Thanks for joining me. Let's see what's in store

0:00:030:00:05

for the next ten days.

0:00:050:00:06

As far as the here and now is concerned, the next

0:00:060:00:09

couple of days, the weekend, no real change to our weather pattern.

0:00:090:00:12

We have got the milder air sitting across southern parts of the UK.

0:00:120:00:16

Colder air across Scotland and northern England.

0:00:160:00:19

And actually, over the next 24 hours or so,

0:00:190:00:21

we will see a bit of rain and snow across a zone

0:00:210:00:24

of the country where the colder and the milder air clashes.

0:00:240:00:27

This is what it looks like, early hours of Saturday morning.

0:00:270:00:30

So we have a weather front approaching out of the west

0:00:300:00:33

and it is going to engage the colder air

0:00:330:00:35

that is sitting across the north of the UK.

0:00:350:00:38

And that means a spell of some rain and snow.

0:00:380:00:41

Anywhere from northern parts of Wales across the Pennines into Cumbria.

0:00:410:00:44

To the south of that, it is almost certainly going to be rainfall,

0:00:440:00:47

for example, across the north Midlands.

0:00:470:00:49

But let's start with Scotland.

0:00:490:00:51

This is around midday and we are in that cold,

0:00:510:00:53

crisp air mass here.

0:00:530:00:55

Now, the winds are a little bit lighter on Saturday

0:00:550:00:57

compared to the last few days.

0:00:570:00:59

Some sunshine there for Inverness, Aberdeenshire,

0:00:590:01:01

the lowlands of Scotland.

0:01:010:01:03

Showers maybe for Northern Ireland after a wet start to the day.

0:01:030:01:07

And here is that snow across the Pennines

0:01:070:01:09

and to the south of that, it is rainfall,

0:01:090:01:10

but there will be a big temperature contrast between say,

0:01:100:01:13

the north Midlands and the south Midlands and the much milder

0:01:130:01:16

conditions will be once again across the south of the country.

0:01:160:01:19

Anywhere from Cornwall to the Kent coast will see

0:01:190:01:21

temperatures of around 12 or 13 degrees.

0:01:210:01:23

Now, this is the following night. Saturday night into Sunday.

0:01:230:01:26

That weather front is out of the way

0:01:260:01:28

and more of us are sitting in that colder air.

0:01:280:01:31

So temperatures will tumble away as far south as the Midlands.

0:01:310:01:36

So widespread frost first thing on Sunday morning.

0:01:360:01:39

Down to minus-5 or minus-8 degrees across Scotland.

0:01:390:01:43

And it will be a clear night.

0:01:430:01:44

A good night early on Saturday night to catch a glimpse

0:01:440:01:47

of some of those meteor showers we are having.

0:01:470:01:49

The Geminids, I'm talking about.

0:01:490:01:51

Here is the weather for Sunday.

0:01:520:01:54

A little bit of cloud around across most of England and Wales.

0:01:540:01:57

The best of the brightness will be in eastern areas

0:01:570:02:00

but also some rain around for Belfast.

0:02:000:02:02

And still chilly in Scotland.

0:02:020:02:04

We are going to keep that cold weather for a time

0:02:040:02:06

before slightly milder weather heads in the direction of Scotland

0:02:060:02:10

from Monday onwards.

0:02:100:02:11

This area of low pressure is going to move some of that milder air

0:02:110:02:14

that we have had across the south into northern England and Scotland.

0:02:140:02:17

So we are losing those threes and fours

0:02:170:02:19

as far as the temperature goes, more like eight degrees.

0:02:190:02:22

Now, Monday, you can see how extensive

0:02:220:02:24

this mild air is across Europe.

0:02:240:02:26

It has reached Scotland, it is certainly reaching the Low Countries.

0:02:260:02:30

And in fact, whether you are in London or in Rome or Madrid,

0:02:300:02:34

the temperature will be more or less the same, 12 or 13 degrees.

0:02:340:02:37

It is across Scandinavia and the far, far east of Europe

0:02:370:02:40

where we have got the cold air.

0:02:400:02:41

Even for Moscow, minus one degree isn't that cold

0:02:410:02:44

at this time of year.

0:02:440:02:45

Now a look on Wednesday. Really mild across the south.

0:02:450:02:48

13 degrees. Even in the north of Scotland,

0:02:480:02:50

temperatures around ten degrees or so.

0:02:500:02:53

Now, the end of the week, we are talking about next Thursday

0:02:530:02:56

and Friday, some mild air.

0:02:560:02:59

By the time we get to Friday and Saturday,

0:02:590:03:02

we start to see a return of colder air heading our way.

0:03:020:03:06

So that means that by the time we get to next weekend,

0:03:060:03:09

things are going to cool off once again.

0:03:090:03:12

There is a chance of some mountain snow across Scotland,

0:03:120:03:15

northern parts of England.

0:03:150:03:17

And then, just to give you a flavour as we head into the start

0:03:170:03:20

of the Christmas week,

0:03:200:03:22

it does look as though milder air is going to return once again.

0:03:220:03:25

So it is chopping and changing, flipping and flopping

0:03:250:03:27

from mild to cold back to mild.

0:03:270:03:29

There once was a sprout with love to give

0:03:320:03:35

Looking for friends to spend Christmas with

0:03:350:03:38

He saw a light in the winter snow

0:03:380:03:40

Where a baker baked cakes, but sadly said no

0:03:400:03:44

Next, he heard the toymaker shout

0:03:450:03:47

That nobody ever liked a sprout...

0:03:470:03:49

Oh...

0:03:490:03:51

He met a woodcutter who loved tinsel and trees
