawl for fish in these waters | :04:35. | :04:39.
which led to overfishing and a breakdown in relations | :04:40. | :04:42.
But now through music and art, there's a friendship that | :04:43. | :04:46.
thrives on so many levels, that's what John Grant | :04:47. | :04:49.
and his friends will be celebrating in Hull at North Atlantic Flux. | :04:50. | :04:59.
And the second episode is on the BBC News Channel at 2:30pm. | :05:00. | :05:04.
And now a look at the weather forecast with Paul Mooney. | :05:05. | :05:07.
Well, any showers will tend to die away as we head through the night. | :05:08. | :05:11.
Long, clear spells developing, the winds a bit lighter, as well. | :05:12. | :05:14.
Things turning fairly chilly, temperatures down | :05:15. | :05:15.
A chilly start tomorrow and then it's a day of sunshine and showers. | :05:16. | :05:20.
I think most places will hang onto some decent sunny spells, | :05:21. | :05:23.
just the odd shower coming through on that brisk, | :05:24. | :05:25.
That wind will make it feel quite cool as temperatures peak | :05:26. | :05:35.
That's the way it's looking for tomorrow after another cold | :05:36. | :05:40.
Easter Sunday looks like a cloudy one with outbreaks of rain | :05:41. | :05:42.
for many of us and a cool north to northwesterly breeze as well. | :05:43. | :05:43.
So that's the way it's looking as we head through the Easter weekend. | :05:44. | :05:45.
I'll leave you with the summary for tomorrow and the national | :05:46. | :05:48.
That is all from Look North we are back tomorrow at 6:20pm. Goodbye for | :05:49. | :05:57.
now. Good evening. I don't think | :05:58. | :06:11.
everybody was a happy bunny today with the weather. We had some rain. | :06:12. | :06:14.
Some of it was | :06:15. | :06:16. |
