Hello. Coming up, why our weather next week becomes more changeable

0:00:040:00:06

and the role the jet stream has to play in that.

0:00:060:00:08

But first all the weather changes we are all going to experience as

0:00:080:00:11

we go through this weekend, because if you've had thunderstorms

0:00:110:00:14

they will be easing.

0:00:140:00:15

If you've had low cloud, mist and drizzle all of that clears away

0:00:150:00:19

and cooler, but fresher air will be pushing

0:00:190:00:22

South across the United Kingdom,

0:00:220:00:24

as we lose the influence of this area of low pressure to the

0:00:240:00:27

Southwest of us which has been pushing energy

0:00:270:00:29

our way in the form of thunderstorms for some, high-pressure builds in

0:00:290:00:32

and that's going to give us the cleaner, fresher air.

0:00:320:00:35

I think the biggest change will be in Eastern Scotland

0:00:350:00:37

and North East England.

0:00:370:00:38

After a whole week of low cloud, mist

0:00:380:00:40

and murk, this cold front moving South on Saturday will clear all of

0:00:400:00:44

that away and give us brighter skies, better visibility to look forward to.

0:00:440:00:49

The whole of the UK will be in that cleaner,

0:00:490:00:51

fresher air by the time we get to Sunday.

0:00:510:00:54

Let's look at the weekend day by day.

0:00:540:00:56

We start with Saturday and still a lot of mist,

0:00:560:00:58

low cloud and murk across England and Wales.

0:00:580:01:00

Plenty of cloud throughout the day. There will be some showers to be had.

0:01:000:01:03

There will be

0:01:030:01:04

some heavy ones developing across parts of Southern England into the

0:01:040:01:07

afternoon even though it's not as warm, not as muggy as it's been.

0:01:070:01:11

Any showers very hit and miss, and a few throughout affecting

0:01:110:01:14

parts of Eastern England that could be heavy and thundery.

0:01:140:01:17

And the odd shower

0:01:170:01:18

elsewhere in England and Wales, but also plenty of dry weather.

0:01:180:01:20

For Scotland and Northern Ireland there will be a few showers moving

0:01:200:01:23

through on this North, Northwesterly breeze,

0:01:230:01:26

but there will also be some sunny spells to be had.

0:01:260:01:28

Sunshine in places that have not seen it for some time.

0:01:280:01:31

But as the area of high pressure builds in for Sunday it does mean

0:01:310:01:35

under clear skies, especially for the Northern half of the UK

0:01:350:01:37

as Sunday begins, it's going to be a colder morning than we've

0:01:370:01:40

had recently. There is even the risk of ground frost in places.

0:01:400:01:43

Sunday most start dry, a mixture of cloud and sunshine and that fresh

0:01:430:01:47

air, less humid air sweeps all the way down towards

0:01:470:01:49

the South of the United Kingdom.

0:01:490:01:51

Temperatures aren't as high, but it's better air quality,

0:01:510:01:54

better visibility.

0:01:540:01:55

That area of high-pressure is still around for most of us on Monday.

0:01:550:01:58

That same sort of weather applies

0:01:580:02:00

after a chilly start. A colder start across Southern areas on

0:02:000:02:04

Monday morning than we've had recently.

0:02:040:02:06

Some cloud with breeze heading into the North

0:02:060:02:08

and North West of Scotland, some rain too, courtesy of a weather front

0:02:080:02:12

that weakens as it starts to move South on Tuesday.

0:02:120:02:15

Following behind there will be another heading

0:02:150:02:17

into Northern Scotland.

0:02:170:02:19

That gives you a sign our weather is beginning to change.

0:02:190:02:22

Weather systems coming in one after another.

0:02:220:02:24

We have not had that for a while.

0:02:240:02:26

And because the jet stream,

0:02:260:02:27

and this is how it's been looking for the past few weeks, has been blocked,

0:02:270:02:30

all the energy from it, and it carries weather systems our way,

0:02:300:02:34

hasn't been coming to our shores. That is now changing.

0:02:340:02:37

As we go through next week, look at this, midweek onwards that

0:02:370:02:41

jet stream is heading right towards the UK with those weather systems.

0:02:410:02:44

But the influence felt more towards the Northwest,

0:02:440:02:47

first to get those weather systems from the jet stream, and not

0:02:470:02:50

so much down towards the Southeast.

0:02:500:02:52

Around this area of high pressure that's where our weather will be

0:02:520:02:54

coming from, so we end up with a

0:02:540:02:56

Northwest-Southeast split towards the end of next

0:02:560:02:59

week, even into the following weekend.

0:02:590:03:01

The North and West of the United Kingdom will see most frequent

0:03:010:03:04

incursions from weather systems giving occasional rain,

0:03:040:03:06

breezy conditions, but we're not going to get too

0:03:060:03:08

many of those down towards the South and East of the UK.

0:03:080:03:10

So here it is drier and brighter in comparison.

0:03:100:03:13

Again all the way through the end of next week into the weekend,

0:03:130:03:16

even the start of the following week a Northwest-Southeast

0:03:160:03:19

split across the UK.

0:03:190:03:21

Our weather turning more changeable

0:03:210:03:23

and again the jet stream has a major part to play in all of that.

0:03:230:03:27

We'll keep you updated day by day. For now, goodbye.
