Hello there. The next ten days looks very unsettled, and the longer this | 0:00:03 | 0:00:06
rain goes on, the more we are likely to see some more flooding. | 0:00:06 | 0:00:09
The first area of concern continues to be some eastern areas of Scotland. | 0:00:09 | 0:00:13
We have this amber rain warning out from the Met Office. | 0:00:13 | 0:00:15
It continues through much of Monday, | 0:00:15 | 0:00:18
and it's steady rain that's going to potentially lead to some | 0:00:18 | 0:00:21
flooding here, another 100 millimetres or so, about four inches, | 0:00:21 | 0:00:25
because the winds are still piling in all this wet weather from the east. | 0:00:25 | 0:00:29
Western Scotland's very much drier, | 0:00:29 | 0:00:31
it's eastern Scotland seeing all the rain and potentially some | 0:00:31 | 0:00:34
battering waves as well along those coastal areas, too. | 0:00:34 | 0:00:38
Now, we're seeing all this wet weather at the moment because | 0:00:38 | 0:00:41
we've got a big area of low pressure centred very close to the UK. | 0:00:41 | 0:00:44
The fronts are stationary across eastern Scotland. | 0:00:44 | 0:00:47
The winds keep blowing the rain in here. | 0:00:47 | 0:00:49
There'll be some snow in the mountains. | 0:00:49 | 0:00:51
Elsewhere, a little bit brighter, some sunshine but also some showers. | 0:00:51 | 0:00:54
Those look like being heavy | 0:00:54 | 0:00:56
and potentially thundery across Wales and southern England. | 0:00:56 | 0:00:59
There could be a lot of water about on the roads, too, | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
so some difficult travelling conditions. | 0:01:01 | 0:01:04
Temperatures Monday very similar to those of Sunday, | 0:01:04 | 0:01:06
another cold day under the wind and rain in eastern Scotland. | 0:01:06 | 0:01:10
And there's no let-up, really, as we head into Tuesday, | 0:01:10 | 0:01:13
because although the low-pressure centre is drifting further south, | 0:01:13 | 0:01:17
that weather front is stuck across Scotland. | 0:01:17 | 0:01:20
So, again, with the onshore winds, strong winds, we're going | 0:01:20 | 0:01:23
to find more rain and more mountain snow across eastern Scotland. | 0:01:23 | 0:01:26
Much drier in Western Scotland, | 0:01:26 | 0:01:28
drier across Cumbria as well as Northern Ireland. | 0:01:28 | 0:01:30
Scattered showers around, | 0:01:30 | 0:01:32
still some heavy ones potentially in the south-east corner of England | 0:01:32 | 0:01:35
and temperatures struggling to make seven or | 0:01:35 | 0:01:38
eight degrees in many parts of the country. | 0:01:38 | 0:01:40
So, low pressure in charge for the next few days, | 0:01:40 | 0:01:42
a lot of showers, longer spells of rain in eastern Scotland. | 0:01:42 | 0:01:45
Low pressure begins to fill, it begins to weaken. | 0:01:45 | 0:01:47
It looks like Wednesday could be a somewhat drier day. | 0:01:47 | 0:01:51
Now, there is some very cold air, actually, not far away, | 0:01:51 | 0:01:54
in the Continent, across the north and east of Europe, | 0:01:54 | 0:01:57
and we could see some of that heading into the far | 0:01:57 | 0:02:00
north of Scotland on those winds, but otherwise we're staying in this | 0:02:00 | 0:02:04
relatively mild air, and there won't be as much rain around | 0:02:04 | 0:02:07
on Wednesday, but there may not be an awful lot of sunshine, either. | 0:02:07 | 0:02:11
Then - it's just a brief respite - we've got more weather fronts piling | 0:02:11 | 0:02:14
in from the Atlantic, another area of low pressure, that long | 0:02:14 | 0:02:18
weather front there pushing a band of rain across all areas on Thursday. | 0:02:18 | 0:02:21
And it's not just rain, there'll be some snow maybe over the tops | 0:02:21 | 0:02:24
of the Pennines, more likely over the mountains and hills of Scotland. | 0:02:24 | 0:02:29
The rain band looks like it's going to clear | 0:02:29 | 0:02:32
the south-east of England in the afternoon. | 0:02:32 | 0:02:33
Some sunshine in Wales, the south-west and Northern Ireland, | 0:02:33 | 0:02:36
but maybe some showers. | 0:02:36 | 0:02:38
Sadly, that weather front could be strung out across Scotland, and again | 0:02:38 | 0:02:42
with that onshore wind it means more rain for the north-east of Scotland. | 0:02:42 | 0:02:46
So, away from here, some sunshine, some showers. | 0:02:46 | 0:02:49
We could see some bands of heavy showers coming into Wales | 0:02:49 | 0:02:51
and the south-west and pushing eastwards later in the day on Friday. | 0:02:51 | 0:02:55
So, if we look further ahead, this is the position of the jet stream. | 0:02:55 | 0:02:59
It is quite a way to the south. | 0:02:59 | 0:03:00
The story really hasn't changed a great deal at all, | 0:03:00 | 0:03:03
a west-east strong jet stream. | 0:03:03 | 0:03:05
It's going to bring with it areas of low pressure that will track | 0:03:05 | 0:03:08
slowly over the UK and bring more rain. | 0:03:08 | 0:03:11
High pressure is with that colder air across Scandinavia. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:14
That's not heading our way directly, | 0:03:14 | 0:03:16
but it will block off any movement of those areas of low pressure. | 0:03:16 | 0:03:19
So essentially, there's more showers or longer spells of rain, | 0:03:19 | 0:03:22
the winds could be quite brisk at times, as well, not quite as mild | 0:03:22 | 0:03:26
as it has been but nothing unusual, really, for the time of year. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:29
People come to Shetland | 0:03:32 | 0:03:33
because we're out on a big rock in the middle of the North Sea. | 0:03:33 | 0:03:36
They think this isn't part of real life. | 0:03:36 | 0:03:38 |
