Good evening. where you are.

:00:12.:00:12.

In the next hour, a man from Torquay, who was shot in the head

:00:13.:00:15.

during a robbery at his parents' restaurant in Antigua,

:00:16.:00:17.

37-year-old Christopher Tester was wounded in the attack

:00:18.:00:21.

on Christmas Day whilst trying to protect his mother.

:00:22.:00:24.

The Learjet he is being flown home on is due to land at Exeter.

:00:25.:00:27.

When the Learjet lands at Exeter Airport in just

:00:28.:00:33.

over an hour's time, a family friend has told us that

:00:34.:00:36.

Chris Tester will be flown by air ambulance here to Derriford Hospital

:00:37.:00:40.

There is a chance that the plane might land at Southampton Airport

:00:41.:00:45.

instead due to logistical reasons, but that decision will

:00:46.:00:48.

Now, family friend Charlotte Williams has told us that Chris's

:00:49.:00:53.

He has been taken out of the induced coma

:00:54.:00:58.

All of this is obviously costing a lot and Chris had no insurance.

:00:59.:01:07.

A crowdfunding page which was set up raised over ?103,000

:01:08.:01:13.

to pay for these costs and as to what happened,

:01:14.:01:17.

we understand that Chris interrupted the robbery

:01:18.:01:19.

His parents were in the middle of handing over cash.

:01:20.:01:24.

He went to shield his mum and that was when he was shot in the head.

:01:25.:01:33.

Two brand new villages are to be built in Devon and Cornwall in plans

:01:34.:01:36.

which have been signed off by the government today.

:01:37.:01:38.

The so-called Garden Villages are proposals to tackle a housing

:01:39.:01:41.

shortage, with Taunton also set to see its community expand.

:01:42.:01:45.

The plans include 1,500 homes at West Carclaze near St Austell,

:01:46.:01:49.

5,000 homes next to the M5 at Cullompton, and 8,000 homes

:01:50.:01:53.

The government is providing ?6 million nationally

:01:54.:02:00.

to develop the proposals, but, as John Henderson reports,

:02:01.:02:02.

they'll still have to get planning permission.

:02:03.:02:08.

Moss and heather and not a backyard in sight,

:02:09.:02:12.

but soon there could be 1,500 back gardens here as this barren

:02:13.:02:17.

The housing area will go adjacent to the main road,

:02:18.:02:25.

along the strip here with the school behind behind the Sky Tip,

:02:26.:02:29.

which will be retained as part of the extensive heritage park.

:02:30.:02:32.

This is West Carclaze of old, in the hey day

:02:33.:02:35.

Today, all that's left are ponds, scrubland and towering waste heaps.

:02:36.:02:42.

Some feared it would disappear in the scheme.

:02:43.:02:47.

It is a fundamental part of the plan and it will remain as part

:02:48.:02:52.

People were concerned about when the school

:02:53.:02:56.

We said it would be developed right from the very start,

:02:57.:03:00.

People were concerned about employment.

:03:01.:03:02.

There are now plans in place for an employment park,

:03:03.:03:04.

which has now got European funding, so that is good news.

:03:05.:03:08.

We have tried to look at all the aspects that

:03:09.:03:10.

people have been concerned about and try to address them

:03:11.:03:12.

It is not the only garden village planned for the region.

:03:13.:03:17.

Combe in Devon, alongside the M5, will effectively see

:03:18.:03:20.

It's near a motorway, it's near a railway line.

:03:21.:03:25.

If you are going to have growth and improvements to towns and areas,

:03:26.:03:31.

these are the best sort of places to put them.

:03:32.:03:34.

There will be a garden town near Taunton.

:03:35.:03:36.

This is what that development looks like.

:03:37.:03:39.

These are the plans for Cornwall's Garden Village.

:03:40.:03:42.

There have been plans for homes on these old China clay pits

:03:43.:03:45.

for the best part of ten years, but this Garden Village idea now

:03:46.:03:49.

has government backing, but that doesn't mean to say

:03:50.:03:51.

It still needs planning permission and that will give

:03:52.:03:55.

Patients undergoing cataract surgery at the Royal Eye Infirmary

:03:56.:04:06.

at Derriford Hospital can now benefit from a new

:04:07.:04:09.

It's only available in a few centres around the world and is operated

:04:10.:04:15.

by foot showing the surgeon exactly where to cut.

:04:16.:04:21.

Well, it obviously makes my job less difficult and the results

:04:22.:04:25.

for the patients are more standardised and hopefully

:04:26.:04:28.

the outcomes will be better and they can see much better,

:04:29.:04:31.

more quickly and hopefully less reliant on thicker glasses

:04:32.:04:35.

Just time for a look at the weather forecast with Ian ferguson.

:04:36.:04:42.

particularly up towards north and eastern parts

:04:43.:04:47.

we see a Met Office warning for parts of east and north-east

:04:48.:04:51.

Devon, Somerset and Dorset where

:04:52.:04:54.

temperatures will be dropping easily low enough with some more frost

:04:55.:04:57.

around to give a threat of some more slippery surfaces.

:04:58.:05:01.

Temperatures widly getting down to freezing or

:05:02.:05:04.

below in these districts and in some areas,

:05:05.:05:06.

Yeovil Town, for example, we

:05:07.:05:08.

Not so down towards the very south-west nor indeed out towards

:05:09.:05:12.

Could be the odd patch of freezing fog around

:05:13.:05:15.

tomorrow, most areas could be clear of that.

:05:16.:05:17.

A good deal of sunshine through the course of the morning

:05:18.:05:20.

and then a general trend to see a bit more

:05:21.:05:22.

cloud around, albeit in a

:05:23.:05:23.

patchy fashion throughout the afternoon, but eventually by the

:05:24.:05:26.

tail end of the day, thicker cloud is coming in from the north.

:05:27.:05:29.

It could conceivably bring a few spots

:05:30.:05:30.

of light rain starting to get into the likes of Exmoor.

:05:31.:05:33.

Temperatures tomorrow eventually getting as high

:05:34.:05:35.

as 6-8 Celsius for the majority of us and through the rest

:05:36.:05:38.

but the first appreciable rain comes Friday.

:05:39.:05:42.

More on your BBC local radio station tomorrow morning. From all of us

:05:43.:05:53.

here, good night. Good evening. It's been a dry and

:05:54.:06:08.

bright day across most parts of the country today. Despite the chilly

:06:09.:06:12.

feel to the weather, there has been some sunshine. Clear skies as the

:06:13.:06:22.

sun set in east Essex. With those clear skies around, temperatures are

:06:23.:06:25.

plummeting, particularly across southern parts. Here we see the

:06:26.:06:28.

coldest temperatures. We could see icy stretches on untreated surfaces,

:06:29.:06:32.

pavements and roads first thing Tuesday morning. Not quite as cold

:06:33.:06:37.

towards the North West. Cloud moving in here through the overnight

:06:38.:06:38.

period.

:06:39.:06:40.
