Now on BBC One, it's time for the news where you are.

Poppi Worthington was just 13 months old when she died.

The police investigation into her death was sadly lacking.

In fact, the Independent Police Complaints Commission today

described it as unstructured and not fit for purpose.

Cumbria's Chief Constable has apologised for his force's failings.

In December 2012, an ambulance crew found Poppi Worthington collapsed

She was taken to the local hospital but pronounced dead.

Yet more than four years on, no one is any nearer to knowing why

The investigator found evidence that there had been an unstructured

investigation that essentially was not fit for purpose.

The evidence that we obtained clearly suggested that very basic

investigative principles were not followed.

The IPCC report details a series of errors and omissions

The house wasn't sealed off and potentially vital

One of Poppi's worn nappies was allowed to be thrown away.

A concern that she may have been seriously sexually assaulted

was voiced at the postmortem, but the IPCC says detectives

continued to focus on a natural death.

And witness accounts were not taken until eight months after her death,

At that point, her father, Paul Worthington was questioned

on suspicion of sexual assault, something he denied.

Both parents were later released without charge.

An inquest into her death lasted just seven minutes and recorded

The criminal investigation faded from public view.

But at the beginning of 2016, a family court judge ruled that

Paul Worthington probably did sexually abuse his daughter,

something he has always strongly denied.

The Crown Prosecution service looked at the case again,

but ruled that the police didn't have enough evidence

Today, the Chief Constable of Cumbria Police accepted the IPCC

criticism and apologise to Poppi's family.

We've been working very hard since 2014 to this date,

to try and make sure that we put things in place to make sure

And I'm confident that that is the case.

Police investigating the death of a two-year-old boy in Birkenhead

have arrested a man and a woman on suspicion of murder.

The child was found unresponsive at a house

He was taken to Arrowe Park hospital but pronounced

A 28-year-old man and a woman aged 24 are in custody.

Three weeks ago, Robert Chilowa was hailed a hero for saving

the lives of two children in a house fire which killed both of their

Now he's now facing deportation back to Zimbabwe.

Robert says he fled from there 16 years ago fearing

But the Home Office says it is safe for him to return.

A petition has been organised urging the Home Office to think again.

Network Rail says trains should be running in and out

of Liverpool Lime Street by next Thursday.

Two days ago a wall collapsed, sending tonnes

Engineers will put up netting to ensure no further debris

But it will have to close again later this year so that

permanent concrete supports can be constructed.

have an area of low pressure sticking on Saturday which looks at

on Sunday, tonight it's improving all the time. The rain is pushing

north, leaving behind a dryer skies and dryer skies. One or two fog

patches under the colds, temperatures dropping to four or 5

degrees. So it will be a cloudy start tomorrow, but a dry start the

most of us. Also may be breezy time to time through the afternoon, some

bright spells as you can see. Good-looking temperatures, ten or 11

degrees. Some more showers tomorrow night, rain on Sunday, we are down

to 7 degrees and the out look for Monday and Tuesday,

Good evening, mixed fortunes this weekend. Today we saw a fair share

of rain. This is the view one of our weather watchers in Doncaster. Not

particularly inspiring. This weekend there will be some rain, but some of

us will get away with a dry start. This is the satellite and a lovely

day in northern Scotland. But cloud and rain and thunder and lightning
