Seven years after their controversial take-over of Cadbury, | :00:08. | :00:11.
the American food giant Kraft has today announced plans for a | :00:12. | :00:14.
a multi-million pound investment at their Birmingham plant. | :00:15. | :00:17.
Now renamed Mondelez International, bosses say it's an investment | :00:18. | :00:21.
New state-of-the-art production lines at Bournville | :00:22. | :00:23.
will help boost efficiency, and ensure the factory | :00:24. | :00:27.
Here's our business correspondent, Peter Plisner. | :00:28. | :00:34.
Cadbury workers protesting back in 2009 against the Kraft takeover. | :00:35. | :00:36.
Their main concern was the future of Bournville, a site that's made | :00:37. | :00:41.
But far from winding it down the factory has just got | :00:42. | :00:47.
a ?75 million boost with these ultra-modern production lines. | :00:48. | :00:52.
It means that daily output at Bournville has now increased | :00:53. | :00:57.
to over a million Creme Eggs, five million bars of chocolate | :00:58. | :00:59.
and a staggering 400 million chocolate buttons. | :01:00. | :01:05.
The boss of Mondelez maintains it's a long-term investment. | :01:06. | :01:08.
We've invested ?200 million overall in the UK, ?75 | :01:09. | :01:11.
For employees, some of whom have worked here for many years, | :01:12. | :01:21.
securing this investment was not always easy. | :01:22. | :01:24.
Documents leaked to the media talked of some workers | :01:25. | :01:27.
being railroaded into redundancy, with talks being confrontational | :01:28. | :01:31.
and briefings being inconcise and information far from transparent. | :01:32. | :01:37.
Almost 240 people have left Bournville as a result | :01:38. | :01:40.
of the new production lines - unions say it's been a tough | :01:41. | :01:43.
Now that we are increasing our efficiencies, it makes | :01:44. | :01:48.
us more competitive, so when we get new models | :01:49. | :01:50.
or new varieties of different chocolate that come out, | :01:51. | :01:53.
we will be up there in the pecking order to try and gain some | :01:54. | :01:56.
The changes have also left some buildings at Bournville empty and, | :01:57. | :02:01.
according to Modelez, that could mean additional space | :02:02. | :02:03.
for its highly popular chocolate attraction, | :02:04. | :02:06.
Part of the Cadbury World attraction is an insight into manufacturing, | :02:07. | :02:11.
and we want to make sure that's part of the experience in the long term | :02:12. | :02:16.
and we are looking at plans in that space at the moment. | :02:17. | :02:19.
Proud too of the investment at Bournville, which also includes | :02:20. | :02:21.
a further ?6 million to set up a Centre for Chocolate Exellence - | :02:22. | :02:26.
the company's global research headquarters. | :02:27. | :02:30.

600 jobs are at risk in the Black Country tonight | :02:35. | :02:36.
following the announcement that the 2 Sisters Food Group | :02:37. | :02:38.
could cease production at their poultry processing | :02:39. | :02:40.
The company says it understands the impact the closure could have | :02:41. | :02:45.
and will offer up to 200 permanent roles at their other | :02:46. | :02:49.
Police are tonight searching for a nine-year-old girl who's gone | :02:50. | :02:55.
Danni Purser, who was reported missing just before 6pm this | :02:56. | :02:59.
evening, was last seen walking towards Stanton Lacy, | :03:00. | :03:02.
Officers are keen to identify a man seen walking in that area | :03:03. | :03:08.
A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, | :03:09. | :03:15.
following a stabbing near a tram stop in Birmingham. | :03:16. | :03:18.
It's a week now since 57-year-old Anthony Banting | :03:19. | :03:20.
was stabbed several times after getting off a tram | :03:21. | :03:24.
Lindsay, what's been happening today? | :03:25. | :03:36.
This afternoon, Anthony Banting toss four sons came to lay floral | :03:37. | :03:46.
tributes at the spot where their father died a week ago. Earlier in | :03:47. | :03:50.
the week, they released a statement, describing their father as a simple | :03:51. | :03:54.
man who loved spending time with his boys. He had been on his way to meet | :03:55. | :03:59.
one of his sons at a nearby park when the attack happened last week. | :04:00. | :04:04.
Are the police any nearer to understanding why this happened and | :04:05. | :04:09.
who did this? There is a latest development, and I can tell you that | :04:10. | :04:14.
the police have arrested a man in his 20s, thought to be from the | :04:15. | :04:17.
local Winston green area, though they are stressing this is just one | :04:18. | :04:19.
line of enquiry they are following. There are numerous lines | :04:20. | :04:21.
of enquiries ongoing, and we still would like to speak | :04:22. | :04:24.
to anybody that might have been in this area of Benson Road | :04:25. | :04:27.
between four o'clock and five o'clock on Friday, or anyone that | :04:28. | :04:29.
may have help for them identifying the individual | :04:30. | :04:32.
that we've circulated. British Transport Police have | :04:33. | :04:43.
released CCTV footage of a man they are keen to speak to. This | :04:44. | :04:48.
afternoon, they were stopping motorists, passers-by, and talking | :04:49. | :04:52.
to people using the metro network. Tonight, police are saying they | :04:53. | :04:55.
still believe this was a random attack. They do not believe that | :04:56. | :04:59.
Anthony Banting knew his killer. The Trust which runs | :05:00. | :05:01.
Worcestershire's hospitals turned away more ambulances this winter | :05:02. | :05:03.
than any other in England, bar one. Figures from the Nuffield Trust show | :05:04. | :05:05.
the organisation closed its doors making it the second worst | :05:06. | :05:08.
performing in the country. We do these things to make sure | :05:09. | :05:16.
that patients are safe in the system, so we don't agree | :05:17. | :05:18.
to diverts lightly. We are consulted when diverts | :05:19. | :05:22.
are requested and, if we think it's unsafe for patients, | :05:23. | :05:26.
we will raise that as a concern. A Birmingham mosque has been praised | :05:27. | :05:31.
for its generosity after raising a record ?1.2 million to supply | :05:32. | :05:34.
bread to starving Syrian refugees. An appeal was launched after staff | :05:35. | :05:40.
from Green Lane Mosque in Small Heath travelled to refugee | :05:41. | :05:43.
camps on a fact-finding mission. The money, raised in just eight | :05:44. | :05:48.
months, will provide There have been two Premiership | :05:49. | :05:51.
rugby matches tonight and, despite losing 36-26 at Sale, | :05:52. | :05:59.
Worcester Warriors did pick up a much-needed bonus point | :06:00. | :06:02.
in their fight against relegation. After the home side had | :06:03. | :06:05.
taken an early lead, Francois Hougaard grabbed the first | :06:06. | :06:08.
of four tries for Worcester, who have now opened up a ten-point | :06:09. | :06:11.
advantage over the bottom club, In the other game, Gloucester have | :06:12. | :06:15.
gone down 16-14 at Newcastle. I'll leave you now with | :06:16. | :06:25.
the weather from Rebecca Wood. It's certainly been | :06:26. | :06:30.
a pleasant day today. We started with some cloud, | :06:31. | :06:35.
the sun desperately trying to break through, | :06:36. | :06:37.
and it did for many spots. We got some glorious blue skies, | :06:38. | :06:40.
with temperatures responding nicely. More of the same to come as we head | :06:41. | :06:44.
through this weekend. Meanwhile, temperatures | :06:45. | :06:47.
are going to fall away. It will be a chilly | :06:48. | :06:50.
night for some spots. In some sheltered spots, | :06:51. | :06:52.
we could see temperatures touching close to freezing, | :06:53. | :06:54.
so we could get a bit of grass frost, particularly | :06:55. | :06:56.
across parts of Herefordshire. Further inland, we should manage | :06:57. | :06:58.
to stay up a little higher than that, but a chilly start | :06:59. | :07:01.
for many tomorrow, but the high pressure has | :07:02. | :07:04.
shifted ever so slightly. It starts to bring up much milder | :07:05. | :07:07.
air through the day tomorrow, so it will be a fine and dry start | :07:08. | :07:10.
to the day. We'll be left with lots of lovely | :07:11. | :07:13.
sunshine and much milder air Temperatures up into | :07:14. | :07:18.
the mid-to-high teens. There is more information on that | :07:19. | :07:23.
in the national forecast. I'll leave you with an outlook | :07:24. | :07:27.
for the next few days. Monday, and north-westerly wind will | :07:28. | :07:34.
drag in | :07:35. | :07:35. |
