Anti-fracking protestors have set up a camp in North Yorkshire

near the site which is expected to be the first in the country

to extract gas using the controversial method.

They say they'll use it as a base to stop lorries delivering equipment

needed to build the new wellhead in the next few weeks.

Today's roadside protests are, according to the anti-frackers,

They've also set up camp a mile or so from the site at

Kirby Misperton in North Yorkshire where planning permission has been

permitted to start the first commercial extraction of gas

using the controversial technique of fracking.

We're hoping that many of our friends and community members

will come to this big field, where we're going to create a huge

camp that is going to stop this industry before it gets started.

A last-ditch legal attempt to overturn the planning permission

for fracking by campaign groups on safety and environmental grounds

was thrown out by the High Court a few weeks ago.

The HGV traffic has to come this way, and we will do our utmost

to peacefully and slow walk the traffic making its way

to the site and to make it as difficult as possible

The gas-production company Third Energy has maintained,

through two years of planning and legal processes,

It says fracking poses no potential dangers and intends to start

preparing for production in the near future.

People here say they shouldn't be called protesters -

political and legal system that they say has failed,

and they'll be here for the duration.

A man's been arrested on suspicion of murder in Scarborough.

It's after another man, in his late 40s, was found dead

at a property in St John's Avenue in the town yesterday evening.

A 51-year-old Scarborough man is being questioned by the police.

who sexually assaulted two teenagers in Newcastle on Boxing Day.

The man approached the girls then carried out

the serious sexual assault in a phone box on Pottery Lane

The man left the area in a white VW Golf

North Yorkshire Police are investigating a bed manufacturer

following the death of a seven-month-old baby in York.

Playtime Beds has issued a safety warning on its website

stating that its made-to-measure beds could lead to risks

of strangulation or crushing and shouldn't be used.

Children's cots, some bunk beds, high sleeper beds and triple beds

after a man was robbed by a group of teenagers

in the Middleton Grange Shopping Centre in Hartlepool yesterday.

The man in his 30s was left with cuts and two black eyes.

The teenagers made off with his cash.

Police would like to speak to a Good Samaritan

who tried to stop the attack and may also have been injured.

Now, the Newgate Shopping Centre and Swallow Hotel

were built in Newcastle in the late '60s

when concrete was definitely the building material of choice.

Dubbed by some as the ugliest buildings in the city,

to make way for student accomodation and a brand-new hotel.

those unloved concrete buildings had a long history.

It was built in 1969 - when concrete was very much king.

Prince Charles didn't actually call it "a monstrous carbuncle",

but the description might well have fitted.

Let's face it, the Newgate Centre had a face

So for much of 2016 this has been happening -

the Newgate Centre and the next-door hotel

have been taken down, bit by concrete bit.

But it turns out the demolition here is just the latest change here.

The Royal Scotch Arms Hotel, which was a pub

built in the 19th century, stood on this site,

quite a sort of Gothic looking place,

which was converted into a theatre that could hold 2000 people.

Then in 1980 the Swallow Hotel, which stood here,

became the focus of an unsolved murder.

Businessman John Welch was found dead in his room,

with an even grimmer twist - he'd checked into Room 101.

But the area is now moving on from that grim past.

A four-star hotel and accommodation for over 500

It's a new beginning that's welcomed by those who know

It's natural stone, so I think we've got a fine sort of modern building

The new buildings should be built by 2018.

You can now plan your trek across the Cleveland Way

The entire 109-mile trail over the North York Moors National Park

The Park Authority has mapped the whole route

with volunteers carrying a Google Trekker camera.

They captured the 360-degree images over a seven-month period,

showcasing the beauty of the moors and coast.

Well, it is a tool, it's just that, and the beauty of it is you will be

able to look at the Cleveland Way from your sort of home,

from your phone even, and you'll be able to see

If you are planning a route, that will give you information.

If you want to meet friends, you can plan that,

some of the most iconic places in the North York Moors.

Another cold and frosty night tonight, and by tomorrow morning

we are expecting some patches of mist and foggy.

It could be fairly dense and parts, but it should lift fairly readily.

We will have a lot of cloud around and some sunny spells,

especially further east, but another fairly chilly afternoon

tomorrow, temperatures up to around four or five degrees.

As we go through Friday, it's looking like another largely

dry day, temperatures in double figures, but it is going to be

turning windier as we head towards the weekend.
