Hello there. It's time for our regular look | 0:00:04 | 0:00:06
at the weather for the week ahead. | 0:00:06 | 0:00:07
Last week, of course, we had a lot of dry weather. | 0:00:07 | 0:00:10
This week looks slightly different. There will be some rain around, | 0:00:10 | 0:00:13
the showers that we were expecting this week. | 0:00:13 | 0:00:15
They will be very hit and miss, | 0:00:15 | 0:00:16
and by no means guaranteed to get the wet weather. | 0:00:16 | 0:00:19
There will be some sunshine, particularly in the afternoons. | 0:00:19 | 0:00:21
The mornings rather grey and misty, but we have this warming trend | 0:00:21 | 0:00:24
this week, particularly for the Southern half of the UK. | 0:00:24 | 0:00:28
Let's set the scene, then, | 0:00:28 | 0:00:29
and the high pressure that was over the UK last week | 0:00:29 | 0:00:32
is retreating back to the near continent, | 0:00:32 | 0:00:34
to Scandinavia, and the Easterly breeze | 0:00:34 | 0:00:36
is setting up this low pressure, likely to have | 0:00:36 | 0:00:38
an influence later in the week. | 0:00:38 | 0:00:40
The Easterly breeze, though, means | 0:00:40 | 0:00:42
a grey, misty, murky, foggy start | 0:00:42 | 0:00:44
in quite a few places on Tuesday. | 0:00:44 | 0:00:46
Only slowly lifting in the morning. | 0:00:46 | 0:00:47
Sunny spells developing | 0:00:47 | 0:00:48
a little more widely through the afternoon. | 0:00:48 | 0:00:50
That will trigger a few showers once again. | 0:00:50 | 0:00:53
And the showers across the South could be heavy, | 0:00:53 | 0:00:55
possibly thundery, but very hit and miss, | 0:00:55 | 0:00:57
and a lot of places are still dry on Tuesday. | 0:00:57 | 0:01:00
Another warm day for the South-east. | 0:01:00 | 0:01:02
23 degrees is quite likely. | 0:01:02 | 0:01:04
It should be a bit warmer | 0:01:04 | 0:01:05
across the rest of England and Wales, | 0:01:05 | 0:01:07
typically 20 or 21, | 0:01:07 | 0:01:08
and a warmer day for Northern Ireland | 0:01:08 | 0:01:10
and for Scotland as well. | 0:01:10 | 0:01:12
Still a few showers around here, perhaps, | 0:01:12 | 0:01:14
but a bit of sunshine away from the East Coast | 0:01:14 | 0:01:16
will lift temperatures higher | 0:01:16 | 0:01:17
than they were on Monday. | 0:01:17 | 0:01:18
The more persistent rain | 0:01:18 | 0:01:20
is across the Northern Isles. | 0:01:20 | 0:01:21
As we head into Wednesday, again, | 0:01:21 | 0:01:23
a grey, misty, murky start, | 0:01:23 | 0:01:24
a lot of low cloud around on that Easterly breeze. | 0:01:24 | 0:01:27
We break that up and get the sunshine | 0:01:27 | 0:01:28
initially across Western areas, | 0:01:28 | 0:01:30
then later in the South, | 0:01:30 | 0:01:31
but the easterly breeze continues to drag in | 0:01:31 | 0:01:33
a lot of cloud for Eastern Scotland | 0:01:33 | 0:01:34
and North-east England. | 0:01:34 | 0:01:35
This is where we'll see most of the showers. | 0:01:35 | 0:01:38
There'll be a few set off further South | 0:01:38 | 0:01:40
thanks to the heat | 0:01:40 | 0:01:41
during the afternoon, perhaps. | 0:01:41 | 0:01:42
But again, a lot of places are dry. | 0:01:42 | 0:01:44
We've got this warmer air | 0:01:44 | 0:01:46
trying to tuck its way into the UK, | 0:01:46 | 0:01:47
coming in from the near continent, | 0:01:47 | 0:01:49
and wrapped around the top of an area of low pressure. | 0:01:49 | 0:01:52
It's not just warmer air, | 0:01:52 | 0:01:53
but it's rather humid air as well. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:55
There's that big low. | 0:01:55 | 0:01:56
It's been sitting there for well over a week now. | 0:01:56 | 0:01:59
It's starting to get a little bit closer. | 0:01:59 | 0:02:01
Pressure is somewhat lower this week, | 0:02:01 | 0:02:03
and these bands of showers | 0:02:03 | 0:02:04
are likely to head our way. | 0:02:04 | 0:02:06
Maybe not so much on Thursday. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:08
Again, not many showers on Thursday. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:10
A lot of places will be dry. | 0:02:10 | 0:02:11
Most of the showers will be in the South. | 0:02:11 | 0:02:13
And always the struggle to break the cloud up | 0:02:13 | 0:02:15
across Eastern Scotland and the North-east | 0:02:15 | 0:02:17
of England, so here, temperatures will be | 0:02:17 | 0:02:20
a bit lower still, 15, 16 degrees, | 0:02:20 | 0:02:22
not particularly good, | 0:02:22 | 0:02:23
whereas further South and further West, | 0:02:23 | 0:02:25
it will be much warmer. | 0:02:25 | 0:02:26
We could get 25 in the South-east of England. | 0:02:26 | 0:02:28
The last time we had that number | 0:02:28 | 0:02:30
was back on August 8. | 0:02:30 | 0:02:32
So, some late heat, then. | 0:02:32 | 0:02:33
Not quite as warm in the South on Friday, | 0:02:33 | 0:02:36
because there will be more showers. | 0:02:36 | 0:02:38
These could be heavy, possibly thundery. | 0:02:38 | 0:02:40
To the north, it is much drier. | 0:02:40 | 0:02:42
As we head into Saturday, | 0:02:42 | 0:02:44
it's beginning to dry off once again. | 0:02:44 | 0:02:45
Still a few showers around, | 0:02:45 | 0:02:47
but those temperatures probably not quite as high. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:50
20 to 22 degrees at best. | 0:02:50 | 0:02:52
We've got high pressure building in over the weekend, | 0:02:52 | 0:02:54
coming in from the Atlantic, | 0:02:54 | 0:02:56
so it's bringing with it some slightly cooler air. | 0:02:56 | 0:02:58
Over the last few days, you may have heard us | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
talking about Hurricane, or Ex-Hurricane, | 0:03:00 | 0:03:03
as it will be, Edouard in the Atlantic, | 0:03:03 | 0:03:05
and how it might have an influence on our weather. | 0:03:05 | 0:03:07
That looks less likely now. | 0:03:07 | 0:03:09
It's a long way further South | 0:03:09 | 0:03:10
than it should be to influence our shores. | 0:03:10 | 0:03:13
Instead, we look at the deep low | 0:03:13 | 0:03:16
that's heading towards Iceland. | 0:03:16 | 0:03:18
That is a typical mid-Atlantic depression, | 0:03:18 | 0:03:21
and it could get steered by the jet stream our way next week. | 0:03:21 | 0:03:25
But a lot of uncertainty about next week. | 0:03:25 | 0:03:27
The trend could see it more | 0:03:27 | 0:03:29
unsettled in the North-west, | 0:03:29 | 0:03:30
much drier in the South-east. | 0:03:30 | 0:03:32
As the eyes of the world focus on Scotland, | 0:03:34 | 0:03:36
we wait to discover the future of the United Kingdom. | 0:03:36 | 0:03:39
Will Scotland vote to become an independent country or stay | 0:03:39 | 0:03:43
part of the Union, and what could this historic night mean for you? | 0:03:43 | 0:03:47
