Hello, thanks for tuning in to the weather for the week ahead.

0:00:030:00:06

Over the next three or four days, there isn't going to be much

0:00:060:00:09

change on the weather front.

0:00:090:00:10

So this pattern where we've got the colder weather across Scotland

0:00:100:00:14

and the milder, cloudy weather in the south isn't really going to shift.

0:00:140:00:18

This is the satellite picture from Thursday.

0:00:180:00:20

This is the forecast first thing in the morning on Friday.

0:00:200:00:23

Look how mild it is first thing, 9 degrees.

0:00:230:00:25

But we've got weather cold enough for some wintry showers across Scotland.

0:00:250:00:28

That's how it's going to stay through the course of Friday.

0:00:280:00:31

No real difference, milder in the south, colder in the north.

0:00:310:00:34

But there will be some sunshine around.

0:00:340:00:36

So, actually, the weather for many of us isn't that bad at all.

0:00:360:00:39

Let's have a look at a snapshot of Friday afternoon.

0:00:390:00:42

This is three o'clock.

0:00:420:00:43

You can see it is chilly in Inverness, 3 degrees.

0:00:430:00:45

But we've got some sunshine around.

0:00:450:00:47

The breeze is quite strong, so it will feel fairly chilly.

0:00:470:00:51

7 degrees there, Belfast, with one or two showers.

0:00:510:00:55

Look at this swathe of the country all

0:00:550:00:56

the way from Yorkshire across Wales and down into the

0:00:560:00:59

Midlands, East Anglia, actually not a bad day at all.

0:00:590:01:02

But the south of the country, here,

0:01:020:01:04

the southern portion is cloudier with some spots of rain.

0:01:040:01:07

Here temperatures will be around 9 or 10 degrees.

0:01:070:01:10

Not an awful lot of difference from the overnight temperature.

0:01:100:01:13

On Friday night into Saturday, there will be a bit of a change on the way.

0:01:130:01:17

We're still going to be talking about these dividing lines

0:01:170:01:20

between the milder air to the south

0:01:200:01:22

and the colder air to the north.

0:01:220:01:25

This weather front here,

0:01:250:01:26

what it is going to do, through the course of Saturday morning,

0:01:260:01:29

is actually slide along this zone of big temperature difference.

0:01:290:01:34

What that means is where the rain engages that colder air

0:01:340:01:37

in the north, it will properly turn to snow

0:01:370:01:39

across parts of Cumbria Tom maybe the Pennines,

0:01:390:01:42

it's really tricky to say exactly how much we're going to get.

0:01:420:01:45

But I think the basic message is further south across Wales

0:01:450:01:48

and into the Peak District, that will be rain.

0:01:480:01:51

Across the hills into the Pennines and Cumbria it will probably be snow.

0:01:510:01:54

Only transient, we're only talking about a few hours worth of snow.

0:01:540:01:57

Either side of that, the weather will be better.

0:01:570:01:59

So mild again in the south, 13 degrees there in London,

0:01:590:02:02

but colder for northern Scotland 3 or 4 degrees.

0:02:020:02:06

On Sunday, again that low pressure still there.

0:02:060:02:10

It is quite a slow-moving one really.

0:02:100:02:12

Quite often low-pressures zip across the UK,

0:02:120:02:14

but this one will be stuck just towards the west

0:02:140:02:16

and south-west of us and this weak weather front will be slicing

0:02:160:02:20

the country around about the Midlands.

0:02:200:02:22

So that means the south coast will be mild

0:02:220:02:25

again for December, around 12 degrees.

0:02:250:02:27

Just a hint as we head into Monday, that this low pressure will

0:02:270:02:30

sort of take charge of the weather a little bit more across the UK.

0:02:300:02:33

That means stronger winds, these weather fronts making a bit more

0:02:330:02:36

progress to the north, so that means that the really chilly air

0:02:360:02:39

that we will have seen across Scotland will actually

0:02:390:02:41

move away further north.

0:02:410:02:43

So that means temperatures there in the north of Scotland

0:02:430:02:45

around 8 degrees or so.

0:02:450:02:47

Rather than 3 or 4.

0:02:470:02:49

A similar picture on Tuesday

0:02:490:02:51

and that low-pressure is still out there, it's sitting there

0:02:510:02:53

not really doing an awful lot.

0:02:530:02:55

For the middle part of the week, so that's midweek next week, that

0:02:550:02:58

low is still pumping in moisture and mild air from the southern climes.

0:02:580:03:03

It's because of the orientation of the jet stream.

0:03:030:03:06

Whenever we get this southerly component of the jet stream,

0:03:060:03:08

the air comes in from the south, so that's why we got that milder air.

0:03:080:03:13

But by the time we get to the latter part of the week,

0:03:130:03:15

say in around 10 day's time, that low-pressure

0:03:150:03:18

comes in more from the west and there's a chance that slightly

0:03:180:03:21

colder air will be digging in behind these areas of low pressure.

0:03:210:03:24

But before that happens, it's still uncertain,

0:03:240:03:26

we could see a spell of slightly quieter weather, perhaps

0:03:260:03:29

high-pressure, but it's still a long way off.

0:03:290:03:31

Forensics found what was left.

0:03:360:03:37

What do we do with something like this?

0:03:390:03:41

Find our man.

0:03:450:03:46

Sorry, mate, who are you again?

0:03:470:03:49

Police.
