We'll find out soon.

0:00:000:00:01

Good evening.

0:00:130:00:14

The wife of a Merseyside Police motorcyclist who was left brain

0:00:140:00:17

damaged after he was struck by a dangerous driver has been

0:00:170:00:20

speaking for the first time about her legal fight to have

0:00:200:00:22

doctors let him die.

0:00:220:00:25

43-year-old Gulf War veteran Paul Briggs was knocked

0:00:250:00:28

off his bike in July 2015 as he made his way to work.

0:00:280:00:32

A Government lawyer wanted to keep him on life support,

0:00:320:00:34

but last month a judge decided Paul Briggs should be allowed to die

0:00:340:00:38

and is due to be transferred to palliative care.

0:00:380:00:43

In an interview with the Sunday Mirror

0:00:430:00:45

Lindsey Briggs says...

0:00:450:00:48

A four-year-old boy and his mother who went missing from Tameside

0:01:000:01:03

on Friday have been found safe and well in Ashton-under-Lyne.

0:01:030:01:06

Police had said they were "extremely concerned" about Andrew Shorrock

0:01:060:01:11

and his 34-year-old mother.

0:01:110:01:12

A Cumbrian charity is hoping to raise more than ?100,000

0:01:120:01:17

from public donations to help elderly people living

0:01:170:01:20

in fuel poverty to heat their homes this winter.

0:01:200:01:23

The Cumbria Community Foundation says 30,000 people are struggling

0:01:230:01:27

to pay bills in the county and some could die because

0:01:270:01:30

they can't keep warm.

0:01:300:01:33

Fuel poverty is particularly bad in rural areas where properties

0:01:330:01:37

often do not have a gas supply and rely on more

0:01:370:01:43

expensive solid fuels.

0:01:430:01:45

What have you done with your unwanted Christmas tree?

0:01:450:01:47

Well, one family in Ormskirk have rounded up more than 300 of them

0:01:470:01:51

in return for donations to Alder Hey.

0:01:510:01:53

It's after their five-year-old was saved by the children's hospital

0:01:530:01:56

after being diagnosed with a brain tumour, as Katie Walderman reports.

0:01:560:02:03

Meet five-year-old Daniel.

0:02:030:02:05

I hope you're not filming us!

0:02:050:02:07

I am.

0:02:070:02:08

What?!

0:02:080:02:10

Daniel's crazy.

0:02:100:02:12

He's very, very boisterous, and mischievous, and full of life.

0:02:120:02:14

But two years ago it was a very different story after he was

0:02:140:02:17

diagnosed with a brain tumour.

0:02:170:02:20

It feels like the floor's gone from under you, really.

0:02:200:02:23

You just feel like your whole world's collapsed.

0:02:230:02:25

You know, you get that awful feeling in the pit of your stomach

0:02:250:02:28

and it doesn't feel real.

0:02:280:02:31

But his life was saved by Alder Hey Children's Hospital.

0:02:310:02:33

That's our inspiration, really, to try and help give

0:02:330:02:34

back in some small way.

0:02:360:02:38

To thank them for what they've done for Daniel.

0:02:380:02:42

So how do you thank the people who saved your child's life?

0:02:420:02:45

Well, raising lots of money for them is always a great start.

0:02:450:02:48

Over the last two years, the family has raised almost ?10,000

0:02:480:02:51

by collecting old Christmas trees, like these, in return

0:02:510:02:53

for a donation to Alder Hey.

0:02:530:02:54

And this year they've collected over 300 trees.

0:02:540:02:57

We are collecting trees to make lots of money for Alder Hey,

0:02:570:03:04

because they did make me better.

0:03:040:03:11

They hope to raise enough money to pay for a projector to distract

0:03:110:03:14

young patients before a general anaesthetic.

0:03:140:03:19

It's a great opportunity for people in the local area

0:03:190:03:21

to support a local cause.

0:03:210:03:24

And this is where they're brought - to Formby Beach, where they're used

0:03:240:03:27

by the National Trust to prop up the sand dunes.

0:03:270:03:30

The family say they'll never be able to thank hospital staff enough,

0:03:300:03:33

but say thanks to Alder Hey the force is strong with this one!

0:03:330:03:43

Drivers heading into to Manchester city centre tomorrow morning

0:03:430:03:48

are being warned there will be extra congestion.

0:03:480:03:52

The Brook Street section of the A34 will completely close for a month

0:03:520:03:56

to allow major utility work to be carried out in connection

0:03:560:04:00

with the redevelopment of the old BBC site.

0:04:000:04:05

Time now for a look at the weather with Lucy Martin.

0:04:050:04:08

Good evening.

0:04:080:04:09

Another misty, murky start to the day today.

0:04:090:04:12

We saw plenty of cloud, as we did yesterday.

0:04:120:04:14

On the visible satellite here, you can see all that cloud

0:04:140:04:16

covering much of England.

0:04:160:04:20

There were maybe one or two more breaks than we saw yesterday.

0:04:200:04:23

As we move through this evening and overnight,

0:04:230:04:25

more cloud will thicken up.

0:04:250:04:28

It could produce a spot of rain.

0:04:280:04:30

Temperatures falling to an overnight low of 6-8 Celsius.

0:04:300:04:32

A mild start to the day tomorrow with plenty of cloud around.

0:04:320:04:35

Then this band of rain sweeps in from the North West.

0:04:350:04:37

I think that has the potential to have some heavy pulses in there.

0:04:370:04:40

Behind it, a bit more in the way of brightness and clearer skies.

0:04:400:04:43

Some heavy showers to look out for.

0:04:430:04:45

Temperatures to a maximum of ten Celsius.

0:04:450:04:47

It looks like it will be a chilly night into Tuesday.

0:04:470:04:49

As we move through the week we will see temperatures

0:04:490:04:52

temperatures drop off and winds pick up.

0:04:520:04:54

That's it from me.

0:04:540:04:55

We're back tomorrow morning from 6:25.

0:04:550:04:57

Good night.
