Tonight on Spotlight, the importance of one of our oldest

:00:00.:00:00.

fishing ports and the benefits to the wider economy.

:00:00.:00:08.

The quay is vital, a vital component of not just

:00:09.:00:11.

the south-west fishing industry, but we can see it as an important

:00:12.:00:14.

But there's disagreement over plans for this fishing quay -

:00:15.:00:22.

the owners would rather invest in shops,

:00:23.:00:24.

We'll take a look at the plans for Plymouth's fishing quay and why

:00:25.:00:31.

there's a difference of opinion over its future.

:00:32.:00:33.

Inside the fire-damaged leisure centre in Exeter.

:00:34.:00:35.

Firefighters show us how the blaze spread through the building,

:00:36.:00:38.

as an investigation is launched into the cause.

:00:39.:00:43.

In the sauna and the health suite area, it's really quite bad, it is

:00:44.:00:51.

burned, the ceiling's down, lots of water, fire and heat damage. In the

:00:52.:00:56.

rest of the building, there's smoke damage throughout but we have tried

:00:57.:00:58.

to keep that to a minimum. Amid intense pressure on the NHS,

:00:59.:00:59.

a brand new intensive care the dog which underwent emergency

:01:00.:01:02.

surgery after swallowing a train. Fishing is one of the south-west's

:01:03.:01:27.

oldest occupations and still After the vote to leave the EU,

:01:28.:01:33.

the industry is now looking for ways to expand one

:01:34.:01:37.

of the country's largest ports. Fishermen say they're pleased

:01:38.:01:40.

Plymouth City Council's draft plan has earmarked the Fish Quay

:01:41.:01:42.

as an area which should be developed But there's still a difference

:01:43.:01:45.

of opinion over what the final plans Adrian Campbell is there for us

:01:46.:02:01.

tonight. The Fish Quay is a very important

:02:02.:02:06.

area, very busy area, not just the local boats but for vessels further

:02:07.:02:10.

afield. We have seen vessels from Lowestoft, also from Scotland, and

:02:11.:02:15.

it is not just busy in the port area, it is also busy on land. A

:02:16.:02:20.

small area, small footprint. There is concern the area isn't big

:02:21.:02:25.

enough. They had ?10 million land of growth here, it is going up to ?20

:02:26.:02:32.

million. There is concerns among the fishermen, they say this land needs

:02:33.:02:35.

to be kept them totally and they feel it is very important they

:02:36.:02:38.

should keep the access here for themselves. It is a very busy port.

:02:39.:02:40.

Plymouth has hundreds of fishing boats coming into port every year.

:02:41.:02:46.

These ones landing scallops are from Brixham.

:02:47.:02:48.

The Fish Quay covers a small area, but it's important to the city

:02:49.:02:51.

Plymouth handles more fish by weight than any other port in England.

:02:52.:02:55.

Plymouth trawler agents auctioned more than ?17 million of fish

:02:56.:02:57.

in 2016 and fishing employs more than 700 people afloat and a further

:02:58.:03:02.

Plymouth trawler agents also act as the market for smaller ports

:03:03.:03:09.

around the south-west, as well as other ports

:03:10.:03:11.

But post-Brexit, south-west fishermen

:03:12.:03:21.

and the owners of the Fish Quay Sutton Harbour Holdings

:03:22.:03:23.

have different ideas about expanding the business.

:03:24.:03:25.

There are two distinct divisions about how the Fish Quay should be

:03:26.:03:28.

Both sides, though, agree on one thing, this area is really important

:03:29.:03:32.

for Plymouth and it needs to be developed very important

:03:33.:03:36.

for Plymouth and it needs to be developed very carefully.

:03:37.:03:39.

As the industry plans for a future outside the European Union,

:03:40.:03:42.

fishermen have put forward their own ambitious ideas to ensure this

:03:43.:03:44.

important part of the city is developed for its industry,

:03:45.:03:47.

rather than shopping, leisure or housing.

:03:48.:03:49.

The leader of the Labour group on the council thinks that should

:03:50.:03:52.

benefit the fishermen, rather than the alternative vision

:03:53.:03:54.

The policy talks about preventing things that are detrimental

:03:55.:03:59.

to the fishing industry and so I guess luxury flats would be

:04:00.:04:03.

detrimental to the fishing industry, rather than places where fishermen

:04:04.:04:10.

could lay up their nets, repair their boats and all the rest

:04:11.:04:13.

of it, so it's not just about tying up alongside and hoping

:04:14.:04:17.

for the best, the quay is vital and a vital component of not just

:04:18.:04:22.

the south-west fishing industry, but we can see it as an important

:04:23.:04:26.

But Sutton Harbour Holdings thinks its proposals are in line

:04:27.:04:32.

with the city council's plan to develop the area

:04:33.:04:35.

for the enhancement of the Fish Quay.

:04:36.:04:39.

What our plans are now is to ensure there is enough footprint available

:04:40.:04:42.

to service the fishing industry going forward.

:04:43.:04:46.

The remaining footprint that is left, which will be partly

:04:47.:04:53.

unused land at the entrance to the complex, will be used

:04:54.:04:55.

for purposes sympathetic to the industry, sympathetic

:04:56.:04:57.

to the area and it will be used to provide funding

:04:58.:05:00.

What kind of things might that be, then?

:05:01.:05:03.

I really can't go into detail on that because

:05:04.:05:06.

The owner of the Fish Quay, Sutton Harbour Holdings,

:05:07.:05:10.

may not be able to explain the details of its plans for now,

:05:11.:05:13.

but the local MP says the zoning of the area is designed

:05:14.:05:16.

Well, it's about protecting the fishing industry and the fishing

:05:17.:05:22.

facilities within the city and that is something

:05:23.:05:27.

which is really important and post Brexit, the fishing community's very

:05:28.:05:33.

keen to make sure they are going to improve the fish taken

:05:34.:05:40.

and all of those kind of things as well, so I'm really delighted

:05:41.:05:44.

that the council have decided to protect all those facilities

:05:45.:05:46.

in Plymouth and right down to Sutton Harbour as well.

:05:47.:05:51.

The city's plan won't be fully ratified for months,

:05:52.:05:53.

but it will affect what happens to this important area

:05:54.:05:56.

The fisheries Minister George Eustice was here just a few days ago

:05:57.:06:07.

and told me that post Brexit, he is very supportive of the idea of

:06:08.:06:11.

growth here. There could be some tussle, though, in the months ahead

:06:12.:06:14.

between what the fishermen want and what the owners of the land think is

:06:15.:06:18.

the best way forward. Thank you, Adrian.

:06:19.:06:19.

Councils in the south-west have condemned the Government's final

:06:20.:06:21.

funding settlement for local authorities, debated

:06:22.:06:23.

Devon County Council leader John Hart -

:06:24.:06:26.

who chairs the South West Councils group - says they are "seriously

:06:27.:06:28.

concerned" and claims "it has totally failed to address the crisis

:06:29.:06:31.

Our Political Editor Martyn Oates joins us now from Westminster.

:06:32.:06:42.

Well, another February, another local government finance settlement

:06:43.:06:47.

and another chorus of disapproval from conservative politicians in the

:06:48.:06:52.

south-west. Amongst them, as you say, the characteristically

:06:53.:06:55.

forthright voice of John Hart, leader of Devon County Council, who

:06:56.:06:59.

as well as being disappointed at the level of funding is very cross this

:07:00.:07:02.

year about the way in which the Government has handled the timing of

:07:03.:07:03.

all of this. When they give us a provisional

:07:04.:07:05.

settlement late and then they give us a final settlement after we have

:07:06.:07:07.

all set our budgets, and we've got to set our budgets

:07:08.:07:11.

because of legal reasons, And then it comes through at 11

:07:12.:07:14.

o'clock at night within 36 hours of it being debated

:07:15.:07:21.

in the House of Commons. What Members of Parliament are

:07:22.:07:24.

actually going to have a clue I am joined by one of the MPs who

:07:25.:07:37.

has had to do her best to work out what it is all about in the time

:07:38.:07:41.

available, and Marie Morris. You are also a vice-chair of the fair share

:07:42.:07:46.

group of MPs which campaigns for better funding for rural areas and

:07:47.:07:51.

you must be very disappointed, like John Hart. I'm very disappointed. We

:07:52.:07:56.

have had so many promises from this government about looking at the

:07:57.:08:00.

inequality between rural and urban and it hasn't delivered and John

:08:01.:08:04.

Wright is absolutely right to be cross because the deal we have got

:08:05.:08:07.

is not fair and frankly not appropriate, given the level of

:08:08.:08:14.

people we have over 85, we have 20% in the west Country. How are we

:08:15.:08:17.

going to fund that with what the Government is doing? They can give

:08:18.:08:20.

us the odd percentage here and they can say we will take it through

:08:21.:08:24.

council tax, but you can only squeeze the pip so far and we in the

:08:25.:08:28.

urban areas are actually paying more council tax than those in urban

:08:29.:08:33.

areas, so we are subsidising what the Government put in any way. But

:08:34.:08:38.

as you and your colleagues reminders so often, we have wall-to-wall

:08:39.:08:42.

Conservative MPs across the south-west, you are there and have

:08:43.:08:45.

this lobbying force in theory but it isn't achieving anything, is it? The

:08:46.:08:50.

answer is that what you achieve is sometimes on the floor of the house

:08:51.:08:55.

and sometimes enclosed doors. A lot of backroom lobbying has gone on as

:08:56.:08:59.

well, but still no result. That is right. I think what you need to do

:09:00.:09:04.

is look at those signals. I abstain tonight. We have heard that before!

:09:05.:09:11.

But I did it. I want to say to the Government, I understand where you

:09:12.:09:14.

tell me you are going but I want you deliver it and see Ukip good your

:09:15.:09:17.

promises and see something in the budget coming up, because why should

:09:18.:09:24.

our tax payers there is a disproportionate share of the burden

:09:25.:09:30.

of social care? -- and see Ukip your promises. Well, on Sunday, we will

:09:31.:09:37.

be discussing this issue on the Sunday Politics.

:09:38.:09:39.

It's something firefighters say they joke about -

:09:40.:09:41.

tackling a fire in a swimming pool next to a river.

:09:42.:09:44.

But Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service says

:09:45.:09:46.

yesterday's blaze at the Riverside Leisure Centre

:09:47.:09:48.

It's revealed that using new water spray technology helped stop

:09:49.:09:54.

the intense fire spreading across the entire building.

:09:55.:09:56.

The fire's believed to have begun in the sauna and today investigators

:09:57.:09:59.

began a detailed search to establish how it started.

:10:00.:10:01.

This is what remains of the Riverside Leisure Centre's

:10:02.:10:08.

health suite, the day after a fire broke out here, prompting

:10:09.:10:11.

In the sauna and the health suite area, it is really quite bad.

:10:12.:10:18.

It has burned the ceilings down, lots of water, fire and heat damage.

:10:19.:10:23.

In the rest of the building, there is smoke damage throughout

:10:24.:10:26.

but we have tried to keep that to a minimum.

:10:27.:10:29.

So there were sort of three lines of attack, really.

:10:30.:10:32.

Firstly to put the fire out in the sauna and the health suite area.

:10:33.:10:35.

And we've had to cut holes in the roof structure to get water

:10:36.:10:43.

mist into the roof space and put the fire out in there.

:10:44.:10:48.

At its height, around 120 firefighters were

:10:49.:10:50.

The Fire Service has now revealed that they were using new technology,

:10:51.:10:57.

a special water misting system which helps them stop

:10:58.:11:03.

what they are calling an intense fire spreading

:11:04.:11:05.

Two people received minor injuries and some of the first emergency

:11:06.:11:09.

crews on the scene feared it could have been much worse.

:11:10.:11:12.

Certainly initially, I had a lot of concerns

:11:13.:11:14.

Clearly, this is a busy city centre location,

:11:15.:11:20.

rush-hour was occurring, it's a swimming pool,

:11:21.:11:21.

A detailed investigation is now under way as to

:11:22.:11:27.

At the moment, leisure centre staff are back in the building behind me

:11:28.:11:33.

I've just been inside to take a look and the smell

:11:34.:11:36.

There's no indication yet when the building

:11:37.:11:39.

Legacy Leisure, which runs the Riverside on behalf

:11:40.:11:44.

of Exeter City Council, said this afternoon that customers

:11:45.:11:49.

would be able to use the facilities at other centres it operates around

:11:50.:11:52.

Exeter, but it said the Riverside would remain closed

:11:53.:11:55.

We're live at a world record attempt later:

:11:56.:12:06.

Right on cue - these pool players are aiming to keep going

:12:07.:12:09.

And the toy train which got stuck in the tunnel of this dog's throat -

:12:10.:12:19.

A brand new ?15 million intensive care unit to treat patients

:12:20.:12:26.

who are critically ill has been officially opened at

:12:27.:12:28.

The project comes as the trust is also looking to close 32 beds

:12:29.:12:34.

in the hospital, but it says this is all part

:12:35.:12:36.

of its plans to provide the best care to patients who need it most.

:12:37.:12:40.

Tucked away in the corner of the brand-new intensive care

:12:41.:12:48.

unit, the last of 100 or so staff were finishing up

:12:49.:12:51.

Just help me with your breathing a bit there, Gary.

:12:52.:12:58.

In shiny new surroundings, with state-of-the-art equipment,

:12:59.:13:02.

A rare good news story about the NHS.

:13:03.:13:11.

There are 14 bays in the new intensive care unit

:13:12.:13:13.

and the first thing you notice is how much lighter and brighter

:13:14.:13:16.

they are, with daylight lighting and so much more space for staff

:13:17.:13:19.

As you can see, it's very clean, it's very bright, we have got top

:13:20.:13:26.

of the range equipment and there is space for them

:13:27.:13:29.

to get on with their job, because you feel very uncomfortable

:13:30.:13:34.

when you're doing things for a patient and you are having

:13:35.:13:36.

to kind of trip over their wife, their mum, saying I'm sorry

:13:37.:13:39.

and you don't want relatives to feel like they are in the way.

:13:40.:13:42.

The hospital's League of friends raise an incredible ?1.6 million

:13:43.:13:45.

The hospital's League of friends raised an incredible ?1.6 million

:13:46.:13:49.

which has helped to pay for much of the top of the range kit and two

:13:50.:13:53.

I'm very proud, actually to be standing here and saying that

:13:54.:13:57.

The trust has effectively borrowed the money to pay

:13:58.:14:00.

for the new facilities at a time when it is also looking to cut

:14:01.:14:03.

costs by closing beds elsewhere in the hospital.

:14:04.:14:06.

In a sense, this is all part of the plan that we described,

:14:07.:14:11.

which is, where possible, we move people's care

:14:12.:14:14.

into the community and provide additional services there.

:14:15.:14:22.

For those people who need to be at the hospital,

:14:23.:14:24.

and there will be fewer of those in the future, we need to provide

:14:25.:14:28.

the highest level of care possible and this is at the very extreme end

:14:29.:14:31.

of that, in the sense that it has the sickest

:14:32.:14:33.

The makeover also includes new reception and cafe areas

:14:34.:14:37.

The ICU is expected to open to patients in June.

:14:38.:14:48.

Yeovil District Hospital has created a private company to carry out

:14:49.:14:51.

It says the new venture, which is part owned by an American

:14:52.:14:57.

company, will reduce waiting lists and cut the number of cancelled

:14:58.:15:00.

operations but the Royal College of Nursing says it's members aren't

:15:01.:15:03.

happy at being transferred from the NHS.

:15:04.:15:05.

Here's our Health correspondent Jenny Walrond.

:15:06.:15:10.

There's a big operation in progress at Yeovil District Hospital.

:15:11.:15:14.

It's starting with a new multistorey car park.

:15:15.:15:18.

And that will allow operations to be carried out on the side

:15:19.:15:21.

of the old car park, a new purpose-built theatres

:15:22.:15:27.

A private company called Daycase UK is due to take

:15:28.:15:34.

over all the hospital's planned day surgery.

:15:35.:15:36.

It's 70% owned by the hospital and 30% owned by an American

:15:37.:15:40.

Doctors working for Daycase will stay within the NHS because it

:15:41.:15:49.

60 nursing and administrative staff are due to be transferred

:15:50.:15:54.

The union representing them isn't happy.

:15:55.:16:00.

I don't think they have to do it at all.

:16:01.:16:03.

The NHS is the best place to have care and the fact that YDH chooses

:16:04.:16:08.

to transfer their care into the private sector isn't

:16:09.:16:11.

necessarily going to be better for patients and I'm absolutely sure

:16:12.:16:14.

The hospital trust says the new theatres and the new company

:16:15.:16:19.

will allow them to keep up with rising demands,

:16:20.:16:22.

use the latest surgical procedures and prevent operations

:16:23.:16:27.

being cancelled when there's pressure on the main hospital.

:16:28.:16:32.

In the past, the department hasn't taken over as

:16:33.:16:35.

In the past, the department has been taken over as

:16:36.:16:37.

an emergency temporary ward, but the Royal College of Nursing's

:16:38.:16:39.

legal team has questioned whether the hospital has complied

:16:40.:16:43.

with rules on competition and procurement and whether it has

:16:44.:16:46.

the authority to create the new company.

:16:47.:16:47.

Yeovil District Hospital insists that it does and says

:16:48.:16:51.

the establishment of Daycase UK, including the procurement process,

:16:52.:16:55.

has been conducted in line with its statutory responsibilities

:16:56.:16:59.

and in the full knowledge of NHS regulators.

:17:00.:17:04.

Yeovil District Hospital says the current staff working in day

:17:05.:17:07.

surgery are at the heart of its plans and many

:17:08.:17:10.

are enthusiastic about these changes, but those who do transfer

:17:11.:17:13.

across to the new company will continue to receive

:17:14.:17:16.

many of the same terms and conditions

:17:17.:17:19.

Now a brief look at some of the other news tonight.

:17:20.:17:28.

The investigation into allegations of financial irregularities

:17:29.:17:31.

against Devon and Cornwall's Police and Crime Commissioner

:17:32.:17:33.

Alison Hernandez is alleged to have failed to properly declare election

:17:34.:17:38.

expenses whilst a Conservative election agent in Torbay in 2015.

:17:39.:17:44.

Archaeologists working on the site of The Royal Clarence Hotel

:17:45.:17:47.

have discovered a rare medieval decoration of a peacock

:17:48.:17:50.

The hotel was gutted by fire last October.

:17:51.:17:55.

Weymouth Beach has been named the best in the UK.

:17:56.:17:59.

The three-mile long stretch of sand was also ranked number nine

:18:00.:18:02.

across the whole of Europe, in reviews posted on the

:18:03.:18:04.

Some say that the ability to play Pool is the sign

:18:05.:18:13.

Some say that the ability to play pool is the sign

:18:14.:18:16.

of a misspent youth, but two Devon men are hoping

:18:17.:18:18.

to prove hanging out in pubs can be a virtue as they attempt to break

:18:19.:18:22.

the Guinness World Record for continuously playing pool.

:18:23.:18:23.

They're raising funds in support of Rowcroft Hospice in Torquay.

:18:24.:18:26.

They started at noon today and hope to break the record on Sunday.

:18:27.:18:30.

Our reporter Johnny Rutherford is with them now.

:18:31.:18:36.

Right on cue! Did someone say cue? I'm not very

:18:37.:18:46.

good ideas. Luckily, it is not me taking the challenge, it is a macro

:18:47.:18:52.

guys here at the pub and they have got to go for 100 hours and more to

:18:53.:18:56.

be at the world record, which was actually set in America. If you look

:18:57.:19:02.

on this screen here that they have constantly running, it says three

:19:03.:19:08.

days, 21 hours, in 11 minutes and 46 seconds. So that is quite some way

:19:09.:19:13.

to go. Let's go across and talk to Darren. Tell me what you're doing.

:19:14.:19:18.

We are raising money for Rowcrofts Hospice, we are up to ?5,000 and

:19:19.:19:22.

counting, we are looking to do over 100 hours continuous play, as I

:19:23.:19:31.

said, in aid of Rowcroft. 100 hours nonstop, do you get a break? We are

:19:32.:19:36.

allowed five minutes per hour, so we are going to bank those five minutes

:19:37.:19:39.

in order to have some kind of sleep and whatnot in the next day or two.

:19:40.:19:45.

And who are you playing against? Graham, the landlord. Who is the

:19:46.:19:52.

best player of the two? Probably me. Sorry about that. That's not what

:19:53.:19:57.

you told me earlier! Coming across to you, you are the landlord and why

:19:58.:20:03.

did you come up with this and why? It was just a chat between myself

:20:04.:20:07.

and Darren, it was Darren's idea and we both thought it was possible. You

:20:08.:20:12.

know, it is a great thing to do for Rowcroft, we wanted to do it for a

:20:13.:20:15.

local charity and it all added up and we have had such great support,

:20:16.:20:19.

as you can see this evening, and it has been constant, trying to do it

:20:20.:20:26.

since last October. It is very official, you have cameras appear

:20:27.:20:29.

showing you are live and everything. If you are going to do it, do it

:20:30.:20:35.

properly! What is worrying is the number of times you are literally

:20:36.:20:38.

bending over, have you got a misuse on stand-by? Yes, my daughter. For

:20:39.:20:48.

real? For real, she is qualified. And someone is witnessing this at

:20:49.:20:52.

all times? We have to have professionals in place because it is

:20:53.:20:58.

a case that the adjudication has to be covered, the video footage has to

:20:59.:21:01.

tie up with the adjudicators and what they say, that is really how it

:21:02.:21:06.

works. We will go across to your wife, the landlady. Carroll, tell

:21:07.:21:11.

me, this is all for a particular reason. Tell me what this is?

:21:12.:21:17.

Basically to raise money for Rowcroft Hospice, a hospice in

:21:18.:21:22.

Torquay that is very dear to locals' hearts and it is very underfunded

:21:23.:21:26.

and threatened with closure. They helped over 200,000 people per year

:21:27.:21:30.

with light limiting illnesses, so it is very important that we keep this

:21:31.:21:34.

Hospice going and get some money in the bank for them. Brilliant. Well,

:21:35.:21:38.

they'll still playing, still a long way to go. Just setting up here

:21:39.:21:43.

ready for the next game. Good luck, guys. Yes, brilliant

:21:44.:21:47.

cause, let's hope they go well with it.

:21:48.:21:49.

I was a bit worried that they had stopped playing very minute there!

:21:50.:21:52.

Now you've heard of dog training treats, but how about this -

:21:53.:21:55.

a dog is recovering at home in Torpoint after somehow

:21:56.:21:58.

eating a train that certainly wasn't a treat.

:21:59.:22:00.

The toy which became a snack only came to light when Cyril

:22:01.:22:02.

He was x-rayed by vets in Plymouth, and happily, the nine-year-old has

:22:03.:22:07.

Why a dog should choose to eat a toy train rather than a conventional

:22:08.:22:13.

But, luckily, he didn't eat that too.

:22:14.:22:20.

He loves to eat and he will eat absolutely anything.

:22:21.:22:24.

He is always hungry, always want biscuits.

:22:25.:22:29.

crisps, sweets, and chocolate but we don't allow it

:22:30.:22:39.

but he would constantly eat if he could.

:22:40.:22:41.

Clearly, Cyril has a good appetite, but there were signals something

:22:42.:22:45.

was wrong and when he fell ill, the Mellors took him to the vet.

:22:46.:22:52.

We checked him over, realised he was unwell,

:22:53.:22:56.

he had stomach pain, so we gave him an anaesthetic

:22:57.:23:02.

and x-rayed him and on the x-ray, we could clearly see of white object

:23:03.:23:06.

We were a bit perplexed as to what it was, we thought it

:23:07.:23:10.

might be a Lego brick or a child's toy or something like that

:23:11.:23:13.

and in fact, it turned out to be a railway carriage.

:23:14.:23:16.

You can just see the wheels on the top of it here.

:23:17.:23:19.

The discovery has brought a whole new meaning

:23:20.:23:23.

After his operation, Cyril's back and full of beans.

:23:24.:23:31.

Meanwhile, lessons have begun on eating a healthy diet.

:23:32.:23:34.

not sure he took that in! C what the weather is doing, with warnings of

:23:35.:23:58.

storms on the way, how will we be affected? We have Doris, you can

:23:59.:24:02.

make all of the Doris Day jokes later that you like, we have had fog

:24:03.:24:06.

today but some have seen sunshine, the strength of the wind has picked

:24:07.:24:10.

up and it has broken up a cloud in places. Tomorrow, we have Doris is

:24:11.:24:14.

starting to move in across the UK, so wet start, a little more

:24:15.:24:30.

sunshine than in recent days but it is the strength of the winds that

:24:31.:24:34.

will be noticeable, 50-60 mph gusts, 70 of the high grounds and some

:24:35.:24:36.

minor disruption could be on the roads. At the moment, we have a

:24:37.:24:39.

westerly airflow, quite a bit of cloud over us but the winds have

:24:40.:24:42.

started to pick up ahead of Doris. Tomorrow, you consider strengths of

:24:43.:24:44.

the winds, heavy rain will clear quite early on forth to most -- most

:24:45.:24:47.

of tomorrow, we should see some sunshine and a much quieter day on

:24:48.:24:50.

Friday. Try and bright, a lot of sunshine with winds, but feeling

:24:51.:24:55.

cool. Saturday, the wind pick-up again, not in association with

:24:56.:24:58.

Doris, but a slightly breezy day. A lot of cloud across the South west

:24:59.:25:02.

today, a few holes given the strength of those winds, but we have

:25:03.:25:06.

a lot of low cloud still out there and we will see further outbreaks of

:25:07.:25:10.

light rain and drizzle overnight. In terms of temperatures, another mild

:25:11.:25:14.

one, down at around nine or 10 degrees. We get the rain quite

:25:15.:25:17.

quickly tomorrow pushing in from the west so for most of the day, dry

:25:18.:25:22.

with a lot of sunshine. The peak of the winds during the middle part of

:25:23.:25:25.

the day and early afternoon and we can see 50-60 mph gusts, particular

:25:26.:25:29.

across the coast of Devon and Cornwall and over higher ground. So

:25:30.:25:34.

don't be fooled, we see sunshine and mild temperatures, offset by the

:25:35.:25:37.

strength of the winds, highs of nine or 10 degrees. The Isles of Scilly

:25:38.:25:41.

will get the rain early on, so for a good part of the day, it will be

:25:42.:25:44.

bright and the winds will be strong, Gale force at times. Here are the

:25:45.:25:53.

times of high water. In terms of surfing, we recommend heading to the

:25:54.:25:56.

coast tomorrow, particularly the north coast of Devon and Cornwall,

:25:57.:25:59.

they will see some fairly big waves, less so towards the South coach. --

:26:00.:26:05.

coast. The coastal waters forecast, the winds will come around to a

:26:06.:26:08.

north-westerly direction towards the tail end of the day and they will

:26:09.:26:12.

increase. Some rain first thing but the bulk of the day should be dry

:26:13.:26:16.

with some sunshine and visibility will be good. So we have been

:26:17.:26:20.

talking about Doris all week and that will hit as tomorrow. The winds

:26:21.:26:23.

are already starting to pick up. We will see heavy rain during the

:26:24.:26:27.

morning between six and eight, the heaviest of the rain, so

:26:28.:26:31.

mid-morning, most of seeing dry and bright weather and the winds start

:26:32.:26:34.

to pick up coming in from the north-west, Gale force at times and

:26:35.:26:38.

they will fairly strong throughout the day, only easing as we go

:26:39.:26:41.

through the night. That does mean on Friday a much quieter day and we

:26:42.:26:45.

will see the winds ease, cooler and temperatures dropping but more in

:26:46.:26:48.

the way our sunshine. The winds pick up as we head towards the weekend,

:26:49.:26:52.

nothing to out of the ordinary and while we were see a lot of cloud,

:26:53.:26:55.

you can see temperatures recovering so once again returning to more mild

:26:56.:26:59.

weather. Thank you. So, tonight, we met Cyril

:27:00.:27:04.

the dog survivor and now it is over two dogs you couldn't survive

:27:05.:27:08.

without. Thank you for all of your e-mails and pictures about dogs with

:27:09.:27:11.

jobs. We are featuring some of your stories over the coming weeks and in

:27:12.:27:15.

the meantime, here are a few of your dogs with incredibly important jobs.

:27:16.:27:16.

From all of us here, good night. Good job, guys.

:27:17.:27:22.

We totally nailed it. This year, fundraising kits are

:27:23.:27:55.

going to be sent through the post.

:27:56.:28:00.
