Tributes to a gentle giant - the footballing world in shock | :00:00. | :00:08.
as former Villa defender Ugo Ehiogu dies from a cardiac arrest. | :00:09. | :00:13.
At 44, it's quite shocking news, and a tragedy. | :00:14. | :00:18.
There will be a minute's applause in memory of him before the big local | :00:19. | :00:29.
derby against Birmingham city. The tenant farmer with | :00:30. | :00:32.
no idea of his future - as Herefordshire Council | :00:33. | :00:35.
put his farm up for sale, Have to have a farm sale | :00:36. | :00:38.
at some point, and that will be the end | :00:39. | :00:41.
of our farming career. Our livelihood as farmers | :00:42. | :00:43.
will be finished. Something to cheer about in Telford. | :00:44. | :00:56.
I knew what other most up-and-coming cheerleading academies in the | :00:57. | :01:00.
country. -- I am with one of the most up and coming. | :01:01. | :01:04.
how a break-in at a community hall ended in a comic clean-up. | :01:05. | :01:08.
And the weekend is within touching distance, | :01:09. | :01:10.
Well, with more sunshine on offer, it's certainly not bad news. | :01:11. | :01:14.
I'll be back with a full forecast later. | :01:15. | :01:25.
Ugo Ehiogu was a "gentle giant off the field | :01:26. | :01:28.
Just one of the tributes to the former Aston Villa defender, | :01:29. | :01:35.
who's died of a cardiac arrest, at the age of 44. | :01:36. | :01:37.
Ehiogu, who started out as a trainee at West Bromwich Albion, | :01:38. | :01:40.
played more than 200 games for Villa. | :01:41. | :01:43.
He helped them win the League Cup in 1996. | :01:44. | :01:45.
Ian Winter reports on the life of a player | :01:46. | :01:50.
who inspired devotion among his team-mates. | :01:51. | :01:58.
Reflecting the sentiments of so many. | :01:59. | :01:59.
The single bunch of flowers that said thanks for nine years | :02:00. | :02:02.
Ugo Ehiogu's career began as a talented teenager | :02:03. | :02:05.
And that's where he caught the eye of the Villa boss, Ron Atkinson. | :02:06. | :02:09.
It proved to be one of the most astute signings of his career. | :02:10. | :02:13.
The first game he ever played for the Villa | :02:14. | :02:17.
was a friendly with Witney Town, a pre-season friendly. | :02:18. | :02:20.
who had seen a few good centre halves, by the way, | :02:21. | :02:25.
and the first challenge he made, Cowans almost went white. | :02:26. | :02:31.
He looked at me and went, "Oh, he is awesome!" | :02:32. | :02:35.
Ugo soon became a favourite with Aston Villa fans. | :02:36. | :02:39.
In 1991, he joined the club from West Bromwich ?40,000. | :02:40. | :02:44.
Nine years later, he was sold to Middlesbrough | :02:45. | :02:46.
During his time at Villa Park, Ehiogu scored a dozen goals, | :02:47. | :02:54.
but his real forte was preventing them. | :02:55. | :02:57.
In 1996, he helped Villa win the League Cup at Wembley. | :02:58. | :03:00.
So did team-mates like Ian Taylor, Lee Hendrie | :03:01. | :03:04.
and the England manager, Gareth Southgate. | :03:05. | :03:08.
He had a passion for the club that you don't see these days any more. | :03:09. | :03:11.
Just, yeah, a brilliant player, a brilliant player. | :03:12. | :03:15.
The picture on there, you know, in '96, when we won the League Cup. | :03:16. | :03:20.
Today's media conference at the Villa training ground | :03:21. | :03:26.
Suddenly, the second city derby on Sunday | :03:27. | :03:31.
didn't seem quite so important after all. | :03:32. | :03:35.
At 44, it's quite shocking, it's a tragedy. | :03:36. | :03:39.
Someone has lost their life, which is just terrible news. | :03:40. | :03:47.
Only six months ago, Ugo Ehiogu travelled to Telford | :03:48. | :03:49.
for the funeral of his former Telford team-mate, Dalian Atkinson. | :03:50. | :03:53.
Now family and fans across the country will mourn | :03:54. | :03:55.
his own premature death at the age of 44. | :03:56. | :03:59.
A man who loved football, love music and love life. | :04:00. | :04:11.
There have been so many tributes throughout the day on social media. | :04:12. | :04:13.
Former villa player Stan Collymore tweeted: | :04:14. | :04:16.
"One of the good guys. Truly broken." | :04:17. | :04:18.
The former Villa and West Brom manager, Brian Little posted: | :04:19. | :04:20.
"You always strived to be 'the best'. | :04:21. | :04:22.
On West Bromwich Albion's official Twitter account | :04:23. | :04:28.
"The thoughts of everyone at #WBA are with the family | :04:29. | :04:30.
who started his career at The Hawthorns. | :04:31. | :04:34.
Our sports editor, Nick Clitheroe, is at Villa Park now. | :04:35. | :04:48.
Nick, the club tweeted of their support for Ugo's family | :04:49. | :04:51.
You got to know him during his time at the club. | :04:52. | :04:55.
I was lucky enough to start covering Aston Villa at the time he was | :04:56. | :05:00.
breaking into the first team and got to interview him several times. He | :05:01. | :05:04.
was the epitome of a gentle giant, he was so softly spoken, it seemed | :05:05. | :05:09.
odd coming from such a big man when you came to interview him. He also | :05:10. | :05:13.
likes to look after himself. It was much easier to get interviews with | :05:14. | :05:18.
players, you were told that he would have do wait a bit, he was always | :05:19. | :05:23.
the last out of the dressing rabbit is had plenty of lotions and | :05:24. | :05:32.
moisturise as to put on. Gareth Southgate said poignantly that, I | :05:33. | :05:38.
probably played more aims with Ugo than anyone else in my career. In | :05:39. | :05:42.
many ways he was a gentle giant away from football, he was a colossus on | :05:43. | :05:46.
the pitch. It felt like a true partnership because we were prepared | :05:47. | :05:50.
to put our bodies on the line for each other. That is a testament to | :05:51. | :05:55.
the sort of player he was mad that is why the fans loved him so much as | :05:56. | :06:00.
well. He just got stuck in so hard. Plenty of goals as well from | :06:01. | :06:05.
headers, and a big part of the 1996 league cup winning team. Ian Taylor | :06:06. | :06:10.
said, devastated, lost a great team-mate and a friend. | :06:11. | :06:15.
We will be back with Nick later to look ahead at the derby game between | :06:16. | :06:25.
the and Birmingham City. -- between Villa and Birmingham City. | :06:26. | :06:28.
A farmer who faces losing his home and livelihood | :06:29. | :06:30.
says he has no idea what the future holds for him. | :06:31. | :06:33.
Steve Clayton is a tenant farmer in Herefordshire. | :06:34. | :06:35.
But next week the council will put Steve's farm and 42 others | :06:36. | :06:37.
The sale's expected to raise around ?40 million. | :06:38. | :06:41.
Steve Clayton's always lived and worked on farms, | :06:42. | :06:44.
building his 200-strong flock of ewes from scratch. | :06:45. | :06:46.
He's been tenant here at Rowlestone in Herefordshire for 14 years. | :06:47. | :06:48.
But, on Monday, the council will put the farm up for sale - | :06:49. | :06:51.
But now it's here, it feels really horrible. | :06:52. | :07:00.
if they're sold to someone else who wants to farm the farm. | :07:01. | :07:06.
So we will have a sale, and that will be the end | :07:07. | :07:09.
of my farming livelihood as a farmer. | :07:10. | :07:10.
Steve and his partner, Joyce, were both born on farms in Wales. | :07:11. | :07:14.
This is their home, and entire way of life. | :07:15. | :07:17.
Very, very sad, because we were assured | :07:18. | :07:20.
that we would be here the rest of our days. | :07:21. | :07:27.
Herefordshire Council declined to request for an interview | :07:28. | :07:30.
and said it had to find ways to fund essential services | :07:31. | :07:33.
and prioritise which activities it could support. | :07:34. | :07:37.
A spokesman said selling its smallholdings | :07:38. | :07:39.
was the best value for money for taxpayers. | :07:40. | :07:43.
Some farmers with lifetime tenancies will be allowed to stay. | :07:44. | :07:47.
But those like Steve can only hope that buyers may want them to remain. | :07:48. | :07:52.
that someone will come along as an investor and buy the estate | :07:53. | :07:56.
and leave us as tenants in here to go on farming. | :07:57. | :08:00.
This farm at Fromes Hill is where Steve and Joyce used to be tenants. | :08:01. | :08:05.
The more recent occupants have moved to a tenancy | :08:06. | :08:09.
It is certainly a turning point for tenants, but many of them | :08:10. | :08:15.
are seeing ways through that will give them advantages | :08:16. | :08:22.
and give them a new opportunity in the future. | :08:23. | :08:26.
In Staffordshire, plans to sell farms were overturned. | :08:27. | :08:28.
The NFU says tenancies are vital to provide opportunities. | :08:29. | :08:33.
and the colleges are full of young people, aspiring farmers. | :08:34. | :08:38.
The principle way into agriculture for them is through county farms. | :08:39. | :08:40.
So, you know, we just don't want to see them going. | :08:41. | :08:45.
In Rowlestone, Steve dreads the day his farm is sold. | :08:46. | :08:48.
He'll also have to sell his cows and sheep. | :08:49. | :08:51.
The cows will be sold individually with their calves, | :08:52. | :08:54.
But it looks like it's going to happen now. | :08:55. | :09:00.
Offers for Steve's farm, and the others, | :09:01. | :09:02.
A Coventry firm which supplies car parts for Jaguar Landrover | :09:03. | :09:12.
The 350 people who work at Coventry Press Assembly have been told | :09:13. | :09:17.
even though the company has a ?40 million a year turnover. | :09:18. | :09:23.
Our business correspondent, Peter Plisner, | :09:24. | :09:25.
has been following this story and is here now. | :09:26. | :09:28.
This must be a worrying time for the workers? | :09:29. | :09:32.
Certainly is, but the good news is there are no immediate redundancies. | :09:33. | :09:39.
This company makes parts for a variety of automotive companies. The | :09:40. | :09:46.
administrator says that for the last couple of years, the efforts to grow | :09:47. | :09:50.
have not generated the anticipated profitability will stop they add | :09:51. | :09:53.
that the company had been seeking a potential buyer, but this was | :09:54. | :09:58.
unsuccessful. As a result, there is no alternatives but to call in the | :09:59. | :10:02.
administrator. Hopefully there will be a swift sale on this. It has to | :10:03. | :10:06.
be said, it is often easier to sell a company once it has gone into | :10:07. | :10:10.
administration because a lot of the depth and liabilities have been | :10:11. | :10:13.
wiped away, making it more attractive. | :10:14. | :10:18.
What happens now? The company is on sale. Its sister company went into | :10:19. | :10:26.
administration last year, it was bought by a Company called liberty | :10:27. | :10:31.
international. That has bought a lot of companies out of administration, | :10:32. | :10:41.
including a Black Country steel company. It is interested in buying | :10:42. | :10:46.
this company. The likelihood of a quick sale is there, and of course | :10:47. | :10:49.
that bodes well for the majority of the workers whose jobs will | :10:50. | :10:53.
hopefully be saved. Some encouraging news, we hope. Thank you. | :10:54. | :10:56.
Nine hospitals in our region are to benefit from just over | :10:57. | :10:59.
?5 million of extra government money, | :11:00. | :11:01.
designed to help struggling A departments. | :11:02. | :11:03.
NHS Trusts in Dudley, Worcestershire and the George Eliot Trust | :11:04. | :11:05.
are the biggest beneficiaries - each getting ?100,000. | :11:06. | :11:08.
The cash is designed to help them meet the 95% accident and emergency | :11:09. | :11:12.
target for seeing patients within four hours. | :11:13. | :11:16.
A West Midlands trade unionist has failed in his challenge | :11:17. | :11:18.
to take over the leadership of the Unite union. | :11:19. | :11:21.
Gerard Coyne lost out, by just over 5,500 votes, | :11:22. | :11:23.
It emerged yesterday Mr Coyne has been suspended from his role | :11:24. | :11:29.
After today's result, he said it wasn't a fair fight. | :11:30. | :11:35.
During this campaign, I felt that the weight of | :11:36. | :11:37.
the union machine has definitely been behind the incumbent. | :11:38. | :11:43.
Even up until the last minute, in terms of recent events, | :11:44. | :11:48.
that has been a pressure on me during that campaign. | :11:49. | :11:53.
The Shropshire trust at the centre of an investigation | :11:54. | :11:55.
into the avoidable deaths of babies during labour was told by the NHS | :11:56. | :11:59.
regulator a decade ago that it's maternity services had to improve. | :12:00. | :12:04.
The Shrewsbury and Telford hospital trust was told | :12:05. | :12:07.
by the Healthcare commission in 2007 there were problems with fetal heart | :12:08. | :12:12.
monitoring, training and learning from clinical errors. | :12:13. | :12:16.
This evening, the trust re-iterated its unreserved apology | :12:17. | :12:18.
Birmingham City Council has confirmed that it's a step closer | :12:19. | :12:25.
to bidding to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games. | :12:26. | :12:30.
The Government said today it's ready to work with cities | :12:31. | :12:32.
The South African city of Durban is no longer in the running, | :12:33. | :12:36.
after failing to meet conditions set out by the ruling body. | :12:37. | :12:40.
A feasibility study has shown a successful bid | :12:41. | :12:42.
We have 95% of the facilities already in place, | :12:43. | :12:48.
so we wouldn't have to spend huge sums of money | :12:49. | :12:51.
on new facilities, so we can keep our costs down | :12:52. | :12:53.
and, of course, avoid building new facilities | :12:54. | :12:55.
that might become white elephants in the future. | :12:56. | :12:59.
Firefighters are likely to spend several days | :13:00. | :13:01.
at a distribution centre in Worcester, | :13:02. | :13:03.
where a major fire broke out yesterday morning. | :13:04. | :13:06.
More than 100 firefighters were needed to bring the blaze, | :13:07. | :13:09.
Crews need more time to deal with asbestos at | :13:10. | :13:14.
When windows of All Saints Community Hall in Stoke on Trent | :13:15. | :13:22.
were broken, it was an act of senseless vandalism. | :13:23. | :13:25.
Fortunately, the vicar was there to clear up the damage - | :13:26. | :13:28.
with a little help from Freddie Mercury. | :13:29. | :13:31.
Our Staffordshire reporter, Liz Copper, explains. | :13:32. | :13:35.
A boarded-up window at All Saints Community Hall in Hanley, | :13:36. | :13:39.
the result of vandalism over the Easter weekend. | :13:40. | :13:42.
The culprits might have broken the glass, | :13:43. | :13:45.
but they couldn't break the spirit of the vicar. | :13:46. | :13:48.
This was the Reverend Geoffrey's response. | :13:49. | :13:51.
He's posted this video on social media, of him cleaning up. | :13:52. | :13:58.
I think, in a way, to be quite frank, it was just fun. | :13:59. | :14:04.
It was wonderful, authentic, real, bona fide Stokey fun. | :14:05. | :14:10.
And this was the inspiration for that fun - | :14:11. | :14:13.
Freddie Mercury's performance in one of Queen's most famous videos. | :14:14. | :14:21.
All Saints' hall is used by lots of community groups, | :14:22. | :14:25.
and it was parishioners who helped to make the vicar's video. | :14:26. | :14:28.
Geoff is always up for a laugh, so that was it. | :14:29. | :14:31.
My headband came off, went around his head, | :14:32. | :14:33.
and the music was played, and Geoff did his news. | :14:34. | :14:39.
He just danced, and we were actually laughing so much that the camera | :14:40. | :14:42.
was shaking and we had to stop because we were laughing. | :14:43. | :14:47.
Then we just posted onto social media | :14:48. | :14:48.
and everybody was talking about it. | :14:49. | :14:52.
Already, the Reverend Geoffrey's antics have helped to raise funds | :14:53. | :14:54.
to repair the damage to this listed building. | :14:55. | :14:57.
It's a place which has joined people together. | :14:58. | :14:59.
It's been here for just over 100 years, and we want to make sure | :15:00. | :15:02.
for the new and next-generation that it is here | :15:03. | :15:05.
The video has been watched more than 20,000 times. | :15:06. | :15:12.
This has become an uplifting tale of a vicar who took on the vandals | :15:13. | :15:15.
Thanks for joining us on Midlands Today. | :15:16. | :15:27.
If you're planning to be outdoors this weekend, | :15:28. | :15:29.
you'll want to know how the weather is shaping up. | :15:30. | :15:31.
Rebecca is on the balcony this evening. | :15:32. | :15:46.
Yes, Mary, I'll have a full forecast later. | :15:47. | :15:48.
Think about sunkissed vineyards and the West Midlands | :15:49. | :15:52.
but it's already home to several successful wine producers. | :15:53. | :15:55.
With huge investment planned in the industry, | :15:56. | :16:00.
it's now one of the fastest growing agricultural sectors, | :16:01. | :16:02.
but is it good news for our local growers? | :16:03. | :16:04.
Over the last 34 years, the land at Halfpenny Green vineyard has gone | :16:05. | :16:10.
from growing crops to producing award winning English wines. | :16:11. | :16:14.
making it one of the biggest vineyards in the country - | :16:15. | :16:19.
and what started as a hobby has certainly been successful. | :16:20. | :16:24.
We've always grown fruit in this country, it's just another fruit. | :16:25. | :16:26.
It does need a lot more attention, it's a bit more weather sensitive, | :16:27. | :16:30.
and you need the right varieties, but it's not difficult to grow them. | :16:31. | :16:34.
The trick, really, is in ripening the grapes fully | :16:35. | :16:37.
English wines are now proving to be so popular that even | :16:38. | :16:41.
French Champagne houses are planting on British shores. | :16:42. | :16:45.
more than 1 million vines will be planted this year. | :16:46. | :16:50.
I think some people would be worried about competition. | :16:51. | :16:52.
We are still tiny in terms of volume. | :16:53. | :16:56.
The more English wine that is in the trade, | :16:57. | :16:59.
the more impact it's going to have, and we will all benefit from that. | :17:00. | :17:04.
Each year, we Brits drink 1.6 billion bottles of wine. | :17:05. | :17:08.
60,000 of those come from here in Staffordshire. | :17:09. | :17:14.
But, with more investment in the industry, | :17:15. | :17:15.
Recent weather has helped, with the last few years producing | :17:16. | :17:22.
some of what Martin says are the best tasting grapes ever - | :17:23. | :17:25.
I like it to be local wine, and it's a good taste. | :17:26. | :17:32.
We've had wine from the continent and wine from here, | :17:33. | :17:34.
and I find it tastes very nice indeed. | :17:35. | :17:37.
He's now hoping for a frost-free end to April to ensure 2017 | :17:38. | :17:40.
is another vintage year for the English wine industry. | :17:41. | :17:47.
and rejoin our sports editor, Nick Clitheroe. | :17:48. | :17:51.
The death of former Villa defender Ugo Ehiogu will clearly dominate | :17:52. | :17:55.
thoughts at the important local derby between Villa | :17:56. | :17:57.
There will be a sombre atmosphere before kick-off, no doubt. The fans | :17:58. | :18:15.
wanted to pay tribute to Ugo Ehiogu as they arrive, and there will be | :18:16. | :18:18.
one minute's applause before the gig off, and both teams will be wearing | :18:19. | :18:23.
black armbands, as will the two teams in the final at Wembley on | :18:24. | :18:28.
Saturday. When the game kicks off, there is so much at stake on Sunday, | :18:29. | :18:31.
not particularly for Aston Villa, there season is petering out, but | :18:32. | :18:37.
for Birmingham City, they are in a relegation battle, just three points | :18:38. | :18:39.
above the validation zone with three points to go. Their manager resigned | :18:40. | :18:48.
on Monday and was replaced by Harry Redknapp on Tuesday. Just two wins | :18:49. | :18:52.
from 22 league matches, and depending on other results, they | :18:53. | :18:58.
could kick off in the bottom three. There is no doubt that the two | :18:59. | :19:03.
managers have great respect for each other. | :19:04. | :19:04.
I'm sure he will do a great job in the long term at Villa, | :19:05. | :19:10.
but Birmingham is another big club as well. | :19:11. | :19:12.
This is a club that should be up there, | :19:13. | :19:14.
pushing to get into the Premier League, | :19:15. | :19:16.
With his experience and his know-how, | :19:17. | :19:19.
then they might be a different proposition. | :19:20. | :19:20.
He couldn't have wished for a better start, | :19:21. | :19:24.
and I'm sure he's quietly confident that he will get them a win. | :19:25. | :19:28.
We've already seen Coventry City relegated this season, Nick. | :19:29. | :19:36.
How critical is this weekend for the other teams | :19:37. | :19:38.
Let's start in the Championship. Burton Albion after some decent | :19:39. | :19:51.
results recently, beating Birmingham City on Monday, have got a chance of | :19:52. | :19:55.
guaranteeing their safety this weekend if they win, but they have | :19:56. | :19:58.
got a tough home game against Leeds if they are going to do that. In | :19:59. | :20:02.
League One, there is a sense of danger hanging around Port Vale in | :20:03. | :20:06.
particular, they are still in the relegation zone at the moment, two | :20:07. | :20:10.
points adrift of safety heading into the final week of the season, and a | :20:11. | :20:13.
tough game against Bolton this weekend. They do have a match in | :20:14. | :20:21.
hand against Walsall, which could be the life-saver for them. Shrewsbury | :20:22. | :20:26.
Town, they are not in trouble, they are above the allegations as they | :20:27. | :20:33.
take on Southend tomorrow. -- above the relegation zone. | :20:34. | :20:34.
There's a special live programme on BBC WM's Facebook page | :20:35. | :20:37.
previewing the Second City Derby at 7pm this evening, | :20:38. | :20:39.
and they'll also have full match day commentary. | :20:40. | :20:41.
The University of Birmingham hockey team will attempt | :20:42. | :20:43.
to win the women's Premier Division title this weekend - | :20:44. | :20:45.
and qualify for Europe in the process. | :20:46. | :20:47.
They finished fourth in the regular season. | :20:48. | :20:49.
That means they will face a Surbiton team in the playoff semifinals - | :20:50. | :20:52.
Surbiton have only lost once in three years. | :20:53. | :20:58.
It gives me goose bumps thinking about it. | :20:59. | :21:00.
It will be something that we've talked about, | :21:01. | :21:05.
certainly since I first came to Birmingham three years ago. | :21:06. | :21:08.
It's always been our aim at the start of the year. | :21:09. | :21:10.
I think it would be so good for the club, | :21:11. | :21:13.
and just to get that experience and that accolade | :21:14. | :21:15.
It's been given provisional recognition as an Olympic sport, | :21:16. | :21:20.
is one of the fastest growing participation activities, | :21:21. | :21:24.
but you might not actually consider it to be a sport. | :21:25. | :21:26.
We're talking cheerleading - and this weekend athletes | :21:27. | :21:28.
from Bridgnorth and Telford will fly out | :21:29. | :21:30.
to compete at the International Cheerleading Championships, | :21:31. | :21:34.
Nicola Beckford is with some of the team now. | :21:35. | :21:37.
Training has been going incredibly well. This is team England, and they | :21:38. | :21:50.
had been going for this afternoon. As you say, cheerleading is | :21:51. | :21:57.
incredibly popular. There are more than 250,000 competitive | :21:58. | :21:59.
cheerleaders across the UK, and here they train 200 athletes every week. | :22:00. | :22:05.
Joining me is Rachel, who is the head coach for team England. Why is | :22:06. | :22:11.
Telford so popular for cheerleading? Location wise, it is central. We | :22:12. | :22:15.
have a national team training here, and some of these goals from | :22:16. | :22:19.
Hartlepool and London, it is easy for them to get to being so central. | :22:20. | :22:25.
We have championships held here every year as well. What does it | :22:26. | :22:31.
take to be a champion? A lot of dedication, we meet goals from all | :22:32. | :22:35.
over the country, we train for eight hour sessions, submit video tasks | :22:36. | :22:40.
that were, stamina everyday so we can be in the best shape we can be. | :22:41. | :22:44.
Some people watching this might not think it is a real sport. How can it | :22:45. | :22:52.
not be? When I think of a sport, it is working towards something | :22:53. | :22:54.
competitively, and it being athletic, and cheerleading is all | :22:55. | :23:04.
about. Is it really that complex? It is a mix of gymnastics and | :23:05. | :23:07.
acrobatics, it is exhausting. The reward from it is sensational, it | :23:08. | :23:12.
feels incredible. Have you think you are going to do? I don't want to be | :23:13. | :23:17.
about how we're going to do, we will aim for the top ten. It is the first | :23:18. | :23:24.
national team that has been unified to represent the country, it is a | :23:25. | :23:27.
first for us, we are really excited. Who are your biggest competitors? | :23:28. | :23:32.
America, they are an inspiration. We have been working really hard, so we | :23:33. | :23:39.
might be the dark horses this year. Fantastic. Good luck, everybody. | :23:40. | :23:42.
Angus cross that they come home with a metal! -- fingers crossed that | :23:43. | :23:46.
they come home with a medal. Let's find out how the weather | :23:47. | :23:48.
is looking for the weekend. Rebecca is on the balcony | :23:49. | :23:51.
with the forecast. This weekend is that the much more | :23:52. | :24:00.
promising. Still some cold risk for gardeners, and that is into next | :24:01. | :24:03.
week as well. Certainly a cloudy day today, as these pictures will it | :24:04. | :24:09.
illustrate. Very limited brightness today. Temperatures did do a little | :24:10. | :24:14.
better in the brightness, but most of that came from the blossom and | :24:15. | :24:18.
the carpet of bluebells that we have got across the region. The weekend | :24:19. | :24:22.
is looking more promising, Mike I say. It will stay settled with high | :24:23. | :24:26.
pressure in charge. We will see some sunshine at times, there will still | :24:27. | :24:31.
be some cloud here and there, and also some chilly nights on the way. | :24:32. | :24:36.
Tonight, a cold front is draped across us, and that is working | :24:37. | :24:41.
southwards. It is making McLeod figure, providing some rain, and | :24:42. | :24:45.
also strengthening the breeze. Is that sinks southwards, the cloud | :24:46. | :24:48.
will thicken further to the south, but in the North it will be clear | :24:49. | :24:53.
skies and temperatures falling away, with lows of seven Celsius. A chilly | :24:54. | :24:57.
start for the North Midlands tomorrow. The possibility of a spot | :24:58. | :25:04.
of rain, but dry and bright through the morning. The cloud will melt | :25:05. | :25:07.
away and in the sunshine temperatures will do very well | :25:08. | :25:10.
indeed, getting up to around 15 Celsius. Still the risk of a spot of | :25:11. | :25:15.
rain here and there, mostly across the north-east, but that will melt | :25:16. | :25:18.
away by the overnight period with light winds, and temperatures could | :25:19. | :25:24.
reach two Celsius. We are likely to see a touch of frost again. A | :25:25. | :25:28.
warning for gardeners, but it will get worse. We are seeing a weather | :25:29. | :25:37.
front working across us. A chilly start but then temperatures up to 15 | :25:38. | :25:41.
Celsius. As the cold front moves across us on Monday, that will | :25:42. | :25:44.
introduce a northerly wind which will come straight from the Arctic, | :25:45. | :25:51.
very cold indeed. Snow showers are not out of the question, a | :25:52. | :25:56.
widespread frost. A return to hats, scarves and gloves. Make the best of | :25:57. | :25:59.
it while you have it! Before we go, a quick look ahead | :26:00. | :26:01.
to this weekend's Sunday Politics. for control of | :26:02. | :26:04.
Warwickshire County Council. At the moment, the Conservatives | :26:05. | :26:07.
have a minority administration. But they're jousting with Labour | :26:08. | :26:09.
to take overall control when voters go to the polls | :26:10. | :26:11.
in just under two weeks' time. This weekend's Sunday Politics | :26:12. | :26:14.
is on at the later time of 3:10pm, after coverage | :26:15. | :26:17.
of the London Marathon. I'll be back with your | :26:18. | :26:21.
next news at 10:25pm. Why didn't we go | :26:22. | :26:25.
to the library today? Because we don't have | :26:26. | :27:00.
a library any more. Why? The school's had to make big cuts. | :27:01. | :27:03.
Cuts like with a knife, miss? No, it means that the school | :27:04. | :27:09.
can't afford to pay for things like the library any more or shows | :27:10. | :27:13.
or books or school visits. CHILDREN: Awww! | :27:14. | :27:19.
No more school visits? Miss, will every school | :27:20. | :27:24.
stop having school visits? Well, every school in England | :27:25. | :27:28.
will have to make big cuts. They'll probably have to lose | :27:29. | :27:31.
some staff, too. | :27:32. | :27:34. |
