Good evening. stories on the BBC News Channel.

:00:07.:00:07.

Residents in East Kent were advised to keep their windows

:00:08.:00:10.

and doors shut today, as a huge fire took hold

:00:11.:00:13.

Around 30 firefighters were called to tackle the blaze.

:00:14.:00:17.

This phone footage captures the fire before it was under control.

:00:18.:00:24.

Flames billowing in the wind, black smoke filling the air.

:00:25.:00:30.

It was just plumes of smoke coming from the roof,

:00:31.:00:32.

and after about 20 minutes of the smoke coming out

:00:33.:00:35.

the roof, flames started coming through the tiles.

:00:36.:00:38.

After that, it was all, one after the other,

:00:39.:00:41.

bits of the roof falling down on each other.

:00:42.:00:44.

Shortly before 9am this morning, firefighters were called

:00:45.:00:46.

to the unused Holly Tree pub, a few miles from

:00:47.:00:49.

The blaze started in the roof and quickly spread.

:00:50.:00:54.

As the pub lay empty, no-one was injured.

:00:55.:00:56.

It's not stable, so all the firefighting is happening

:00:57.:00:58.

The high vehicle has the height to get water onto the exposed

:00:59.:01:03.

Northdown Road was cordoned off, as fire crews worked

:01:04.:01:11.

to stop the fire spreading, and they've remained

:01:12.:01:14.

The last pint was pulled here over a year ago and the building has been

:01:15.:01:19.

Fire crews will begin their investigation to find out

:01:20.:01:23.

Briohny Williams, BBC South East Today, Margate.

:01:24.:01:30.

A 17-year-old racing driver from Surrey has been airlifted

:01:31.:01:33.

to hospital after a high-speed crash at Donington Park.

:01:34.:01:35.

Billy Monger from, Charlwood near Gatwick, was taking

:01:36.:01:37.

part in the British Formula 4 Championships - this is the footage

:01:38.:01:41.

from his onboard camera just before the crash into another car

:01:42.:01:48.

He was removed from the car after suffering leg injuries.

:01:49.:01:52.

The driver of the other car was also taken to hospital.

:01:53.:01:55.

Two Russian warships have sailed through the English Channel

:01:56.:01:57.

HMS Sutherland tracked the vessels as they made their way

:01:58.:02:03.

through the North Sea towards the Dover Straits.

:02:04.:02:06.

It's the third time Russian ships have used the Channel in six months.

:02:07.:02:10.

The MP for Dover says authorities in France must prevent another

:02:11.:02:13.

migrant camp from appearing in the Calais area.

:02:14.:02:17.

More than 1000 refugees were displaced when a fire

:02:18.:02:20.

destroyed their camp in nearby Dunkirk last week.

:02:21.:02:24.

In an aid Centre in Calais, the work continues over Easter.

:02:25.:02:30.

The volunteers here no longer provide accommodation,

:02:31.:02:33.

but they do travel to help locations to give out

:02:34.:02:35.

The emergency backpacks that we give out, like I said, are just

:02:36.:02:41.

The destruction of the makeshift camp at Dunkirk displaced

:02:42.:02:46.

large numbers of people, raising fears they may be

:02:47.:02:49.

re-establishing themselves in Calais to target lorries crossing to Kent.

:02:50.:02:55.

We're not talking several thousand, but there is still

:02:56.:02:57.

hundreds of people around, and with the fires,

:02:58.:03:00.

This is the site of the old, notorious Calais Jungle -

:03:01.:03:05.

But, say volunteers, there are still people living rough,

:03:06.:03:11.

playing a game of cat and mouse with the authorities

:03:12.:03:15.

Today, there was no sign of any massive influx

:03:16.:03:22.

of migrants back to Calais, but we did see small

:03:23.:03:24.

groups and individuals and a police presence.

:03:25.:03:26.

Not too much, sometimes 13, sometimes 15.

:03:27.:03:37.

We need to make sure that we nip this in the bud

:03:38.:03:40.

so that we don't start to see repeats of scenes that we saw

:03:41.:03:43.

We fought so long and hard last summer to get rid

:03:44.:03:47.

of the jungle that we cannot risk it returning.

:03:48.:03:49.

That's why it's so important that the French take action

:03:50.:03:52.

A situation which - for now - appears to be under control.

:03:53.:03:56.

Robin Gibson, BBC South East Today, Calais.

:03:57.:04:01.

Now, the weather with Georgina Burnett.

:04:02.:04:05.

Tomorrow should give us some weather to get out and about,

:04:06.:04:09.

but there will be a little bit of wet weather to contend with.

:04:10.:04:12.

Tonight, this rain should be clearing overnight,

:04:13.:04:14.

although some of it will be left behind in the morning.

:04:15.:04:17.

So we are looking at a fairly cloudy night altogether and a cloudy start

:04:18.:04:20.

Some remnants in the morning but also a few showers

:04:21.:04:25.

Some of those could be a little on the heavy side,

:04:26.:04:29.

particularly in the afternoon, but we should have some bright

:04:30.:04:31.

The northerly wind is going to be quite bitter at times.

:04:32.:04:36.

If you are out of the sunshine, it is probably not going to be

:04:37.:04:40.

That goes for much of the week. High pressure in control.

:04:41.:04:44.

It is going to be fairly settled, but some frosty nights to come.

:04:45.:04:55.

That said we will be back in the morning. Goodbye for now.

:04:56.:05:08.

If today's conditions were great and stamp, tomorrow's weather offers

:05:09.:05:14.

more promise, clear

:05:15.:05:15.
