Good evening and welcome to Hull, where the city is preparing

to celebrate becoming the UK City of Culture.

In just over an hour, there will be a huge fireworks

display from the middle of the Humber.

Already parts of the city have been turned into a light show,

as Hull begins its year in the spotlight.

A look back at a century of Hull's history opened its reign

as UK City of Culture - light and sound recreating

moments like the Blitz, the annual Hull Fair

and Hull City's Premier League promotion.

Kicking off tonight's party is a DJ used to a smaller crowd.

Linda Levantiz is the landlady at Hull's Bonny Boat pub,

but tonight, she will use her two iPods to entertain 25,000 people

I'm not a DJ, I just play music in the pub and, hopefully,

If not, I'll just play what they can sing along to,

I am with one of the team he has been preparing for the year of

events, Sam Hunt. How pleased are you at how things have started? It

is fantastic, isn't it? I have never seen the time so busy. The made in

the whole event we have, it means people can come and go on any day of

the week that they want. That is the week that they want. That is

just the start. It is absolutely packed in there. What will this do

for all, what promises can you make of what Hull would look like at the

end of the EU? I will not make any promises, but this idea if you look

behind us we have a wind turbine factory just about to start

exporting. We have 25,000 people coming to enjoy the fireworks

display, tens of thousands -- tends about these people just in the

centre using the bars and restaurants. Hull is on the up. How

excited are you at to three years of planning that it is finally here? I

am excited about that, but this is just the first thing on the first

date, we have another 364 of these things to go through. This is

absolutely just the beginning. It is just over an hour until the

fireworks. If you look over my shoulder and you can see some of the

25,000 people who were lucky enough to get tickets for this evening's

show. Thousands of people are expected

here on the banks of the Humber tonight for the fireworks,

which start in just over an hour. Many of the 25,000 ticket holders

are already here and have been picking the best to watch the show

from. It is a great opportunity for the people who were born in the city

to celebrate the city that they were born into. How do you feel about

tonight, Tony? Intensely proud. Hull has had its critics over the years

but when you see the that have been made around the time, it is totally

wonderful. You have come much further, come to revisit the city do

were born in. That's right, indeed. What did you make of the changes to

hold? Totally amazed. I think the pavements in all of the artworks are

absolutely beautiful and I am looking forward to all of the

exciting things that will be happening. Excited for the

2017, the weather has been fairly mixed, wet and cloudy in the South,

colder but clearer further north. This was taken in County Down

earlier in the day, plenty of sunshine there, but with clear skies

by day, a cold nights tonight. That will fill the south across the

country, the cloud and rain clearing through the early hours of Monday

morning across that area. This is how it is looking first thing, cold

and frosty, colder than this in the countryside, still some wintry

showers for northern Scotland into the north-east of England, so a

chance of icy stretches first thing on untreated surfaces. Through the

day, Monday is looking quite decent, mostly dry with wintry sunshine and

light winds, still breezy towards the north and north-east with a few

showers falling asleep damp snow over high ground. Temperatures
