It's feared human remains could be washed out of a West Cumbrian

graveyard by future flooding, unless urgent action's taken

The cemetery, at Camerton near Workington, has already flooded

St Peter's church in Camerton lost a 20 yard strip of cemetery

Rock defences costing ?100,000 were installed.

But six years later, Storm Desmond not only

it altered the course of the river, making the graveyard even more

Since 2015, this bank was washed out over here. The water is heading

straight down towards us here instead of meandering around. If

nothing is done, it will cut through the graveyard like a hot knife

through butter. The cost of repairs

is estimated at 50,000, but the insurance will only cover

a small percentage. The church warden says

if the repairs aren't carried out, there may be unpleasant

consequences. In the 2009 floods, we had eight or

nine graves washed out. We have the unsavoury side of bones and Coughlan

's floating down the river. We certainly don't want that again.

The diocese is sympathetic, but doesn't have deep pockets.

The damaged defences are due to be reassesed soon.

But unless the money can be found, St Peter's graveyard looks likely

was hit by a car in Gosforth in Newcastle on Thursday night.

had barricaded himself inside a property.

It resulted in homes being evacuated because of a potential gas leak.

But then door to door enquires, revealed potential hazardous

substances in a neighbouring home, so bomb disposal experts

It later emerged the items were not illegal or dangerous.

Hello again. We are seeing a cold front sink towards the south-east,

bringing the odd patch of drizzle. Things feeling much colder. Some

clear skies but also some showers for parts of Cumbria. Temperatures

will take a dip. These are the lows in towns and cities. It is going to

be a chilly start tomorrow. Very cloudy for parts of Cumbria with

showers. Potentially spelling into the north-east. A lot of dry weather

and sunshine to enjoy as well. Highs of 12 or 13 degrees. The rest of the

Good evening. Was it spring or summer today? They crushed and some

of you may have been asking. A beautiful day across much of eastern

and south-eastern England. We saw highs of 25 degrees. Slightly

fresher in the north-west of England, and much fresher behind the

rain bearing weather front in the far north-west. As the front pushes

south, it
