Today, the RNLI officially launched a new lifeboat at Burnham-on-sea.

The service relies entirely on donations, and tens of thousands

of pounds was raised by local people to pay for it.

It's always been a popular spot - especially in weather like this.

Burnham got its first lifeboat in 1836, and today the latest

And here she is, the brand-new Burnham Reach.

A huge community effort went into raising money for her,

through bake sales, fun runs and charity balls, they made

and donations are required, and it just shows what can be done.

Safety is a top priority, especially what has happened

in the past with people walking out into the sinking mud,

It's also down to volunteers to run the service.

Today, they christened their new member.

She replaces one that was too old and too large.

The tide in Burnham-on-Sea goes out a long way,

so it is vital for us to have a smaller boat that

can respond quickly, we can launch and get it away

at low water when the tide is not suitably

in far enough to launch the bigger boat.

So we cover 24 hours a day, 364 days a year, and this new small

D-class is going to be vital in as providing that cover, really.

Today they took her out on a test run.

But with treacherous tides on this coastline, the crews are ready

Work began today to modernise Bath Spa station, ready

for new longer Intercity Express trains coming into

Over the next couple of weeks, platforms will be widened,

the tracks will be altered, and there'll be further work

going on in the surrounding area, including Keynsham station.

There'll be a reduced service from, to and through Bath Spa

A rail replacement bus service will run at weekends and bank holidays.

And finally, the Helicopter Museum in Weston-super-Mare is celebrating

the restoration of some of its historic World War tTwo

buildings with a big World at War weekend.

The Weston Airfield Control Tower and Pilots Block are now just

as they were back in the 1940s, and today and tomorrow the era

is being brought to life with period re-enactors,

The tower was originally a cab shelter on Weston

seafront in the 1920s, and the council, when they built

a small grassy airfield here, moved it here in 1935.

We recently got a grant from the Coastal Communities Fund

which went towards it, but there is a huge amount of work

been done by volunteers to completely rebuild it

Very warm feel to things for the time of year.

Again, the pollen levels are very high.
