A murder investigation is under way after a man was killed as thieves

stole his car in Manchester in the early hours of this morning.

Steve Saul joins us now live from the scene.

What more can you tell us? The street where Michael Sam Winnall was

killed remains sealed off tonight. At around 3am, the 35-year-old and

his wife, Jessica... -- Michael Samwell. He was run over by his own

car. He died later in hospital, the car, a dark coloured Audi S3 was

later found abandoned. Detective Superintendent Jon Chadwick, leading

the investigation for Greater Manchester Police, says someone must

have heard something. Clearly, Cranbourne Road,

residential area, a lot of nice, there are people who were woken

out their beds, I don't know if it's anyone in the area,

I obviously appealed to anyone roundabout at three o'clock,

it's a really quiet place, so anything suspicious would stand

out a mile. The 35-year-old worked for a local

company Atkins, based in Warrington, who had said they are shocked to

hear what has happened and are offering to support the family. It

seems he was working on the new nuclear power station being built in

Cumbria. For people here in Chorlton, it has left them shocked.

Over a materialistic item, a car? You take somebody's life?

Is that really what it has boiled down to?

It's confusing, upsetting, there's not much more I can say, speechless.

For me, I work in the area as well, and I work at night, so walking

home, I'm now going to be a little bit different,

I think, but I think I'm sure for families,

this might be a lot worse, for people with young kids.

I'm a bit shaken up because obviously it's so close

to my house and it's just a bit scary, really.

The fact that this has happened to someone who lives so close by.

The vigil has been taking place at a local church, meanwhile police
