Good evening from Points West. | 0:00:09 | 0:00:12
More than 500 people had to be moved on by the police | 0:00:12 | 0:00:15
over the Easter weekend, | 0:00:15 | 0:00:16
as two illegal raves took place in Wiltshire. | 0:00:16 | 0:00:18
On Saturday night, officers seized sound equipment at Quebec Farm | 0:00:18 | 0:00:22
at Chitterne, on the edge of Salisbury Plain, | 0:00:22 | 0:00:25
and were then called to another event 15 miles away, the next day. | 0:00:25 | 0:00:28
Andy Howard has this report. | 0:00:28 | 0:00:30
Another bank holiday weekend, another illegal rave | 0:00:30 | 0:00:32
near Salisbury Plain. | 0:00:32 | 0:00:35
This old farm shed was turned into a remote nightclub. | 0:00:35 | 0:00:40
About 500 to 1,000 people crammed into here on Saturday night | 0:00:40 | 0:00:43
and this is what's left today - bags of alcohol, broken glass on the | 0:00:43 | 0:00:46
floor, there is even a tent left from someone's Easter weekend. | 0:00:46 | 0:00:53
Today, when we were filming, one late-night raver came back, | 0:00:53 | 0:00:57
with fond memories. | 0:00:57 | 0:00:59
It was amazing, really. | 0:00:59 | 0:01:00
Everyone having fun, everyone chilled out, loved up. | 0:01:00 | 0:01:02
There's fighting in town centres, brawling with people, | 0:01:02 | 0:01:05
but when you come to a party like this they | 0:01:05 | 0:01:07
are all from different walks of life and it's all happy and fun, and then | 0:01:07 | 0:01:11
you go home and get back to your normal day jobs. | 0:01:11 | 0:01:13
But it all makes the day job more of a night shift | 0:01:13 | 0:01:16
for the neighbouring farmers. | 0:01:16 | 0:01:17
Yeah, they were coming across the field, right across the farm. | 0:01:17 | 0:01:20
Any which way they could. | 0:01:20 | 0:01:22
Jane and her staff were up all night. | 0:01:22 | 0:01:24
Police were called to stop the hundreds turning into thousands. | 0:01:24 | 0:01:28
The Force helicopter flew above the farm. | 0:01:28 | 0:01:31
We had cattle in this field which are now | 0:01:31 | 0:01:34
in the shed because the fence is broken, there and at the other end, | 0:01:34 | 0:01:37
where, obviously, people just went through. | 0:01:37 | 0:01:39
This all brings back memories of 2009, when 4000 turned up | 0:01:39 | 0:01:44
here for a similar party. | 0:01:44 | 0:01:48
Anger. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:50
Just real anger and the adrenaline was just rushing | 0:01:50 | 0:01:52
because I was so angry at just... | 0:01:52 | 0:01:54
The sheer recklessness of it all. | 0:01:54 | 0:01:57
They just do not understand the damage they can cause | 0:01:57 | 0:02:00
when they are en masse. | 0:02:00 | 0:02:01
And they just think they have the right to just go anywhere | 0:02:01 | 0:02:04
they like and do what they like. | 0:02:04 | 0:02:06
Things like that shouldn't really be happening. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:08
People should have a bit more respect when they are coming down | 0:02:08 | 0:02:11
these sort of places. | 0:02:11 | 0:02:12
But I think it's everyone trying to get | 0:02:12 | 0:02:14
there, and once you're trying to get back and you've had your parties | 0:02:14 | 0:02:17
and things, trying to find your way home, you just stumble | 0:02:17 | 0:02:20
across everywhere. | 0:02:20 | 0:02:21
But I don't think it is at all done deliberately. | 0:02:21 | 0:02:23
But with a second illegal rave just 15 miles away | 0:02:23 | 0:02:25
near Amesbury the following day, it's been quite an Easter weekend | 0:02:25 | 0:02:28
for the farmers and villagers around the Salisbury Plain. | 0:02:28 | 0:02:31
Andy Howard, BBC Points West. | 0:02:31 | 0:02:35
A cash machine has been stolen from inside a supermarket in Malmesbury. | 0:02:35 | 0:02:39
Thieves broke into the town's Waitrose store sometime | 0:02:39 | 0:02:42
between Saturday and Sunday - it's thought a vehicle was used | 0:02:42 | 0:02:47
to take away the cash machine, after windows were smashed to get | 0:02:47 | 0:02:49
into the supermarket. | 0:02:49 | 0:02:50
Its not clear how much money was inside at the time. | 0:02:50 | 0:02:53
An original 18th Century theatre wall, which has been hidden | 0:02:53 | 0:02:55
for hundred of years, has been exposed as part | 0:02:55 | 0:02:58
of the building's restoration. | 0:02:58 | 0:02:59
The Bristol Old Vic theatre is undergoing major building work. | 0:02:59 | 0:03:03
And, as a 1970s structure was demolished, the original wall | 0:03:03 | 0:03:05
of the theatre can been seen for the very firs time - | 0:03:05 | 0:03:08
Lee Madan explains. | 0:03:08 | 0:03:09
After years of fundraising and months of demolition work | 0:03:09 | 0:03:11
knocking down the building that blocks it from view. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:14
The Bristol Old Vic now stands exposed. | 0:03:14 | 0:03:18
Behind us you can now see the original theatre wall. | 0:03:18 | 0:03:21
When it was first built, it was hidden behind two houses | 0:03:21 | 0:03:24
which stood here on King Street, owned by a Mr Foot and a Mr Gill. | 0:03:24 | 0:03:29
If you wanted to get to the theatre, you had to knock on the door and ask | 0:03:29 | 0:03:33
to be taken through. | 0:03:33 | 0:03:34
Depending who you ask, it was either because it was really | 0:03:34 | 0:03:36
Either way, without Mr Foot and Mr Gill's cooperation | 0:03:40 | 0:03:42
there would never have been in Old Vic. | 0:03:42 | 0:03:44
Their houses have been be placed several times over the years, | 0:03:44 | 0:03:47
meaning that the theatre itself has stayed hidden - until now. | 0:03:47 | 0:03:49
But, despite the many rebuilds, parts of Mr Foot's house remain | 0:03:49 | 0:03:52
visible among the rubble. | 0:03:52 | 0:03:54
We're finding little bits of his house still in existence actually, | 0:03:54 | 0:03:56
because even though much of the 18th-century fabric was taken | 0:03:56 | 0:03:59
down in the early 20th century, and of course, it's all gone again | 0:03:59 | 0:04:02
now, we're were still finding... | 0:04:02 | 0:04:03
We found a fireplace, bits of brickwork from his house, | 0:04:03 | 0:04:06
so we're trying to bring his character alive again. | 0:04:06 | 0:04:09
Maybe when people become and visit here next year when we're reopened, | 0:04:09 | 0:04:12
we'll be able to tell the story of Mr Foot a little bit. | 0:04:12 | 0:04:15
Not all of the money for this multi-million pound rebuild | 0:04:15 | 0:04:18
has been raised yet. | 0:04:18 | 0:04:19
There's still ?300,000 to go. | 0:04:19 | 0:04:22
The public will be asked to contribute to the final push | 0:04:22 | 0:04:25
with donations this autumn, then the building work is due to be | 0:04:25 | 0:04:28
completed next summer. | 0:04:28 | 0:04:31
Lee Madan, BBC Points West, Bristol. | 0:04:31 | 0:04:34
A quick catch up with with today's football matches: | 0:04:34 | 0:04:37
Bristol City drew 1-1 against fellow Championship | 0:04:37 | 0:04:39
strugglers Blackburn Rovers. | 0:04:39 | 0:04:42
In League One, it was a narrow 1-0 victory | 0:04:42 | 0:04:44
for Bristol Rovers against Oldham while Swindon's League One survival | 0:04:44 | 0:04:47
hopes suffered a setback after defeat at Walsall. | 0:04:47 | 0:04:50
Cheltenham Town fans will be happy with their 2-1 | 0:04:50 | 0:04:52
victory over Grimsby Town. | 0:04:52 | 0:04:55
Yeovil had a comfortable 3-0 win over Crewe. | 0:04:55 | 0:04:57
But in the National League Forest Green Rovers lost 2-0 to bottom | 0:04:57 | 0:05:00
of the table Southport. | 0:05:00 | 0:05:03
Back to work for some tomorrow, holidays continue for others. | 0:05:03 | 0:05:05
Bee Tucker has your weather forecast. | 0:05:05 | 0:05:08
Hello, good evening. | 0:05:08 | 0:05:09
A lot of the cloud that has been with us all day | 0:05:09 | 0:05:12
is starting to break up. | 0:05:12 | 0:05:13
We have one or two isolated showers out there | 0:05:13 | 0:05:15
but, with largely clearing skies, overnight tonight it is going to | 0:05:15 | 0:05:18
turn rather chilly, and that sets the scene for the rest of this week. | 0:05:18 | 0:05:21
We are going to see some fairly cool nights, one or two spots tonight | 0:05:21 | 0:05:25
could get down close to freezing, so do be prepared for a touch | 0:05:25 | 0:05:28
of frost first thing tomorrow. | 0:05:28 | 0:05:29
A beautiful day, dry and bright, plenty of | 0:05:29 | 0:05:31
sunshine, almost broken for many of us, just a bit | 0:05:31 | 0:05:36
sunshine, almost unbroken for many of us, just a bit | 0:05:36 | 0:05:38
of fairweather cloud building at times during the afternoon. | 0:05:38 | 0:05:41
Temperatures recovering quite nicely, we have light winds | 0:05:41 | 0:05:42
tomorrow so pleasant enough in the sunshine. | 0:05:42 | 0:05:44
One or two spots could hit 14 degrees. | 0:05:44 | 0:05:46
And as we head through the rest of this week very little | 0:05:46 | 0:05:49
rain in the forecast, if at all - so, dry and bright, a lot | 0:05:49 | 0:05:52
of sunshine, but by night it is staying cold and frosty. | 0:05:52 | 0:05:55
Have a good night. | 0:05:55 | 0:06:00 |
