24/11/2015 Weather for the Week Ahead

Hello there. After a cold weekend and a cold start to the new week,

temperatures are slowly creeping up overnight tonight.

So we should start Tuesday

pretty much frost free,

maybe a touch of frost

on the higher ground of the north-east,

for most of us, several degrees up

on recent mornings. Rain will clear away

from the south-eastern corner.

Many central and eastern areas

having a pretty reasonable afternoon.

There will be some showers

further north and west.

There could be some heavy showers

in the far north,

towards the Northern Isles.

Some good spells of sunshine

in Aberdeenshire,

cooler than it has been,

five or six degrees

in spite of some sunshine.

To the east of the Pennines,

very few showers get across

so a lot of dry weather to be had here,

temperatures up a good few degrees

on recent days,

we'll get to nine, ten degrees

across the south-east,

a lot of dry weather,

variable amounts of clouds, a bit of sunshine.

The clouds a bit thicker

down towards the south and west.

It will be producing some showers,

they'll be moving through

fairly swiftly on the breeze.

Look at those temperatures,

back up into double figures.

We should see double figures in parts of Wales,

but it's cloudy at times, breezy,

and there will be some rain

moving through on the breeze

in the north-west of England

into Northern Ireland.

In fact, here, those showers

may merge into something wetter

through the afternoon and on into the evening.

In fact, I think many of us

will see some rain overnight

into the small hours of Wednesday,

breezy too, and turning quite chilly once again

towards the north-east of the UK,

but notably, still quite mild down

towards the south and west,

maybe 10 or so degrees to start the day

in Plymouth on Wednesday.

It will be quite a windy day across the board.

It will be a cold wind, actually,

for the east of Scotland,

the eastern side of England and for all of us,

it will feel quite chilly in the wind.

Actually, there's going to be

a lot of dry and bright weather.

Through the spine of the UK,

some good spells of sunshine -

southern Scotland, northern England,

the Midlands looks pretty good.

A few showers in the north-east of Scotland.

Most of the showers will be

across these western parts of the UK.

Still quite mild in the south and west,

but a chilly feel to things

in spite of some sunshine

with that wind.

And then through Wednesday night into Thursday,

we've got this warm front just drifting its way

across the north of the UK.

We'll see this wedge

of relatively mild air heading our way

so I think we'll see those temperatures, well,

relatively mild, I suppose, through Thursday,

then on until Friday,

but the colder air is lurking

just out to the west of us

and that'll be arriving

late in the day on Friday.

Thursday looks like a pretty reasonable day.

Yes, a fair bit of cloud, but a lot of dry weather

to be had and not so windy

and double figures for many of us.

Thickening cloud out towards the west

brings a little bit of rainfall

and the winds will be picking up late Thursday

and on into Friday.

Through Friday the winds get even stronger.

We are looking at gales developing

across the north and west of the UK

and we also are going to see some rain

and some of that could be quite heavy.

It will start off in the north-west.

We'll all see rain during Friday.

It will drift its way from the north-west

towards the south-east

and it will begin to push

that mild air out of the way.

So colder air comes in behind this cold front,

a chilly start to the day

for many of us on Saturday and again,

it's still pretty windy,

so a blustery day but a dry and bright start

for many eastern areas, but chilly,

and then out west the next system arrives

and that is going to bring thickening clouds,

strengthening winds

and some rain, snow on the Scottish hills.

And then onto the second part of the weekend.

We've got this very powerful jet stream

drifting across the North Atlantic.

It's going to bring some unsettled weather with it,

a series of low pressure systems coming along with that jet stream,

and that's going to last into the early part of next week.

Very unsettled conditions,

windy, could be gales at times

for some of us, some rain moving through

as well, but timings will be

difficult at this stage,

given the strength

of that jet stream. Bye for now.
