Hello. As 2015 draws to a close,

0:00:030:00:05

the final month of the year will be remembered

0:00:050:00:08

for the stormy weather we've seen across much of the country.

0:00:080:00:12

Through the course of this week, things are looking very windy,

0:00:120:00:15

quite mild still,

0:00:150:00:16

but there'll be further heavy rain in the forecast

0:00:160:00:19

in the middle part of the week.

0:00:190:00:20

Before we get there,

0:00:200:00:22

a bit of a quieter interlude

0:00:220:00:23

during the course of Tuesday.

0:00:230:00:25

You can see Storm Frank

0:00:250:00:26

lingering out here in the Atlantic.

0:00:260:00:28

That'll become more of a player

0:00:280:00:29

in our weather as we head towards

0:00:290:00:31

the middle of the week.

0:00:310:00:32

The sixth named storm of the season.

0:00:320:00:34

But during the day on Tuesday

0:00:340:00:36

will be decent for many.

0:00:360:00:37

Real respite.

0:00:370:00:38

A lot of dry weather,

0:00:380:00:39

the winds not as strong as they have been,

0:00:390:00:41

and quite a good deal of sunshine on offer.

0:00:410:00:43

Things will feel a bit fresher

0:00:430:00:45

than recent days

0:00:450:00:46

but still temperatures above average

0:00:460:00:48

for the time of year.

0:00:480:00:49

Between 9 to 10 in the north.

0:00:490:00:51

We could see 11 to 13 further south.

0:00:510:00:52

But winds picking up later in the day

0:00:520:00:54

towards the west.

0:00:540:00:55

Cloud building ahead of the next storm,

0:00:550:00:57

Storm Frank.

0:00:570:00:59

The main centre of the storm

0:00:590:01:00

pushes well north of the UK,

0:01:000:01:02

but it's this trailing weather front

0:01:020:01:03

that's going to be a troublemaker.

0:01:030:01:05

That's going to bring

0:01:050:01:06

potentially some damaging winds

0:01:060:01:08

as well as very heavy rain

0:01:080:01:09

in areas that could really do

0:01:090:01:11

without further rain.

0:01:110:01:13

60-90mm of rain fairly widely

0:01:130:01:14

across parts of northern England.

0:01:140:01:16

It could be more than that

0:01:160:01:17

on top of the highest hills.

0:01:170:01:18

The weather front

0:01:180:01:19

trailing through Scotland,

0:01:190:01:21

northern England, Wales,

0:01:210:01:22

towards the southwest of England too.

0:01:220:01:24

The southeast of the weather front

0:01:240:01:25

remaining predominately dry.

0:01:250:01:27

13 degrees or so.

0:01:270:01:28

Slightly fresher conditions

0:01:280:01:30

towards the northwest.

0:01:300:01:31

But the heavy rain

0:01:310:01:32

could exacerbate the flooding situation

0:01:320:01:34

across areas

0:01:340:01:35

including Cumbria and Yorkshire too.

0:01:350:01:37

Slowly, we'll start to lose the influence

0:01:370:01:39

of this weather front

0:01:390:01:40

as we head through Wednesday night

0:01:400:01:42

into New Year's Eve on Thursday.

0:01:420:01:44

New Year's Eve itself a slightly drier day.

0:01:440:01:47

Winds coming in

0:01:470:01:48

from a westerly direction.

0:01:480:01:50

Sunny spells, scattered showers,

0:01:500:01:52

some heavy in western areas,

0:01:520:01:54

and temperatures down

0:01:540:01:55

compared to recent days.

0:01:550:01:57

6 to 11 degrees.

0:01:570:01:58

We could have a chilly evening

0:01:580:02:00

if you're heading out on New Year's Eve,

0:02:000:02:02

but it does look like most of the rain

0:02:020:02:04

will clear away towards the east

0:02:040:02:05

and the winds will feel lighter,

0:02:050:02:07

so good news if you're off to see the fireworks

0:02:070:02:09

on into the early hours of New Year's Day.

0:02:090:02:12

After the very wet weather

0:02:120:02:13

through the middle of the week,

0:02:130:02:15

New Year's Day

0:02:150:02:16

does look drier and quieter.

0:02:160:02:17

The next band of rain

0:02:170:02:18

pushing in from the west though,

0:02:180:02:20

so we could see

0:02:200:02:21

stormy conditions once again

0:02:210:02:23

as we head into the first part of 2016.

0:02:230:02:25

New Year's Day fairly dry and quiet,

0:02:250:02:28

then this weather front pushes in

0:02:280:02:30

from the Atlantic.

0:02:300:02:31

Another spell of wet weather

0:02:310:02:33

as we head into the weekend.

0:02:330:02:35

For Saturday, it looks like further rain

0:02:350:02:37

for some western areas.

0:02:370:02:38

In the east,

0:02:380:02:40

it's likely to stay dry and bright.

0:02:400:02:42

Temperatures more typical

0:02:420:02:43

for the time of year.

0:02:430:02:44

Still a bit mild

0:02:440:02:46

but not as mild as it has been.

0:02:460:02:48

As we head through the course of next week,

0:02:480:02:49

the most likely scenario is that

0:02:490:02:51

we'll still have low pressure moving

0:02:510:02:53

to the north and northwest of the UK,

0:02:530:02:54

drawing in this fairly mild

0:02:540:02:56

and often wet airflow

0:02:560:02:57

from the Atlantic.

0:02:570:02:58

A less likely scenario at this stage

0:02:580:03:00

is that we could start to see

0:03:000:03:02

high pressure becoming established

0:03:020:03:03

around Scandinavia

0:03:030:03:05

and that would allow a colder, drier and brighter flow of air

0:03:050:03:08

to come in from the near continent.

0:03:080:03:10

We'll keep you updated on that

0:03:100:03:12

as we head through the next six to ten day period,

0:03:120:03:14

but in general

0:03:140:03:16

it looks like the weather

0:03:160:03:17

is remaining pretty unsettled

0:03:170:03:19

through the start of 2016.

0:03:190:03:20

Spells of wind and rain likely.

0:03:200:03:22

A chance that we could see

0:03:220:03:24

that cooling trend though

0:03:240:03:26

as we head through

0:03:260:03:27

the first week of 2016.

0:03:270:03:28

But over the next few days there'll be more stormy weather on the cards.

0:03:280:03:31

I want futurism,

0:03:320:03:33

but not yesterday's futurism.

0:03:330:03:35

I want today's futurism for tomorrow.

0:03:350:03:38

I want Hollywood glamour and feathers and sequins

0:03:380:03:40

and glitter unicorns!

0:03:400:03:42

But not too over the top, yeah?
