Hundreds gathered outside Bath's Central Library today


to protest against plans to close the facility.


Bath and North East Somerset council wants to move to a smaller


building to save money, but many aren't happy with the idea.

As word has spread in Bath of council plans


So, opposition has organised itself into a clear message


Today, we're showing the city of Bath and other councillors


and the government how much we love this library,


I think it's an investment in the future.


If we cut this, were cutting possibilities for our


Bath and North East Somerset Council says it needs to plug


a ?49 million hole in its budget by 2020 and they say by moving


the library away from this location that will save ?800,000 a year


The council says it wants to start a new chapter -


moving it into a building that already has other public services.


It's unclear whether any books would actually be displayed


there, though people could order the title they wanted online.


We have to keep with the modern age and move forward -


so providing better Wi-Fi services and more computers and family space.


Plans will be shown at the end of the month and the council say


Meanwhile, the online petition to stop the library


moving has already had several thousand signatures.


A 40-year-old man convicted of trafficking women


from the Czech Republic to Bristol to work in the sex industry has been


brought back to the UK to serve his sentence.


Vojtech Paloc fled before he could stand trial,


Avon and Somerset Police officers collected him from Prague


overnight and now he'll serve a nine-and-a-half year jail term.
