Hundreds of people have marched through Hythe today in protest

against plans to build a new garden town and lorry park in the area.

They say the developments will destroy the countryside,

but those backing the schemes argue they will provide much needed homes

The gloomy skies came close to matching the mood amongst some here

today. With plans for thousands of new homes, these residents are

worried about the future. There is going to be a lack of doctors,

schools, public facilities. The roads, there will be congestion on

roads. Is this a case of not in my backyard? It is right in my backyard

and it is part of that but I am more concerned about protecting the

lucky that when we were young we lived in India and travelled and did

a lot of volunteering and that is how we were brought up, in the slums

and helping out in orphanages. It is good to carry on their legacy. I'd
