Here in the South East tonight: Nine members of an Albanian gang | :00:00. | :00:12.
are jailed for dealing class A drugs in Sussex. | :00:13. | :00:14.
We'll be live in Brighton, with the details. | :00:15. | :00:16.
A retired Kent vicar urges the Church of England | :00:17. | :00:22.
- after finding love with a 24-year-old. | :00:23. | :00:26.
And, saying goodbye to a legend - stars of the motor racing | :00:27. | :00:30.
world gather in Sussex for John Surtees' funeral. | :00:31. | :00:38.
Nine members of an Albanian criminal gang have been jailed | :00:39. | :00:51.
for a total of 45 years, for their part in a conspiracy | :00:52. | :00:54.
to supply class A drugs across Brighton and Hove. | :00:55. | :00:58.
They were caught in an undercover police operation last summer - | :00:59. | :01:00.
eight of them were in the country illegally. | :01:01. | :01:02.
This was the moment the ringleader of the gang | :01:03. | :01:09.
You're under arrest under suspicion of conspiracy | :01:10. | :01:19.
The police investigation had gone on for months, | :01:20. | :01:24.
involving around 100 officers, but finally the gang | :01:25. | :01:26.
Nine Albanian men, eight of them here illegally, | :01:27. | :01:38.
were jailed for dealing class A drugs on the city's streets. | :01:39. | :01:44.
The impact's huge in a city like Brighton and Hove, | :01:45. | :01:46.
and it's not just their offending in terms of drugs, but actually | :01:47. | :01:51.
the fact that people are having to commit crime to be able | :01:52. | :01:54.
They're bringing in drugs from abroad, they're | :01:55. | :02:01.
sending money abroad, and it has a real negative impact. | :02:02. | :02:04.
Just last year, three Albanian men were jailed for kidnapping a drug | :02:05. | :02:07.
A few years earlier, father-of-two Xhem Krasniqi | :02:08. | :02:10.
was shot dead in broad daylight in Hove, and another Albanian man | :02:11. | :02:13.
And, in 2005, three Albanian men were given life sentences | :02:14. | :02:16.
for the murder of fellow Albanian Altin Molita, | :02:17. | :02:18.
who was stabbed 20 times in his car in Palmeira Square in Hove. | :02:19. | :02:23.
There are small elements within it which are really giving the Albanian | :02:24. | :02:26.
And I know Albanian people who live locally, who talk | :02:27. | :02:30.
about this very openly, so I know people within the Albanian | :02:31. | :02:39.
-- so we need to see that when people see criminality, it is | :02:40. | :02:45.
reported and dealt with absolutely firmly. | :02:46. | :02:53.
The Immigration Minister emphasised links between an incident in 2014 | :02:54. | :02:56.
and links with the Albanian community. | :02:57. | :03:07.
Sussex Police are organising a number of community events with | :03:08. | :03:11.
Brighton's large and peaceful Albanian population, to build trust. | :03:12. | :03:18.
They also, says the force, want these gangs caught and off the | :03:19. | :03:20.
streets. Our reporter Amanda Akass | :03:21. | :03:24.
is live in Hove - Amanda, how big a role has this gang played | :03:25. | :03:26.
in drug supply in the city? Well, Sussex Police said they were | :03:27. | :03:39.
dealing a significant quantity of cocaine right here on the streets, | :03:40. | :03:43.
and in raids carried out by the police across Brighton and how they | :03:44. | :03:45.
seized hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of drugs, cash and | :03:46. | :03:51.
vehicles belonging to the gang. They thought they could operate with | :03:52. | :03:55.
they drove expensive cars and even they drove expensive cars and even | :03:56. | :03:58.
brought in runners from outside the UK to help them operate, but they | :03:59. | :04:03.
were caught, and the police say they hope this sends a message that they | :04:04. | :04:06.
are determined to get these gangs of the streets. | :04:07. | :04:07.
A retired Kent vicar is calling on the Church of england | :04:08. | :04:10.
to change its policy on same sex marriage - after finding love | :04:11. | :04:13.
The Reverend Phillip Clements, from Eastry near Sandwich, | :04:14. | :04:16.
says he repressed his homosexuality throughout his career | :04:17. | :04:18.
But next week the 78-year-old is getting married to his partner. | :04:19. | :04:30.
He's spoken exclusively to our reporter Peter Whittlesea. | :04:31. | :04:32.
Packing up and preparing to leave for a new life in Romania. | :04:33. | :04:36.
My wardrobe is much simpler than this. | :04:37. | :04:40.
Next month, Phillip and Floren are getting married. | :04:41. | :04:48.
But for decades, Phillip says, as a parish priest, | :04:49. | :04:50.
he repressed his feelings because of the Church of England's | :04:51. | :04:52.
He' now calling on the church to allow gay clergy to get married. | :04:53. | :05:00.
It's only when I retired from full-time ministry that | :05:01. | :05:02.
I decided that I had to be my true self. | :05:03. | :05:08.
I think it's unnatural, if you're homosexual, | :05:09. | :05:10.
In February 2014, the House of Bishops decreed that clergy | :05:11. | :05:24.
Civil partnerships are alone, but the couple must remain celibate. | :05:25. | :05:32.
The church's position is clear that marriage is the lifelong union of | :05:33. | :05:40.
one man and one woman. This is a brazen and campaigning action, where | :05:41. | :05:43.
this priest is seeking to defy the church he has been part of the 50 | :05:44. | :05:45.
years. -- for 50 years. The couple say the | :05:46. | :05:51.
relationship is about love. But they admit that the age gap | :05:52. | :06:03.
of over 50 years has surprised some. All my friends know that I am | :06:04. | :06:06.
attracted to older people. They have more experience in life. I | :06:07. | :06:17.
came to the conclusion I must make up my own mind about my own life. I | :06:18. | :06:21.
haven't got much left of it, so I might as well make the best of what | :06:22. | :06:26.
I've got. And that is why he says he cannot wait to embark on married | :06:27. | :06:27.
life. A doctor who decided | :06:28. | :06:32.
a mother-of-three from Dartford was well enough to leave hospital, | :06:33. | :06:34.
even though she was asleep when he examined her, | :06:35. | :06:36.
has told an inquest into her death that he now accepts she should not | :06:37. | :06:39.
have been discharged. Sian Hollands, who was 25, | :06:40. | :06:41.
died of a pulmonary embolism just hours later at the Darent Valley | :06:42. | :06:44.
Hospital. There's concern over an increase | :06:45. | :06:50.
in the number of people being detained by Sussex Police | :06:51. | :06:52.
under the Mental Health Act. A new report by the Chief Inspector | :06:53. | :06:55.
of Prisons says limited access to hospital beds resulted in too | :06:56. | :06:58.
many vulnerable people NHS managers say they had to deal | :06:59. | :07:00.

and reduce congestion. More will be activated | :07:20. | :07:21.
in Hastings in May. Some of the biggest names in world | :07:22. | :07:27.
motorsport gathered in Sussex today to pay their last respects | :07:28. | :07:30.
to John Surtees. The only man to win world titles | :07:31. | :07:33.
on motorcycles and in Formula One, he's regarded as | :07:34. | :07:39.
a giant of the track - Piers Hopkirk reports | :07:40. | :07:41.
from Worth Abbey, near Crawley. The stars of motorsport flew in to | :07:42. | :07:59.
pay tribute to a racing hero and Pioneer. | :08:00. | :08:03.
Two reels, four wheels... -- two wheels. | :08:04. | :08:20.
A credit to the sport and a gentleman. | :08:21. | :08:22.
More than 300 gathered at the service. | :08:23. | :08:32.
John Surtees's car and racing bike was laid out as a tribute. Nobody | :08:33. | :08:48.
will ever do that, I mean, nobody will ever do that again, so in that | :08:49. | :08:55.
respect he is totally unique. When you saw people like that drive, you | :08:56. | :09:02.
wanted to be somebody like that. I did 50 Grand Prix, but never | :09:03. | :09:11.
achieved as much as John Surtees. John Surtees was a man with petrol | :09:12. | :09:17.
in his veins. He won the 500 cc motorbike Championship four times in | :09:18. | :09:22.
the 60s, and turn to Formula 1, winning the watch the chip with | :09:23. | :09:27.
Ferrari in 1964. Even in later life, he never lost his love of racing. He | :09:28. | :09:39.
was very keen to stay in touch with the modern day drivers. So today, an | :09:40. | :09:46.
emotional farewell to an extraordinary man, whose remarkable | :09:47. | :09:46.
records will always live on. Now let's take a look at | :09:47. | :09:53.
the weather, with Georgina Burnett - quite a few of us had some sunshine | :09:54. | :09:56.
today, is there any more Not necessarily for everyone | :09:57. | :10:08.
tomorrow, but some of us had some sunshine, certainly some blue sky. | :10:09. | :10:12.
This was captured by our Weather Watcher, so thank you very much for | :10:13. | :10:16.
all the pictures from today. Tonight quite a bit of cloud around during | :10:17. | :10:21.
the night, and also some grisly outbreaks of rain passing through. | :10:22. | :10:26.
Fairly mild, temperatures down to about 10 Celsius. Sorry start of | :10:27. | :10:30.
relatively warm tomorrow morning, quite great, some drizzle remaining | :10:31. | :10:34.
but drier by the afternoon. We may have some bright perhaps even sunny | :10:35. | :10:38.
spells around, but there's a fair model of cloud. Temperatures getting | :10:39. | :10:40.
up to 15 or 16 though, above average for the of year. Talking of | :10:41. | :11:00.
temperatures though, Thursday is the one to watch because it could be the | :11:01. | :11:03.
warmest day of the year so far. We may even see temperatures reaching | :11:04. | :11:04.
the low times, but fairly mild for the time | :11:05. | :11:06.
of year. This stay tuned for the national weather forecasts with John | :11:07. | :11:11.
Hammond. Good evening. Your parents might | :11:12. | :11:14.
have told you once that life 's not fair and they were right. He is the | :11:15. | :11:18.
proof. Over the next few days some of us will enjoy some lovely | :11:19. | :11:21.
sunshine, temperatures in the low 20s. It will feel like early summer. | :11:22. | :11:25.
For others, quite a lot of rain around and it will feel like late | :11:26. | :11:31.
March. This is showers earlier on today and dampness this evening in | :11:32. | :11:34.
the West Country and Wales. That is heading north eastwards. A different | :11:35. | :11:38.
sort of night. A lot of cloud around, quite damp and misty in | :11:39. | :11:42.
places. Cloud cover will prevent temperatures falling much at all. A | :11:43. | :11:47.
much milder my than we have seen recently. Except for the North of | :11:48. | :11:51.
Scotland, but elsewhere in double figures. It will be a | :11:52. | :11:53. |
