Hello, there. February started on a stormy note.

0:00:020:00:05

Henry, our eighth named storm of the winter season,

0:00:050:00:07

has come and gone, but it brought some dramatic stories.

0:00:070:00:11

In fact, we had gusts of wind in excess of 90mph

0:00:110:00:13

in the far north of Scotland and our weather watchers sent in

0:00:130:00:17

these photographs of rough seas and heavy rain.

0:00:170:00:20

However, in the wake of Henry,

0:00:200:00:21

we actually saw this amazing nacreous cloud

0:00:210:00:24

and you can see the rainbow effects as the ice crystals

0:00:240:00:27

reflect off the sun's rays first thing on Tuesday morning.

0:00:270:00:30

I suspect Wednesday won't be quite as dramatic,

0:00:300:00:33

but hopefully a little quieter

0:00:330:00:35

and hopefully a little more in the way of sunshine coming through.

0:00:350:00:38

Yes, we've seen a few showers

0:00:380:00:39

during the first half of Wednesday,

0:00:390:00:41

but the cloud will break up, the showers ease through

0:00:410:00:44

and lighter winds.

0:00:440:00:45

Predominantly dry and sunny

0:00:450:00:47

with just a few isolated showers along west-facing coasts.

0:00:470:00:51

After a chilly start, temperatures will recover,

0:00:510:00:54

but they'll be a little more subdued than recent days.

0:00:540:00:56

Four to six degrees in the north,

0:00:560:00:58

around seven to nine further south,

0:00:580:01:01

but it's all change again as we move

0:01:010:01:02

out of Wednesday into Thursday.

0:01:020:01:04

A weather front pushes through.

0:01:040:01:05

On the leading edge, we could see some snow for a time

0:01:050:01:08

to higher ground in Scotland and northern England.

0:01:080:01:10

We're not too concerned for it.

0:01:100:01:12

Hopefully, the milder air will flood back in

0:01:120:01:14

and it'll turn back to rain.

0:01:140:01:15

You can see double figures by the start of Thursday in the west.

0:01:150:01:18

Still cold, though, in the far north and east.

0:01:180:01:22

As we move through Thursday,

0:01:220:01:23

it's a bit more of a subdued,

0:01:230:01:25

drab picture, really. A lot of cloud around.

0:01:250:01:28

A milder feel, yes,

0:01:280:01:29

but it's going to be a grey day

0:01:290:01:31

with some persistent rain just clinging on

0:01:310:01:33

to the far west of Scotland,

0:01:330:01:34

where we don't really need it.

0:01:340:01:36

Also along west-facing coasts,

0:01:360:01:38

a lot of low cloud, poor visibility

0:01:380:01:39

and damp and drizzly.

0:01:390:01:41

Top temperatures around 13 degrees.

0:01:410:01:43

Still cold in the far north-east.

0:01:430:01:45

On Friday, we pick up a stronger southerly wind,

0:01:450:01:48

a more significant frontal system starting to push in

0:01:480:01:51

and that will gradually move its way from west to east.

0:01:510:01:54

Once it does so - it's going to take its time -

0:01:540:01:57

it will clear away during Saturday and again,

0:01:570:01:59

it's going to introduce slightly colder air with it,

0:01:590:02:02

so on Saturday, we see our weather front easing away,

0:02:020:02:05

maybe double figures in the far south-east,

0:02:050:02:07

some sunny spells behind, but temperatures again reverting back

0:02:070:02:10

to around six or seven generally across the country.

0:02:100:02:13

Need to draw your attention by the end of Saturday

0:02:130:02:16

to this area of low pressure

0:02:160:02:17

into the south-west.

0:02:170:02:19

At the moment, there's still a level of uncertainty as to the position

0:02:190:02:23

and the track that area of low pressure is likely to take,

0:02:230:02:26

but it could be significant,

0:02:260:02:27

because with that colder air sitting across the country,

0:02:270:02:31

it looks likely that the jet stream

0:02:310:02:33

will be to the south of the UK,

0:02:330:02:35

so we're going to be on the northern edge of the jet stream.

0:02:350:02:38

We talk about the jet stream as this ribbon of winds

0:02:380:02:41

high up in the atmosphere driving low pressure systems towards us.

0:02:410:02:45

That could pick up that low that I was talking about

0:02:450:02:47

and move it towards the southern half of the UK

0:02:470:02:50

and maybe for a time, there could be a little bit of wet snow,

0:02:500:02:54

but it does mean we could see some wet and windy weather

0:02:540:02:57

across England and Wales.

0:02:570:02:58

The jet stream position into early next week

0:02:580:03:00

is likely to change, though.

0:03:000:03:02

It'll move potentially towards the middle of the UK,

0:03:020:03:05

maybe towards the end of the week

0:03:050:03:07

drifting a little bit further south.

0:03:070:03:09

What all this means is that there's the potential

0:03:090:03:11

as we move into next week,

0:03:110:03:13

the second week of February,

0:03:130:03:14

we'll see some wetter and windier weather

0:03:140:03:16

focusing its attention across England and Wales

0:03:160:03:19

and Scotland, where it's been so miserable of late,

0:03:190:03:22

could potentially see drier

0:03:220:03:24

and quieter weather conditions.

0:03:240:03:26

That's a long way away.

0:03:260:03:27

Whatever you're doing,

0:03:270:03:28

enjoy Wednesday's sunshine.

0:03:280:03:30

Repeated warnings...

0:03:410:03:42

The Government thought it was the right thing to do.

0:03:420:03:44

..allegations and accusations...

0:03:440:03:46

They're going to make me the demon of Peckham.

0:03:460:03:48

With unprecedented access

0:03:480:03:50

to the decline and fall of a charity empire.
