Hello and welcome to Thursday's Look North. | :00:00. | :00:00.
Tonight: We're sorry and we'll learn from our mistakes . | :00:00. | :00:08.
The apology from Cleveland's Chief Constable over | :00:09. | :00:09.
We should not have used those powers to get details from journalists | :00:10. | :00:16.
He died after a leg fracture went unnoticed. | :00:17. | :00:23.
Now a hospital has changed its x-ray procedures. | :00:24. | :00:27.
If it's not an accident or an emergency, please | :00:28. | :00:29.
The message from health bosses after thousands turn up at casualty | :00:30. | :00:34.
And the bid to bring more celebrity A-listers | :00:35. | :00:41.
In football - more players on the move in the January transfer window. | :00:42. | :00:49.
And after losing to the top two over the holidays, | :00:50. | :00:51.
there's another tough game ahead for Newcastle Falcons. | :00:52. | :01:07.
The Chief Constable of Cleveland Police issued a public | :01:08. | :01:10.
It came after his force admitted unlawfully using anti-terror powers | :01:11. | :01:16.
to secretly monitor people's private phone records. | :01:17. | :01:20.
This afternoon, Iain Spittal said the force would | :01:21. | :01:23.
learn from its mistakes and promised major changes. | :01:24. | :01:27.
Mr Spittal apologised to the people whose phones were monitored. | :01:28. | :01:31.
He said every surveillance request involving phone data from the last | :01:32. | :01:34.
And he also promised to get rid of the force's professional | :01:35. | :01:39.
standards department after a series of scandals. | :01:40. | :01:43.
The force had already admitted acting unlawfully | :01:44. | :01:49.
by using legislation reserved for serious crime to monitor | :01:50. | :01:53.
the phone records of journalists and solicitors in 2012 to see | :01:54. | :01:56.
We should not have used those powers, we should not have used | :01:57. | :02:04.
those powers to get details from journalists so it's | :02:05. | :02:06.
Last month, at a tribunal in London, two former Cleveland Police officers | :02:07. | :02:12.
claimed their private phone records had also been secretly monitored | :02:13. | :02:16.
after they challenged misconduct at the force. | :02:17. | :02:20.
The Professional Standards Department set their stall out | :02:21. | :02:22.
and went out to get me, which was an utter disgrace. | :02:23. | :02:25.
I honestly think they were trying to stitch me up. | :02:26. | :02:28.
I think they were using any means, unlawful or otherwise, | :02:29. | :02:33.
and mainly otherwise, to stitch me up. | :02:34. | :02:36.
Over a four-month period in 2012, the Investigatory Powers Tribunal | :02:37. | :02:39.
in London heard Cleveland Police monitored over a million | :02:40. | :02:42.
minutes of telephone data from just six people. | :02:43. | :02:46.
Some of your police officers broke the law, surely they should now face | :02:47. | :02:49.
There is a subtle difference between unlawful and breaking the law. | :02:50. | :02:55.
What the IPT have said is that the use of the power was unlawful. | :02:56. | :02:59.
That does not necessarily lead to a criminal offence being committed. | :03:00. | :03:03.
If criminal offences have been committed then we will deal | :03:04. | :03:05.
Cleveland's Crime Commissioner said the force would learn | :03:06. | :03:10.
from its mistakes, but even he accepts we have been here before. | :03:11. | :03:15.
We've had police officers sacked, sent to prison, racism rows, | :03:16. | :03:17.
corruption scandals, now police officers secretly | :03:18. | :03:19.
You're the Crime Commissioner, you never seem to be doing | :03:20. | :03:22.
I've got a robust scrutiny process in place, which looks at all aspects | :03:23. | :03:29.
Well, they do, but we've got to bear in mind that we're policing an area | :03:30. | :03:36.
We're dealing with up to 1,000 calls a day from the public. | :03:37. | :03:40.
These are a very small minority of incidents, | :03:41. | :03:43.
very serious incidents, but they are a very small minority | :03:44. | :03:45.
of incidents that affect a very small number of people. | :03:46. | :03:49.
But this latest scandal has led some to call | :03:50. | :03:51.
Cleveland Police should not be abolished. | :03:52. | :03:57.
Cleveland Police, every day, delivers outstanding | :03:58. | :03:58.
But it's constantly mired by these scandals and problems. | :03:59. | :04:03.
Every day, people who work for Cleveland Police save people's | :04:04. | :04:10.
I'm confident that I am the right leader for this organisation to make | :04:11. | :04:16.
sure we move through this phase so that the service we deliver | :04:17. | :04:19.
A grieving family have welcomed changes to x-ray procedures | :04:20. | :04:32.
at James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough after their | :04:33. | :04:35.
severely disabled son died after an unnoticed leg fracture. | :04:36. | :04:40.
Callum Robinson died at the Teesside hospital after a fall from his bed | :04:41. | :04:43.
at home days earlier, while being looked | :04:44. | :04:44.
Callum Robinson had lived his 14 years with serious physical | :04:45. | :04:52.
In August of 2014, while being seen by a Voyage Healthcare worker, | :04:53. | :04:58.
he slipped from his bed, resulting in two leg injuries, | :04:59. | :05:01.
including the fracture which eventually needed operating | :05:02. | :05:03.
Teesside Coroner's Court heard today the fracture wasn't | :05:04. | :05:10.
detected in an initial x-ray at James Cook Hospital | :05:11. | :05:13.
because it was felt Callum needn't have his incontinence pad removed, | :05:14. | :05:15.
resulting in a sub-optimal x-ray image. | :05:16. | :05:18.
But Callum's family are still confused about how the initial fall | :05:19. | :05:21.
happened while being looked after by care worker Amy Carter. | :05:22. | :05:25.
The other element was basically at James Cook, where we actually | :05:26. | :05:31.
had him checked over by a doctor, he was x-rayed, the x-ray was poor | :05:32. | :05:36.
Unfortunately that delay between, as Dr Bob Platter said, | :05:37. | :05:46.
He wasn't in a good position to battle the fractures. | :05:47. | :05:51.
In court today, Paul said his initial request | :05:52. | :05:53.
for a repeat x-ray was at first refused, but he's welcomed changes | :05:54. | :05:56.
made in the radiology department since then. | :05:57. | :05:59.
We are pleased that changes have been put in place, | :06:00. | :06:03.
especially two new procedures which makes it really clear | :06:04. | :06:06.
I think there was just too much discretion by the radiographer. | :06:07. | :06:13.
In a statement, South Tees Hospitals NHS Trust said it would | :06:14. | :06:16.
like to offer sympathy to Mr and Mrs Robinson and their family. | :06:17. | :06:19.
The trust has been open and honest and is sorry it did not identify | :06:20. | :06:22.
the fracture initially and has now strengthened its procedures. | :06:23. | :06:25.
Voyage Specialist Healthcare said Callum slipped from his bed | :06:26. | :06:28.
while under their care and they added the incident | :06:29. | :06:30.
was thoroughly investigated by the police and the Health | :06:31. | :06:33.
and Safety Executive and no further action was taken. | :06:34. | :06:37.
Amy Carter's training was up-to-date and included specialist training | :06:38. | :06:39.
In concluding the inquest, the coroner, Karen Welsh, | :06:40. | :06:45.
said Mr and Mrs Robinson always accepted they'd lose | :06:46. | :06:47.
Callum at some point, but not in such a tragic | :06:48. | :06:50.
Four teenage boys have been arrested after a 15-year-old girl | :06:51. | :07:00.
The attack is said to have happened around 7.30pm on Tuesday | :07:01. | :07:06.
near the Cloffocks car park in Workington. | :07:07. | :07:09.
The three 13-year-olds and a 14-year-old are in police | :07:10. | :07:12.
custody and detectives are continuing to | :07:13. | :07:14.
Now, would you go to your local casualty department with a broken | :07:15. | :07:26.
fingernail, a bout of toothache or a sore throat? | :07:27. | :07:28.
Well, some people do and it puts unnecessary | :07:29. | :07:30.
In fact, between the 1st and 25th December, more than 53,000 people | :07:31. | :07:35.
went to major A departments across the North-East. | :07:36. | :07:38.
Yet only 15,000 of those actually needed emergency treatment - | :07:39. | :07:41.
that's less than 30% of all those who attended. | :07:42. | :07:47.
It's prompted health bosses to urge people not to waste the time of busy | :07:48. | :07:50.
hospital teams with minor ailments and illnesses. | :07:51. | :07:53.
Damian O'Neil's at A at the Royal Victoria Infirmary | :07:54. | :07:56.
Fit and well, I hope. Yes. This is a very busy hospital and it's seen its | :07:57. | :08:13.
fair share of dubious visits, but this is a problem affecting all | :08:14. | :08:17.
major hospitals across the north-east. Those figures you're | :08:18. | :08:21.
mentioned are being described as unprecedented. It seems every winter | :08:22. | :08:25.
there is an increase of people going to A with minor ailments, but this | :08:26. | :08:31.
year is bigger than ever. 38,000 in the north-east went to A when they | :08:32. | :08:35.
had no business being there. Hospital bosses say this is a huge | :08:36. | :08:38.
waste of time and resources. We're seeing people with colds, | :08:39. | :08:40.
runny noses, sore throats, All of these things can be safely | :08:41. | :08:42.
managed by another route. Clinical pharmacists are available | :08:43. | :08:45.
on most high streets A lot of GP surgeries offer | :08:46. | :08:47.
same-day appointments. It's always worth | :08:48. | :08:50.
trying your GP first. And there are lots of walk-in | :08:51. | :08:52.
centres who can provide safe Not everybody needs | :08:53. | :08:55.
an A department. A is designed for serious, | :08:56. | :08:57.
life-threatening illness and injury and that's what we need | :08:58. | :08:59.
to keep it for. As well as the coughs and colds, a | :09:00. | :09:14.
lot of people are turning up with winter vomiting bug is all too vague | :09:15. | :09:18.
or simply because they are drunk. If you turn up with a common winter | :09:19. | :09:22.
virus, you run the risk of infecting everybody else around you. The | :09:23. | :09:26.
message is clear. Think very hard before you make the decision to go | :09:27. | :09:29.
to your A department. Every year we do a big publicity | :09:30. | :09:32.
campaign to try and help people Think about the pharmacist, | :09:33. | :09:35.
think about their GP. If they're concerned, | :09:36. | :09:38.
the 111 service will talk them through their symptoms to make sure | :09:39. | :09:40.
they're not missing any serious or underlying problems | :09:41. | :09:43.
and direct them appropriately. If they need to go | :09:44. | :09:45.
to an A department, the 111 service will advise them | :09:46. | :09:47.
to do that. If they need to go and see | :09:48. | :09:49.
a pharmacist, it will give The hospitals are stressing they | :09:50. | :10:01.
won't turn anybody away and if you do have a serious condition, you | :10:02. | :10:06.
absolutely should go to A If you just have a cough and cold, they say | :10:07. | :10:11.
stay at home, rest and drink lots of fluids. If you have broken | :10:12. | :10:15.
fingernail, and emery board should probably do trick. | :10:16. | :10:19.
A Newcastle company's been fined over ?7,000 for the unauthorised | :10:20. | :10:22.
sale of nitrous oxide after an undercover investigation | :10:23. | :10:24.
by the BBC's Inside Out programme and BBC Newcastle. | :10:25. | :10:26.
Although nitrous oxide is used legally in the catering industry, | :10:27. | :10:29.
it can be fatal when inhaled as a drug. | :10:30. | :10:31.
Newcastle Council, which brought today's court case, says | :10:32. | :10:33.
the judgement sends out a warning to other firms. | :10:34. | :10:35.
Here's our news correspondent, Mark Denten. | :10:36. | :10:43.
Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is a legal product used in the catering | :10:44. | :10:50.
industry, but it can also be used as a drug with potentially fatal risks. | :10:51. | :10:56.
Two former Northumbria University students, David Jenkins and Jonathan | :10:57. | :11:01.
Lawrence, ran to whip, which sold nitrous oxide director students. | :11:02. | :11:06.
Today both men appeared in court charged, along with their company | :11:07. | :11:12.
with the un-authorised sale of nitrous oxide. | :11:13. | :11:16.
The court heard David Jenkins and Jonathan Lawrence's company, | :11:17. | :11:18.
Out Of The Kitchen Ltd, made a total profit in 2015-16 of ?40,000. | :11:19. | :11:21.
Toon Whip, part of that company, made a ?10,000 profit alone. | :11:22. | :11:29.
The court heard the case came to light after an undercover | :11:30. | :11:31.
investigation by the BBC's Inside Out programme, | :11:32. | :11:33.
in which undercover reporter Philippa Goymer purchased two boxes | :11:34. | :11:35.
She was given instructions by staff, who were not Jenkins on Lawrence. | :11:36. | :11:54.
Two people working as distributors for the company also showed our | :11:55. | :11:57.
reporter how to use above room to inhale the gas. | :11:58. | :11:59.
Magistrates here imposed a fine totalling ?7,620 | :12:00. | :12:00.
on Out Of The Kitchen Ltd, which must be paid within 14 days. | :12:01. | :12:07.
Newcastle Council trading standards brought the case and says it's a | :12:08. | :12:13.
warning to other firms. I'm absolutely delighted, it sends out a | :12:14. | :12:16.
firm and clear message to those people who are selling nitrous oxide | :12:17. | :12:21.
and potentially putting people's lives that risks. All credit to the | :12:22. | :12:26.
BBC, the Stinger exposed the company and highlighted what they are doing | :12:27. | :12:32.
and the sale of much as oxide for recreational purposes. We know young | :12:33. | :12:35.
people participate in this, but we are aware there are deaths | :12:36. | :12:41.
associated with taking it. We have a responsibility as the local | :12:42. | :12:44.
authority to look after people's health and well-being. The BBC | :12:45. | :12:45.
played a key role in this activity. Meanwhile, the case | :12:46. | :12:49.
against David Jenkins and Jonathan Lawrence was adjourned | :12:50. | :12:51.
until later this month. School children in Sunderland | :12:52. | :12:56.
were treated to a special performance by musicians | :12:57. | :12:58.
from the Royal Philharmonic The performance for children with | :12:59. | :13:00.
special needs at Sunningdale School was led by world-renowned composer | :13:01. | :13:05.
Tim Steiner. The musicians are touring special | :13:06. | :13:09.
schools in Sunderland as part of the Sound Around project - | :13:10. | :13:12.
aimed at engaging young people A performance that was music | :13:13. | :13:15.
to the ears of children Some of the country's | :13:16. | :13:23.
finest musicians from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra | :13:24. | :13:28.
took a break from their globetrotting careers | :13:29. | :13:30.
to stop off in Sunderland, playing everything from | :13:31. | :13:33.
classical favourites MONTAGUES AND CAPULETS, | :13:34. | :13:34.
DANCE OF THE KNIGHTS. One of the things that we believe, | :13:35. | :13:54.
and absolutely is the case, is that when you put young people | :13:55. | :13:59.
in the presence of first-class musicians playing first-class music, | :14:00. | :14:03.
everybody responds really positively It's such a good way to bring people | :14:04. | :14:08.
together in quite meaningful ways. A chance for the children to see, | :14:09. | :14:15.
hear and feel the music. The schools tour is part | :14:16. | :14:24.
of the Sound Around project, which aims to engage young people | :14:25. | :14:44.
with live orchestral music. Music is being squeezed | :14:45. | :14:49.
in the curriculum in schools, but we think it's very important | :14:50. | :14:53.
that people all over the country should have access to this | :14:54. | :14:56.
world-class kind of orchestral We don't have local, | :14:57. | :14:58.
easily accessible opportunities for children, so for children to be | :14:59. | :15:04.
able to hear and play with a London orchestra is just | :15:05. | :15:07.
a fantastic opportunity. Young people from schools | :15:08. | :15:11.
across the city will also help to produce concerts | :15:12. | :15:16.
at the Sunderland Empire in March. Basketball is well ex back tonight's | :15:17. | :15:28.
sports news is coming up. Plus, the bid by one of our seaside | :15:29. | :15:33.
towns to coax more big names After a crisp winter's day-to-day, | :15:34. | :15:48.
all change for tomorrow thanks to this weather front. Join me shortly | :15:49. | :15:50.
for the full forecast. A Cumbrian soldier who suffered | :15:51. | :15:53.
life-changing injuries in Afghanistan sets off later this | :15:54. | :15:55.
week to climb the highest mountain Del Spry was in a vehicle blown up | :15:56. | :15:58.
by a roadside bomb in 2009, leaving him with brain | :15:59. | :16:05.
injuries and deafness. He's now part of a team of disabled | :16:06. | :16:08.
veterans hoping to reach the summit of Mount Aconcagua | :16:09. | :16:11.
in the Argentinian Andes. Former signalman Del Spry, | :16:12. | :16:15.
training here on the 99 steps of the Wetherall viaduct | :16:16. | :16:23.
near Carlisle, has already faced Not least being blown | :16:24. | :16:25.
up by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan and left | :16:26. | :16:29.
with life-changing injuries. The injuries, the main part | :16:30. | :16:33.
was a brain injury where I had a lot It has been difficult | :16:34. | :16:40.
to get back on my feet. Actually, just getting back | :16:41. | :16:47.
on track with my life. Now Del is part of a team | :16:48. | :16:52.
of disabled veterans hoping to achieve a world first in climbing | :16:53. | :16:54.

to tackle the tallest peak in the Andes, Mount Aconcagua, | :17:06. | :17:08.
at nearly 23,000 feet. Being part of the team as well, | :17:09. | :17:10.
it's a really tight-knit team, we've gone through a | :17:11. | :17:27.
rigorous selection to get It's great to be amongst | :17:28. | :17:29.
that camaraderie again. The Adaptive Challenge, | :17:30. | :17:32.
as it's known, represents a grand ambition, but the spirit | :17:33. | :17:34.
is all about rebuilding It's not about your disability, | :17:35. | :17:36.
it's about your abilities. There's various injuries | :17:37. | :17:44.
within the team - gunshot It just proves that | :17:45. | :17:46.
anything's possible. The team leaves for South America | :17:47. | :17:53.
at the end of this week After all, climbing mountains | :17:54. | :17:56.
is what many have done Plans have been revealed to coax | :17:57. | :17:59.
more big stars to Scarborough with an increase in concerts | :18:00. | :18:14.
at the town's open-air theatre. Councillors are being asked | :18:15. | :18:17.
to approve plans to nearly double the number of concert | :18:18. | :18:19.
dates for 2017. The concert promoters say | :18:20. | :18:21.
it'll give the local It's not even London, | :18:22. | :18:23.
but Scarborough, playing host to big names last summer in the Open Air | :18:24. | :18:34.
Theatre. With 6,500 seats, it's the biggest | :18:35. | :18:39.
in Europe and hosted They went so well the promoters | :18:40. | :18:42.
now want to schedule almost double that, | :18:43. | :18:48.
18, in 2017. We saw the opportunity that actually | :18:49. | :18:52.
artists want to come here. In terms of the geography | :18:53. | :18:55.
of the country, it's a great location that's not really tapped | :18:56. | :18:58.
into and we have such a great venue. So looking at it with the council, | :18:59. | :19:03.
we said, right, OK, we've done really well with ten or 11 shows, | :19:04. | :19:06.
almost all of them have sold out, Ten years ago, the theatre | :19:07. | :19:10.
was in a sorry state. It had been closed for decades | :19:11. | :19:15.
and lay abandoned and unused. It was reopened by the Queen | :19:16. | :19:18.
in 2010 with high hopes. But they've taken | :19:19. | :19:23.
a while be realised. The theatre reopened | :19:24. | :19:25.
in the teeth of the recession. The going in those early | :19:26. | :19:28.
years was really tough, but the extra dates nearly double | :19:29. | :19:31.
the business here. It's estimated the concerts | :19:32. | :19:35.
will give a ?5 million boost 2016 shows attracted in excess | :19:36. | :19:40.
of 50,000 people to the venue, equating to around ?2.5 million | :19:41. | :19:50.
for the local economy. Having additional shows | :19:51. | :19:55.
is absolutely fantastic news. It could mean a return | :19:56. | :19:59.
to the glory days of the 1930s, when the theatre played a central | :20:00. | :20:03.
part in Scarborough's prosperity. The crowds then liked | :20:04. | :20:07.
lavish musicals. These days it's the likes | :20:08. | :20:10.
of Beach Boys, Cliff Richard and Olly Murs that will bring | :20:11. | :20:13.
in the crowds in 2017. If councillors back the proposals | :20:14. | :20:17.
for more dates, expect more announcements from the stars | :20:18. | :20:20.
that they too are adding Singing along to that one! | :20:21. | :20:40.
I hope our microphones were faded out, that wouldn't have been | :20:41. | :20:44.
pleasant for you. Let's start with rugby union. | :20:45. | :20:45.
Newcastle Falcons had a tough time over the holidays. | :20:46. | :20:47.
They'd played the Premiership's top two sides over Christmas | :20:48. | :20:49.
and New Year and there's no let-up tomorrow, when they take | :20:50. | :20:52.
But after coming close to beating leaders Wasps last | :20:53. | :20:55.
week at Kingston Park, this one might be too close to call, | :20:56. | :20:58.
The Falcons came away empty-handed from champions Saracens | :20:59. | :21:03.
on Christmas Eve and subsequently stunned many by taking a 12-point | :21:04. | :21:07.
lead in the opening minutes against Wasps last Friday. | :21:08. | :21:10.
At the end, though, they had to settle for two bonus points, | :21:11. | :21:13.
a result both disappointing and encouraging in equal measure. | :21:14. | :21:16.
I think we'd be encouraged by the performance, | :21:17. | :21:18.
I think Wasps, along with Sarries, are a top-two team. | :21:19. | :21:24.
To run them so close is good to perform that well | :21:25. | :21:27.
and show we can compete, but also disappointing | :21:28. | :21:29.
Home advantage shouldn't be underestimated. | :21:30. | :21:35.
The Falcons beat Bath at Kingston Park last season | :21:36. | :21:37.
and will want to make amends for the drubbing they suffered | :21:38. | :21:40.
against the star-studded side at The Rec in September. | :21:41. | :21:43.
Bath scored eight tries against the Falcons earlier | :21:44. | :21:45.
in the season on home turf and will be looking to get back | :21:46. | :21:48.
to winning ways after two defeats on the trot. | :21:49. | :21:51.
But after coming so close to beating leaders Wasps last week, | :21:52. | :21:54.
the Falcons will be full of confidence and are | :21:55. | :21:56.
looking upwards rather than over their shoulder. | :21:57. | :22:00.
That game against Bath gave us a bit of a reality check. | :22:01. | :22:04.
After that, we worked hard and we went away | :22:05. | :22:07.
and we've won at Gloucester, we've won at Northampton and we've | :22:08. | :22:09.
Harlequins was another cracking game. | :22:10. | :22:14.
We feel like we've learned from that experience | :22:15. | :22:16.
We are now a club looking towards that top six. | :22:17. | :22:20.
We want to be in the top half of the league and after | :22:21. | :22:23.
Hopefully having home advantage on Friday will swing | :22:24. | :22:26.
I think we're confident but we're not arrogant, | :22:27. | :22:29.
We know on our day, mentally, if we are switched on and turn up, | :22:30. | :22:34.
But if you're not on the money for the whole 80 minutes, | :22:35. | :22:40.
like we saw on Friday against Wasps, they will beat you. | :22:41. | :22:44.
We have to be really good for the whole 80 minutes, | :22:45. | :22:48.
not drop off for two or three minutes here and there. | :22:49. | :22:50.
Hopefully we'll do that against Bath and win the game. | :22:51. | :22:55.
On to football, and a couple more comings and goings | :22:56. | :22:57.
Fulham's young Irish defender Sean Kavanagh has joined | :22:58. | :23:01.
And two players are leaving Middlesbrough. | :23:02. | :23:05.
Belgian international midfielder Julien de Sart will see out the rest | :23:06. | :23:08.
And goalkeeper Tomas Meijas has returned home to Spain. | :23:09. | :23:14.
He's moved to the second division side Rayo Vallecano | :23:15. | :23:16.
Meanwhile, the West Ham boss, Slaven Bilic, reported to have had | :23:17. | :23:21.
a bid turned down for Jermain Defoe, has today been talking | :23:22. | :23:24.
up his admiration for the in-form Sunderland striker. | :23:25. | :23:29.
He has the things that are most important in a football | :23:30. | :23:31.
Last season he was maybe, or probably, the main | :23:32. | :23:42.
He continues to do the same this season. | :23:43. | :23:49.
We shall hear a response from David Moyes tomorrow. | :23:50. | :24:03.
Another club hoping to hang on to their top scorer during this | :24:04. | :24:06.
month's transfer window are Carlisle United. | :24:07. | :24:08.
The Cumbrians, who play at in-form League Two rivals | :24:09. | :24:10.
Colchester on Saturday, lost their unbeaten home | :24:11. | :24:11.
record last weekend, despite Charlie Wyke giving | :24:12. | :24:13.
Manager Keith Curle wants to see the young striker continue | :24:14. | :24:17.
to inspire his side's promotion push. | :24:18. | :24:18.
If somebody comes in with an offer that I think is right | :24:19. | :24:22.
for the football club, right for Charlie and right | :24:23. | :24:24.
But if not, I'm more than happy with the focus that Charlie's got. | :24:25. | :24:28.
Charlie likes scoring goals and Charlie is very happy | :24:29. | :24:30.
with the professional environment he's working in because | :24:31. | :24:32.
He's at a great age and he's got a very good work ethic. | :24:33. | :24:43.
Tomorrow night will have a full look ahead to the FA Cup weekend. Now | :24:44. | :24:49.
time for the weather and it's been affording us the most fantastic | :24:50. | :24:54.
views. Crystal clear days. Some lovely pictures last night and | :24:55. | :25:00.
another couple tonight. If you send us pictures, send us accurate | :25:01. | :25:04.
information with the photos, that helps. This one comes from earlier | :25:05. | :25:09.
today. Jeff tells us this is exhibition Park in Newcastle earlier | :25:10. | :25:14.
today with ducks standing on ice. If we take a close look, I think we'll | :25:15. | :25:20.
find they are not ducks, they are black headed gulls. Thanks for the | :25:21. | :25:25.
picture anyway. He's chuffed just to be featured! Most of us will see a | :25:26. | :25:30.
frost again tonight, but it will be temporary. It will cloud over | :25:31. | :25:33.
through the night and temperatures will rise as rain moves in from the | :25:34. | :25:39.
West. Clear skies and a blue haze on the map at first. Temperatures will | :25:40. | :25:44.
drop to subzero, but cloud will bring patchy rain later, the breeze | :25:45. | :25:48.
will pick up and temperatures will recover. The temperatures on the map | :25:49. | :25:55.
of minimum values. Tomorrow is a different day altogether. A lot more | :25:56. | :26:04.
cloud around, outbreaks of Rainford many as well. That rain becomes | :26:05. | :26:06.
quite widespread, the heaviest of the rain at times in the West. It | :26:07. | :26:09.
stays cloudy with intermittent rain throughout the afternoon. A much | :26:10. | :26:14.
milder day with temperatures up to nine Celsius in Whitehaven, but it | :26:15. | :26:20.
will be breezy as well. That's the picture for tomorrow. That weather | :26:21. | :26:25.
front brings us the wetter weather. High-pressure tries to build for the | :26:26. | :26:29.
weekend and it feeds in on a westerly wind. It keeps us generally | :26:30. | :26:33.
dry as we head through the weekend. Tomorrow, a lot of cloud, outbreaks | :26:34. | :26:39.
of rain and breezy, but relatively mild. Saturday will stay generally | :26:40. | :26:46.
cloudy. Eight or nine Celsius. Sunday will see the cloud become | :26:47. | :26:50.
more broken so you're more likely to see brighter spells, especially in | :26:51. | :26:56.
eastern areas in that West 's south-westerly breeze. Temperatures | :26:57. | :27:00.
up to eight or nine Celsius on Sunday afternoon. That's the way the | :27:01. | :27:03.
weather is looking as we head towards the weekend. If you're in | :27:04. | :27:09.
any doubt, like Jeff, I shall explain. The -- the differences are | :27:10. | :27:14.
very subtle, but they are there if you look closely! I will have more | :27:15. | :27:21.
weather tonight and no more ducks. There's the January calendar winner | :27:22. | :27:24.
sorted already. You're very flustered! That's it | :27:25. | :27:31.
from us than now. If you are on a late shift at work or driving back | :27:32. | :27:35.
later, the careful because it could be liked -- it could be icy. See you | :27:36. | :27:39.
at 10:30pm. Goodbye. | :27:40. | :27:41. |
