Hello. Time to take a look further ahead with the forecast

0:00:030:00:06

which has been dominated again this week by the wet weather,

0:00:060:00:09

the severe flooding, as a result of

0:00:090:00:10

some record-breaking rain again in Aberdeenshire.

0:00:100:00:14

But actually, through the day on Friday,

0:00:140:00:16

we turned our attention to snow

0:00:160:00:17

and this was the scene from one of our weather watchers

0:00:170:00:20

in the Scottish Borders through the afternoon.

0:00:200:00:22

And now the cold air is stuck with us

0:00:220:00:24

across the northern half of the country,

0:00:240:00:26

subsequent bands of showers

0:00:260:00:28

heading northwards will turn readily to snow,

0:00:280:00:30

especially over the hills but not exclusively.

0:00:300:00:33

And it's going to be quite icy as well.

0:00:330:00:35

So, as we start Saturday, a widespread

0:00:350:00:38

and fairly penetrating frost

0:00:380:00:40

across some parts of the glens of Scotland,

0:00:400:00:42

with freezing fog potentially here as well

0:00:420:00:44

and Northern Ireland and northern England.

0:00:440:00:47

Quite treacherous underfoot

0:00:470:00:48

and on untreated roads.

0:00:480:00:50

There's a lot of water lying around.

0:00:500:00:52

Not as cold as Friday morning further south,

0:00:520:00:54

but nevertheless some lively winds and heavy showers,

0:00:540:00:57

so if you are driving and caught in those showers,

0:00:570:01:00

there'll be a lot of spray and standing water.

0:01:000:01:03

As we move through the day,

0:01:030:01:04

bands of showers will head northwards and eastwards.

0:01:040:01:07

So you see how cold it will feel

0:01:070:01:09

with that bracing easterly wind

0:01:090:01:10

across northern Scotland.

0:01:100:01:12

Stronger winds than on Friday elsewhere

0:01:120:01:14

and once those showers come into the cold air

0:01:140:01:16

they'll be some snow.

0:01:160:01:18

So concern again for slow-moving showers

0:01:180:01:20

close to the north and east of Scotland,

0:01:200:01:22

perhaps into northern England and Northern Ireland.

0:01:220:01:25

And lots of heavy showers for parts of Wales

0:01:250:01:27

where there's lots of

0:01:270:01:29

standing water at the moment.

0:01:290:01:31

The culprit responsible for all these showers,

0:01:310:01:33

this area of low pressure,

0:01:330:01:35

which is why there'll be showers meandering around.

0:01:350:01:37

But look at the tightly packed isobars on Sunday.

0:01:370:01:40

Potential for some storm force winds

0:01:400:01:42

across the north and north-west of Scotland.

0:01:420:01:45

And rain and indeed snow even at low levels

0:01:450:01:47

eventually arrives in Shetland as well

0:01:470:01:49

after a dryish day here

0:01:490:01:50

through the latter part of the week into Saturday.

0:01:500:01:53

Perhaps fewer showers elsewhere,

0:01:530:01:55

but it will be windy.

0:01:550:01:56

Come Monday, notice the change.

0:01:560:01:58

It's more of a northerly wind

0:01:580:02:00

pulling in the showers.

0:02:000:02:01

Once again plenty of showers

0:02:010:02:02

close to the north-east of Scotland.

0:02:020:02:04

So even though we're seeing showers mostly of snow

0:02:040:02:07

and wintry weather, there's still

0:02:070:02:09

some more precipitation around.

0:02:090:02:11

This northerly wind is originating

0:02:110:02:13

right from the Arctic and this is the change

0:02:130:02:16

we've been talking about all this week.

0:02:160:02:18

The change to something more akin to winter.

0:02:180:02:20

We still keep our low pressure,

0:02:200:02:22

so we'll still have

0:02:220:02:24

a showery airstream across the UK.

0:02:240:02:26

But on the whole, with the winds

0:02:260:02:28

coming down from the north,

0:02:280:02:29

we're cutting off

0:02:290:02:30

all this really warm moist air.

0:02:300:02:32

Remember, the warmer the air is,

0:02:320:02:34

the more moisture it can hold

0:02:340:02:35

so the more rain we'll see.

0:02:350:02:37

This time we're getting this Arctic blast

0:02:370:02:39

through much of the coming week.

0:02:390:02:42

So after the weekend, though it will feel cold

0:02:420:02:44

over the weekend. Come midweek, we've got

0:02:440:02:46

that strong northerly wind

0:02:460:02:47

blowing those showers around,

0:02:470:02:49

but blowing them through

0:02:490:02:50

because the low pressure is still there.

0:02:500:02:53

That keeps things a little unsettled,

0:02:530:02:55

but not as persistently wet as it has been.

0:02:550:02:57

There's a hint that by the end of the week

0:02:570:03:00

we could switch back and bring milder air

0:03:000:03:02

back in from the Atlantic,

0:03:020:03:03

and with it low pressure,

0:03:030:03:05

but it is just a small risk at this stage.

0:03:050:03:08

For most of the coming week,

0:03:080:03:10

although we've got a nasty area

0:03:100:03:11

of low pressure slipping towards the south on Monday,

0:03:110:03:14

potentially bringing more gales and rain,

0:03:140:03:16

the week ahead looks notably colder,

0:03:160:03:19

more akin to winter, with that frost and ice,

0:03:190:03:21

wintry showers,

0:03:210:03:22

but it should for most of us

0:03:220:03:24

be dryer than recently.

0:03:240:03:25

But there are a few flies

0:03:250:03:26

to watch for in the ointment,

0:03:260:03:28

so stay in tune with the forecast.

0:03:280:03:30

The website has more.

0:03:300:03:31

You'd better come in with a brilliant product.
