strengthen the country's air defence systems. That is all from us.

:00:00.:00:00.

Discovered by builders, the unexploded ordnance was cordoned

:00:00.:00:30.

off to allow a bomb disposal team to deal with it.

:00:31.:00:36.

And I'm at a South Devon cider Orchard, discussing Government plans

:00:37.:00:40.

which could see a tax hike slapped on

:00:41.:00:43.

Devon and Somerset's traditional tipple.

:00:44.:00:47.

And there's hardly a cloud in the sky right across

:00:48.:00:49.

The good news is it stays like that through the weekend

:00:50.:00:53.

The number of young people in the south-west who've been

:00:54.:01:19.

admitted to hospital for self-harming

:01:20.:01:21.

rose by almost two thirds in five years.

:01:22.:01:24.

In the year 2015-16 there were more than 1700 patients

:01:25.:01:27.

One charity that supports young people with mental health problems

:01:28.:01:33.

says parents and schools need to be aware of the impact of social media

:01:34.:01:37.

Our health correspondent Jenny Walrond has been to meet

:01:38.:01:42.

the parent of a girl who started self harming when she was 12.

:01:43.:01:48.

Tina Mitchell's daughter Zoe began cutting herself

:01:49.:01:59.

when she was being bullied at school.

:02:00.:02:01.

Her problems have since escalated into multiple suicide attempts.

:02:02.:02:06.

Just after her 14th birthday, she took her first overdose.

:02:07.:02:11.

In four years, we've had between 30, 35 admissions

:02:12.:02:15.

to hospital for suicide attempts, self harm,

:02:16.:02:20.

Figures that the BBC have obtained through a Freedom of Information

:02:21.:02:30.

request, show that in many of our hospitals in recent years,

:02:31.:02:34.

there has been an increase in the number of teenagers who have

:02:35.:02:38.

In the 2011-12 financial year, 1088 young people

:02:39.:02:46.

aged between 12 and 18 were admitted to hospital

:02:47.:02:49.

Five years later, that figure had risen to 1781,

:02:50.:02:57.

A Cornwall-based charity that supports young people with mental

:02:58.:03:07.

health problems has also noticed an increase and has called

:03:08.:03:10.

for better advice online for people considering self harming

:03:11.:03:14.

and warned of the impact of social media can have.

:03:15.:03:18.

Social media bullying needs to be carefully controlled and acted

:03:19.:03:21.

upon maybe by schools and parents too,

:03:22.:03:24.

to make sure that that teenager isn't actually

:03:25.:03:28.

at the sort of beck and call

:03:29.:03:30.

of some really harassing and upsetting information

:03:31.:03:32.

And Zoe and her family still need help and live with constant anxiety.

:03:33.:03:39.

The worst time is when I have to go and knock on her door

:03:40.:03:43.

in the morning, because I don't honestly know

:03:44.:03:46.

I don't know if my daughter is going to be alive or dead.

:03:47.:03:56.

There was a rather unusual attraction on the esplanade

:03:57.:03:59.

at Woolacombe today following the discovery

:04:00.:04:01.

A 100-metre cordon was placed around the suspect device

:04:02.:04:05.

after it was uncovered by contractors working there.

:04:06.:04:09.

As Janine Jansen reports, amidst the holiday-makers and sunshine,

:04:10.:04:12.

the bomb disposal team were also called to the beach.

:04:13.:04:20.

You just never know when one's going to turn up. At ten o'clock this

:04:21.:04:26.

morning, workmen renovating this house dug up an old US landmine.

:04:27.:04:33.

Police set up a 100 metre accordance on Esplanade Road in Woolacombe. The

:04:34.:04:38.

MOD bomb disposal team then carefully moved the World War II

:04:39.:04:42.

device down to the beach. After careful preparation, it was safely

:04:43.:04:52.

blown up. I thought nothing was going to happen, so I was about to

:04:53.:04:55.

ask if we could leave and it just went off and it really scared me.

:04:56.:05:00.

How that was it? It was quite loud. What did you think of it? Very good,

:05:01.:05:07.

and I liked the bit where there was a Big Bang. I like big bangs because

:05:08.:05:17.

I like crisps. About five stories worth of sound, I guess. It was

:05:18.:05:22.

really cool! I didn't imagine to bring the bomb down from there to

:05:23.:05:26.

the beach to set it off, but I'm glad we got to see it. It was cool,

:05:27.:05:30.

very good. It was amazing to watch, but then you start thinking, crikey,

:05:31.:05:34.

people had to hear that all the time. It really went into your

:05:35.:05:39.

chest, the big boom, didn't it? The holiday-makers will certainly have

:05:40.:05:44.

plenty to talk about but the server seemed oblivious to all the

:05:45.:05:45.

excitement. -- these surfers. Now a round-up of other stories

:05:46.:05:49.

making the news in the South West. Police in Cornwall are searching

:05:50.:05:54.

for a teenage boy who's been missing Steven Parr, who's 15

:05:55.:05:57.

and from St Austell, He has links with

:05:58.:06:00.

Bodmin and Plymouth. Plans for a ?4 million whisky

:06:01.:06:04.

distillery on Dartmoor have been approved

:06:05.:06:06.

by the National Park. worried about the cultural

:06:07.:06:08.

and environmental impact. Others backed Princetown

:06:09.:06:13.

Distilleries plan saying it A beach in Cornwall,

:06:14.:06:16.

next to a harbour featured has been closed for the foreseeable

:06:17.:06:21.

future after a rock fall. Tonnes of rock fell on to East Beach

:06:22.:06:25.

in Charlestown on Wednesday. Traditional cider makers

:06:26.:06:31.

in the South West fear they could be hit with tax increases as a result

:06:32.:06:37.

of new government proposals to tackle the abuse of cheap,

:06:38.:06:40.

high-alcohol brands. Cider making is part

:06:41.:06:44.

of the region's heritage, particularly in Devon and Somerset,

:06:45.:06:46.

and is enjoying a modern revival. The government says it appreciates

:06:47.:06:51.

the important role artisan cider makers play in the rural

:06:52.:06:54.

economy and doesn't want them to suffer as the result of

:06:55.:06:58.

any changes, but cider makers fear it

:06:59.:07:00.

won't be that simple. Here's our political

:07:01.:07:03.

editor Martyn Oates. Not for the first time, the

:07:04.:07:16.

Government has cheap, strong blues in its sights. A mass produced a

:07:17.:07:20.

high-strength white cider is associated by public health

:07:21.:07:23.

organisations with problem drinking. But a side with 7.5% alcohol

:07:24.:07:27.

attracts the same level of duty as one with just 1.2%. The Government's

:07:28.:07:33.

now considering a duty increase for the upper end of that range. Cider

:07:34.:07:38.

making is a broad church. We are just showing up some bag and box

:07:39.:07:42.

today that will be dispatched its from this week. The Treasury also

:07:43.:07:46.

says it wants to avoid any impact on traditional cider makers like this

:07:47.:07:52.

one. Decided that we make up, bass draught cider, probably has 15 or 20

:07:53.:07:57.

varieties of apples in it. This white cider would be regarded by

:07:58.:08:01.

Artisan cider makers as very different from the products they

:08:02.:08:07.

make, but there is one obvious similarity, the strength, alcohol

:08:08.:08:10.

content, is 7.5%. If you look at this partisan side from a well-known

:08:11.:08:16.

Somerset producer, the strength is 7.4. The strongest cider made here

:08:17.:08:21.

is still a hefty 6.5 and traditionally, English cider tends

:08:22.:08:25.

to be pretty potent. So it's difficult to see how, if the

:08:26.:08:29.

Government increases duty based on strength alone, it can avoid

:08:30.:08:35.

clobbering places like this as well. But could be solution perhaps lie

:08:36.:08:40.

here in the orchard. After all, Artisan cider makers say it's the

:08:41.:08:44.

high apple juice content which makes their cider special. I'm just

:08:45.:08:49.

suggesting that you could invoke a percentage, a minimal percentage of

:08:50.:08:53.

apple juice in your cider. At the moment, I'm saying it's very, very

:08:54.:08:57.

low. It could be raised up. That would protect our interests and that

:08:58.:09:02.

would make the mass-produce Dwight Speight is more expensive to

:09:03.:09:07.

produce? Yes. Cider makers have until June to make this or other

:09:08.:09:09.

suggestions to the Government. Now, most of us give up

:09:10.:09:10.

chocolate or wine for Lent, but you may remember us telling

:09:11.:09:13.

you about one vicar from Devon who decided he'd give up the comfort

:09:14.:09:16.

of his own bed and sleep rough. Yes, Father Gary Deighton,

:09:17.:09:19.

who's the vicar of St George's in Goodrington, wanted

:09:20.:09:22.

to raise money and awareness Well with a busy Easter week

:09:23.:09:24.

approaching, tonight is his last night on the streets

:09:25.:09:26.

and Spotlight's Andrea Ormsby's You can see now the joys

:09:27.:09:30.

of the tarpaulin under which I'll be sleeping and obviously,

:09:31.:09:38.

the sign, "The vicarage." The kind of vicarage

:09:39.:09:43.

outpost, really. The video diary of a

:09:44.:09:47.

vicar on the streets. It's going to be a bit

:09:48.:09:49.

rough tonight and I think these things are going to be

:09:50.:09:52.

blowing a bit, but I do have a very salubrious bedroom, which

:09:53.:09:56.

I'm going to show you now. A brand-new cardboard

:09:57.:09:58.

box, pillow in place, I just hope it doesn't

:09:59.:10:05.

rattle about too much. Should be a good

:10:06.:10:11.

night's sleep though. I think we've both reached

:10:12.:10:13.

the point now where We were out the other

:10:14.:10:15.

night and we didn't And now we're enjoying

:10:16.:10:21.

ourselves even less. I've, for the last week,

:10:22.:10:26.

had a permanent headache and I don't know, I just seem very distant

:10:27.:10:32.

from what's going on. For more than five weeks now,

:10:33.:10:35.

father Gary Deighton Of course, it's terrible

:10:36.:10:38.

being in here on my own. but he doesn't hold

:10:39.:10:59.

back on the ordeal. It's been much worse

:11:00.:11:04.

than I thought it was going to be. I thought the real issue would be

:11:05.:11:08.

the cold and the wet, and the cold and the wet is bad,

:11:09.:11:11.

but actually what's really bad is just the kind of low

:11:12.:11:14.

level of fear you've got. Any noise, any tin can,

:11:15.:11:17.

any whistling in the wind and straightaway, you're

:11:18.:11:23.

alert and worried And that kind of just builds up

:11:24.:11:26.

the sleep deprivation really until you get to the point

:11:27.:11:30.

where you're just too tired to do anything

:11:31.:11:33.

and you don't actually care about anything very

:11:34.:11:35.

much after a while. The symbolism of

:11:36.:11:37.

Ash Wednesday started this Lent mission and harsh reality

:11:38.:11:39.

is ending it a week early. Well, we go into Holy Week,

:11:40.:11:46.

which is the week before Easter and that's kind

:11:47.:11:48.

of very full on, really. And I'm just not in

:11:49.:11:51.

a fit state to do that, really, to give the attention that

:11:52.:11:55.

I need to give to that week and to give to people

:11:56.:11:58.

that I'll meet during that week. Do you regret your

:11:59.:12:01.

decision to do this? I don't regret it,

:12:02.:12:03.

but next Lent, Football, rugby, horse racing and

:12:04.:12:22.

swimming in the sport. And join me later on in the programme when I'm

:12:23.:12:26.

here at Swamp Circus, trying my hand at circus skills. I'm not doing

:12:27.:12:28.

that! And join me and Majic as we try

:12:29.:12:30.

and raise funds to save his sight. It's time for the sport now

:12:31.:12:40.

and Andy's here ahead It's Grand National weekend

and everybody, you know. It's such a big race

:13:29.:13:31.

and, you know, I've had runners so it would be a dream

come true, really. Jockey Tom Scudamore

:13:36.:13:39.

will be on board tomorrow. He's never finished

:13:40.:13:49.

better than eighth in the National, but he is from

a famous racing family. His grandfather Michael rode

dad, myself and my brother, you know, we've probably had 40 goes

:14:07.:14:09.

between us, and we've only got one on the board so far, so, look,

:14:10.:14:13.

it would be wonderful to do. You know, he's a young

into it a little bit more relaxed. You know, my father won

are propping up the table. The Chiefs ran in five tries

when the sides met earlier in the season and on Saturday

:15:44.:15:46.

the visitors return to Sandy Park for the first time since losing

the Championship play-off in 2010. That's maybe a wee bit

:15:50.:15:53.

down the line now. Both clubs are in two completely

:15:54.:15:55.

different positions and, you know, obviously, Bristol

at Plymouth Leander and on Sunday the swimmers will get the chance

:16:25.:16:29.

to impress their new head coach when they compete

:16:30.:16:32.

in the League Cup Final in Cardiff. It's the first time Robin Armayan

:16:33.:16:36.

has led the team on the big stage since taking over the top job

:16:37.:16:39.

from Jon Rudd earlier this year. All good things must come to an end

:16:40.:16:43.

and in November, after 27 years coaching swimming in

:16:44.:16:46.

Plymouth, John Rudd announced he was leaving

:16:47.:16:48.

the city. The highlight of his tenure

:16:49.:16:52.

has to be the partnership with Ruta Meilutyte,

which saw the Lithuanian The club are sticking

with what they know by installing Rudd's former assistant

:16:57.:17:01.

as the new head coach. It may sound like a bit

:17:02.:17:04.

of a funny question, but are you quite pleased

:17:05.:17:06.

that John has gone? No, I think, you know,

:17:07.:17:08.

having John around was great. But at the same time,

:17:09.:17:11.

you know, I would be lying if I didn't say it was a great

:17:12.:17:19.

opportunity for me. His turn and his way

:17:20.:17:21.

of doing things. These things don't happen

:17:22.:17:28.

overnight, you know. To actually have a positive

:17:29.:17:36.

impact, a long-term impact on this club,

:17:37.:17:38.

it will take me a few years. And having the backing of his star

:17:39.:17:40.

performers can only help. Like, it's been a great transition,

:17:41.:17:43.

I think, between having John leave and have Robin

:17:44.:17:50.

step into his position. Being in an environment

:17:51.:17:53.

that is produced and Olympic gold medallist sort of

:17:54.:17:55.

brings out the best out of everyone If the programme can produce

:17:56.:17:57.

that, then other people can produce that

:17:58.:18:01.

within the programme. With a number of swimmers heading

:18:02.:18:04.

to the British championships in a fortnight, Robin

:18:05.:18:07.

will still have a better idea of how likely any future Olympic

:18:08.:18:10.

medals might be. That's all the sport and it's now

:18:11.:18:15.

time to join Justin and Victoria who've made their way outside

:18:16.:18:20.

to enjoy the sunshine. Thank you very much. Yes, the

:18:21.:18:31.

sunshine, very still, lovely evening.

:18:32.:18:35.

It's freezing! We've come outside with a very

:18:36.:18:39.

special reason. That noise you just heard is Majic the eagle owl, and we

:18:40.:18:43.

will find out more about Majic in a moment because he has a bit of an

:18:44.:18:45.

eyesight problem. However, there is lots of stuff

:18:46.:18:49.

going on around the region in the run-up to Easter. We would send BBC

:18:50.:18:54.

radio Cornwall's David White to be circus to burn a few extra skills.

:18:55.:19:02.

David. Yes. Now, honestly, you didn't think this was going to be me

:19:03.:19:07.

up here, did you? Thank you, Rachel. That is Rachel who was part of Swamp

:19:08.:19:10.

Circus down here. Lots of circus skills going on. I can roll a hip,

:19:11.:19:15.

look at that. There is magic going on here. There is the nap on this

:19:16.:19:20.

thankfully not so high wire. How are you doing? You stay on there! We've

:19:21.:19:27.

got some little BB trampolines here and this is all happening under the

:19:28.:19:30.

artistic direction of Brett Jackson who is here from Swamp Circus. What

:19:31.:19:35.

is going on? Welcome indeed do swap circus. Easter in the cultural

:19:36.:19:43.

centre here in Cornwall, busy partnership between the circus and

:19:44.:19:45.

the environmental Centre and the circus runs circus will throughout

:19:46.:19:50.

Cornwall so we have seven different clubs that happen every week

:19:51.:19:53.

throughout Cornwall. We have a circus school where people can get a

:19:54.:19:57.

GCSE equivalent in circus skills which is pretty amazing. And lots of

:19:58.:20:02.

stuff going on this weekend? Lots of workshop for the book and words. It

:20:03.:20:09.

took me forever to do that! We have trapeze, real juggling, some

:20:10.:20:14.

tumbling going on some tumblers. Trampolines. And we teach balancing

:20:15.:20:21.

and the big thing at the moment is physical literacy, so we have a new

:20:22.:20:25.

Morrissey and literacy and what we are teaching is young people today

:20:26.:20:29.

needing to learn about physical literacy. That is sort of PE, I

:20:30.:20:33.

suppose, in all times. That is how to use your body because everyone's

:20:34.:20:37.

on a screen a lot of the time, so we need to train them up. Chuck if you

:20:38.:20:45.

balls around. Yes, it's really good. Brett Jackson, the director here at

:20:46.:20:51.

Swamp Circus. There is lots of stuff happening here and around the region

:20:52.:20:54.

as well. There are events to tell you about in Cornwall. First of all,

:20:55.:21:02.

the arts and craft Spring fair. The Easter fair at the Saint Austell is

:21:03.:21:06.

happening at the Merlin MS Centre tomorrow. Then in Devon, the April

:21:07.:21:10.

dogs there is happening at all can beach. This features races and an

:21:11.:21:15.

agility fair. Then on Saturday, is sponsored abseil at the Torbay

:21:16.:21:19.

Hospital maternity unit in aid of the breast care unit. 1pm on

:21:20.:21:24.

Saturday, please tell me somebody is going to be dressed as Spiderman!

:21:25.:21:30.

That would be absently wonderful. That's about it from here at the

:21:31.:21:34.

Swamp Circus. I am off to grab a leotard and I would have a go at

:21:35.:21:45.

this, maybe. Magic going on there in Cornwall, Majic going on here in the

:21:46.:21:51.

garden. With us is his handler, mind for the night, Julie. Tel is a bit

:21:52.:21:56.

about Majic. Majic is a Western Siberian eagle owl. He is just

:21:57.:22:01.

coming up two years old. Sadly, he has congenital cataracts, so he is

:22:02.:22:07.

losing sight. How common is that in birds are owls? Very rare, actually.

:22:08.:22:12.

You do not see it often at also we are very lucky that he has them.

:22:13.:22:16.

Particularly given how young he is, so it really is a shame. What is

:22:17.:22:20.

going to happen now? You are trying to raise money for an operation for

:22:21.:22:24.

him. We are. We are trying to raise funds to give him a sight saving

:22:25.:22:28.

operation. Cataracts can be removed, but obviously it is very specialised

:22:29.:22:33.

with him being a bird of prey and anaesthetic is very challenging and

:22:34.:22:38.

NEI operation on an animal is quite specialised to, so we are trying to

:22:39.:22:41.

raise funds to give him the sight saving operation. Tell us about him,

:22:42.:22:45.

he is a magnificent bird. What does he eat? In the wild he would eat

:22:46.:22:49.

anything up to the size of a fox or a roadie. He's very capable and

:22:50.:22:54.

would be a very capable hunter. With us, he has anything from the old

:22:55.:22:58.

chips to mice, rats, quail, rabbit. He has a very tired. Elsewhere he

:22:59.:23:04.

has his eye on you, by the look of it. What is his day to day routine

:23:05.:23:10.

then? Use part of our collection at the Bird of prey Centre. We use of

:23:11.:23:14.

flying displays, horses and experience with him. He is a very

:23:15.:23:18.

friendly bird. He loves me be centre of attention. Given how beautiful he

:23:19.:23:22.

is, he is quite a draw. People love to see him in the air. Given that

:23:23.:23:27.

his eyesight is failing, it is just a lot more challenging for him and

:23:28.:23:32.

he could live to well over 40,. So it will be worth it if you get the

:23:33.:23:36.

money? Very much so. He is only to Mac now, so he has plenty of time.

:23:37.:23:43.

We wish you and him well. Thank you very much for bringing him in.

:23:44.:23:47.

Absolutely stunning, isn't he? Very beautiful. Thank you for having us.

:23:48.:23:53.

As we said, it is a beautiful evening here so Dan is on the roof

:23:54.:23:57.

with the weather forecast. Good thing I put on the factor 30.

:23:58.:24:06.

You need it with a built-in solar panel like me! Let's take a look at

:24:07.:24:10.

what has been happening today. Blue skies in Plymouth, a bit hazy but

:24:11.:24:15.

blue sky right across the South West today. If we take a look at some

:24:16.:24:19.

pictures from earlier today, I think we can start off in Staverton on the

:24:20.:24:24.

South Devon where way. One of my other passions, steam trains, blue

:24:25.:24:27.

skies here and I think it will be quite warm on the footplate over the

:24:28.:24:34.

weekend. Off Cornwall next. He also blue skies through the day. Still

:24:35.:24:38.

needing a wet suit, I think, if you plan to go into the sea. The sea

:24:39.:24:42.

temperature only around 10 Celsius. Finally on our trip, let's head down

:24:43.:24:47.

to Torquay, children here taking advantage of the centre over the

:24:48.:24:51.

Easter break. So, also looking at some of your pictures if we animate

:24:52.:24:56.

back, I think we can see some of your weather watcher pictures.

:24:57.:25:00.

Starting in the east of our region, this is Dorchester in Dorset. Blue

:25:01.:25:05.

skies here. Popping to the west to Newquay, hardly a cloud in the sky

:25:06.:25:08.

here as well over the Channel Islands to, it is a blue skies,

:25:09.:25:13.

hardly any clout here. For the weekend, looking very similar. Fine

:25:14.:25:18.

and dry. For the sunshine, and it will feel warmer. A few degrees

:25:19.:25:21.

warmer than it has over the past couple of days to as we have warm

:25:22.:25:27.

air drying up from the south. On the satellite, you can see hardly a

:25:28.:25:30.

cloud and the clout that we can see in an arc shape over the top of the

:25:31.:25:33.

UK is around an area of high pressure. That is still with us into

:25:34.:25:37.

the weekend. Slowly ebbing away to the east during the course of the

:25:38.:25:41.

weekend, but I think it should hold things stable into Sunday. Another

:25:42.:25:45.

fine day. We start to see a cold front pushing in from the north and

:25:46.:25:52.

that is with us on Monday, turning things rather cloudy and cooler

:25:53.:25:54.

again. Temperatures near to where they should be for this time of

:25:55.:25:58.

year. One or two showers, but for most it should stay dry. Here is

:25:59.:26:01.

what is going on through the weekend. Warm air coming up from the

:26:02.:26:06.

south, keeping things much drier and settled. And as we look at the

:26:07.:26:11.

satellite picture, hardly any clout in the sky as we go into this

:26:12.:26:16.

evening, so overnight, it will turn rather chilly. Fairly light winds

:26:17.:26:21.

too. We will see missed and fog forming tonight, particularly

:26:22.:26:24.

further east and our temperatures falling to those of perhaps two or

:26:25.:26:29.

three Celsius in rural parts saw the chance of Apache ground frost here.

:26:30.:26:31.

Another chilly start of the day tomorrow. Miss and fog around but it

:26:32.:26:37.

should burn away fairly quickly and then a fine break today. Sunshine

:26:38.:26:41.

around and feeling a bit warmer than it has during today. I think we can

:26:42.:26:46.

see temperatures hitting 18 or maybe 19 Celsius in some sunnier spots

:26:47.:26:50.

away from the breeze. The Isles of Scilly also seeing a fine day.

:26:51.:26:54.

Bright and try with sunny spells. It is cooler here due to the sea

:26:55.:26:59.

breezes. High now coming in during the night and then again tomorrow

:27:00.:27:03.

afternoon between 4pm and six o'clock. Not a great deal in terms

:27:04.:27:07.

of service rendered. Perhaps two or three feet if are lucky and clean

:27:08.:27:17.

waves. Coastal waters, occasionally forced five. Fine, good visibility.

:27:18.:27:21.

The chance it may turn a bit poorer in any fog patches and injury, the

:27:22.:27:26.

going is good. Dry and bright. The outlook, as I say, fine weather into

:27:27.:27:30.

Sunday but turning cloudier and collate from Monday onwards. Back to

:27:31.:27:34.

you on the ground. A wonderful weekend on score. Have a

:27:35.:27:43.

lovely weekend, good night.
