I'm Roger Finn with the news in the south.

60 students at Bournemouth University have been told they have

to pay back thousands of pounds after a miscalculation was made

Now there are fears that many young people could face significant

financial hardships over the coming term.

This student has just completed the first term of her sociology

and criminology degree, but over Christmas

A letter saying her student loan had been calculated

at almost ?3000 too much, and the overpayment will be deducted

from the next two terms' payments, meaning she can only just

I've got assignments that are due in.

You know, I'm trying to make the most of university,

and now I've been told that I've got no money.

So I'm going to have to get a job and spend time doing that.

It's 60 people who are now at University and they haven't got

the money, the safety of having money to look after themselves.

So there's one person is just going to be ?900 this time,

It appears the problem arose when the students were wrongly

registered as studying in London and were therefore

Roisin says students should be given longer to repay the money,

The student loans company says it will work with each student

individually to make appropriate repayment arrangements.

Bournemouth University has told South today that an administrative

error is the root cause of the problem here.

It says that it happened at the course registration

stage of university, and that it's working

with the student loans company to minimise the impact on students.

Dorset Police are appealing for help from the public

to find a man on the run from the Bournemouth area.

Dean Grant is wanted for breaching a restraining order

and on suspicion of threats to kill and criminal damage.

Police have warned the public not to approach him -

but to get in touch by calling 101 or contacting Crimestoppers.
