Campaigners have gained accdss to a Sussex beach

Last year, West Beach at Newhaven was granted

"village green" status by the High Court, allowing residents

the right to use it, but thd owners of the port are challenging that

A sixth successive summer h`s passed without public access to thd stretch

of sand in Newhaven which appears every time the tide goes out.

Today, frustrated residents made their feelings known

by climbing over the fence designed to keep them off West Beach.

For over 100 years we've usdd this beach safely and sensibly and

I think they are showing us nothing but the deepest contempt
