Hello. Over the week ahead, the jet stream will be

0:00:030:00:05

in a different position.

0:00:050:00:07

Still a long way South, so it's still not that warm,

0:00:070:00:09

but it's going to be a stronger westerly jet.

0:00:090:00:11

So a lot of our weather will be

0:00:110:00:13

coming in from the Atlantic.

0:00:130:00:15

And the jet stream tends to pick up

0:00:150:00:16

and develop areas of low pressure

0:00:160:00:18

and that's what we're seeing at the moment,

0:00:180:00:20

this low-pressure and weather fronts

0:00:200:00:22

spilling rain northwards and eastwards right now.

0:00:220:00:25

So it will be a warmer start

0:00:250:00:26

across England and Wales

0:00:260:00:27

and Northern Ireland on Monday,

0:00:270:00:29

but cloud and outbreaks of rain.

0:00:290:00:31

The brighter colours show

0:00:310:00:32

heavy rain coming into Wales,

0:00:320:00:34

the South-West in the morning,

0:00:340:00:35

pushing into the Midlands towards the South-East,

0:00:350:00:37

then more southern parts of Northern Ireland.

0:00:370:00:39

Blustery winds in Northern Ireland

0:00:390:00:41

and northern England.

0:00:410:00:42

The far north of England won't see much rain

0:00:420:00:44

and Scotland may stay dry with some sunshine.

0:00:440:00:46

North-west Scotland the place to be.

0:00:460:00:48

Maybe some late sunshine in the South-West,

0:00:480:00:50

some sharp showers.

0:00:500:00:52

A humid feel across southern parts of the UK.

0:00:520:00:54

But the rain continues into the night,

0:00:540:00:57

the rain band getting stuck

0:00:570:00:58

across northern England,

0:00:580:01:00

petering out to some extent

0:01:000:01:01

but still some showers wandering across

0:01:010:01:03

southern parts of England and Wales

0:01:030:01:05

where it will be particularly warm

0:01:050:01:06

into Tuesday morning.

0:01:060:01:08

Chilliest of all across Scotland

0:01:080:01:09

where we've got clearer skies.

0:01:090:01:11

Here we're more dominated

0:01:110:01:12

by this area of high pressure.

0:01:120:01:14

It's quite a cold high, moving down from the North

0:01:140:01:16

and it's starting to squeeze our rain away,

0:01:160:01:18

those weather fronts away.

0:01:180:01:20

And that area of low pressure too.

0:01:200:01:22

But it's a slow process.

0:01:220:01:23

For much of the day,

0:01:230:01:24

southern England, maybe South Wales

0:01:240:01:26

will be dull and damp.

0:01:260:01:28

If you head across North Wales,

0:01:280:01:29

the Midlands, northwards, it'll be brighter.

0:01:290:01:32

We'll see some sunshine at times

0:01:320:01:34

but probably quite a cool feel,

0:01:340:01:36

with that area of high pressure.

0:01:360:01:37

To the south we've still got the rather muggy air

0:01:370:01:40

and 19 or 20 is still quite likely.

0:01:400:01:42

But that weather front and the cloud with it

0:01:420:01:45

doesn't clear away from

0:01:450:01:46

the far South and South-West of England.

0:01:460:01:49

And these Atlantic systems are trying to push in,

0:01:490:01:51

pushing that area of high pressure

0:01:510:01:53

away into Scandinavia. What does that mean?

0:01:530:01:56

Most places will be dry on Wednesday,

0:01:560:01:58

some sunshine around.

0:01:580:01:59

Still cloudy in the far south of England,

0:01:590:02:01

the far South-West some drizzly rain,

0:02:010:02:04

and some patchy rain

0:02:040:02:05

coming into Northern Ireland later in the day.

0:02:050:02:07

That's the forerunner really

0:02:070:02:09

of these next weather fronts

0:02:090:02:11

and areas of low pressure

0:02:110:02:12

that are taking over later on in the week.

0:02:120:02:15

These weather fronts pushing

0:02:150:02:16

right away across the UK on Thursday

0:02:160:02:18

to bring cloud and outbreaks of rain,

0:02:180:02:20

some blustery winds perhaps.

0:02:200:02:22

The rain could be quite heavy at times,

0:02:220:02:24

even in the South,

0:02:240:02:25

where we've got warmer air in the South-East.

0:02:250:02:28

Some of the heaviest rain

0:02:280:02:29

likely to be in Western Scotland,

0:02:290:02:31

closer to that area of low pressure.

0:02:310:02:33

That's taken a shine to Scotland

0:02:330:02:34

and Northern Ireland by the end of the week.

0:02:340:02:36

It's not moving away very quickly.

0:02:360:02:39

Some blustery winds around

0:02:390:02:40

that area of low pressure on Friday

0:02:400:02:42

and a fresher feel across the South.

0:02:420:02:44

Even here, whilst there'll be some sunshine,

0:02:440:02:46

we'll get some showers,

0:02:460:02:48

possibly longer spells of rain

0:02:480:02:50

further north for Scotland and Northern Ireland.

0:02:500:02:53

Let's look ahead, and a lot of uncertainty, it has to be said.

0:02:530:02:56

The trend as we head into the beginning of September

0:02:560:02:59

should see some drier weather returning.

0:02:590:03:01

Some slightly higher temperatures.

0:03:010:03:04

But Cristobal, which is a tropical storm in the Caribbean at the moment,

0:03:040:03:08

could come across the Atlantic and influence our weather in some way.

0:03:080:03:12

A lot of uncertainty about that.

0:03:120:03:14

We'll probably start the weekend with low pressure over the UK still

0:03:140:03:17

bringing outbreaks of rain.

0:03:170:03:19

Then we're looking at this high-pressure to build

0:03:190:03:21

and become amplified from the South-West,

0:03:210:03:23

bringing some drier conditions

0:03:230:03:25

and hopefully some better temperatures as well.

0:03:250:03:28

But no doubt things will change over the next few days.
