Hello. The outlook since yesterday's Weather For The Week Ahead | 0:00:03 | 0:00:06
hasn't really changed, a lot of blustery weather on the way. | 0:00:06 | 0:00:08
In fact, for the next week or so, we'll see spells of rain | 0:00:08 | 0:00:12
and some really gusty winds, and I think the south | 0:00:12 | 0:00:14
particularly is going to get some really strong winds, | 0:00:14 | 0:00:16
because in the last few weeks or so | 0:00:16 | 0:00:18
we haven't seen frequent gales across the south at all. | 0:00:18 | 0:00:21
This is the broad message, | 0:00:21 | 0:00:23
low pressure after low pressure heading our way | 0:00:23 | 0:00:25
and a large swathe of strong winds waiting out there | 0:00:25 | 0:00:28
in the Atlantic accompanied by heavy, rain-bearing clouds, as well. | 0:00:28 | 0:00:33
So, this is the satellite picture in the last day or so, | 0:00:33 | 0:00:36
clouds churning away there, weather systems heading in our direction, | 0:00:36 | 0:00:39
and already from Saturday morning it's a case of gale-force | 0:00:39 | 0:00:43
winds around many of the south-western coasts | 0:00:43 | 0:00:45
and some pretty heavy rain. | 0:00:45 | 0:00:46
We could see up to 50, 60, | 0:00:46 | 0:00:48
maybe 70 millimetres of rain in the south-west | 0:00:48 | 0:00:50
and, on top of that, 50 to 60mph gusts, | 0:00:50 | 0:00:53
and some of these stronger ones will be also realised further | 0:00:53 | 0:00:56
inland, as well. | 0:00:56 | 0:00:58
Now, the heavy rain in the south-west will move | 0:00:58 | 0:01:00
eastwards through Saturday, | 0:01:00 | 0:01:02
so areas further east will also get some rain but not until later on. | 0:01:02 | 0:01:06
In fact, Saturday night, a really blustery end to the evening | 0:01:06 | 0:01:10
there, I think, across the east of the country. | 0:01:10 | 0:01:12
And then come Sunday, it's another very unsettled day, | 0:01:12 | 0:01:15
a mixture of sunshine, | 0:01:15 | 0:01:17
showers then sunshine again right from the word go, | 0:01:17 | 0:01:20
maybe some wintry ones across the higher ground in Scotland, and | 0:01:20 | 0:01:23
a really gusty sort of day, gales for sure around some of the coasts. | 0:01:23 | 0:01:27
Winds could be approaching again 60mph, inland around about 50, | 0:01:27 | 0:01:31
but there will be some sunshine around on Sunday. | 0:01:31 | 0:01:33
It's not looking too bad if you're sheltered from the wind | 0:01:33 | 0:01:35
and the showers. | 0:01:35 | 0:01:37
From the Midlands eastwards you could get a decent | 0:01:37 | 0:01:39
spell of brightness. | 0:01:39 | 0:01:40
Early next week, it's the same thing over and over again. | 0:01:40 | 0:01:43
It's like the weather's a stuck record. | 0:01:43 | 0:01:45
We keep getting low pressures off the Atlantic. | 0:01:45 | 0:01:47
In fact, this is still the same one that's sitting across the UK. | 0:01:47 | 0:01:51
A lot of lines here, these pressure lines, isobars, | 0:01:51 | 0:01:53
so that means a rush of wind racing in off the Atlantic. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:56
Here's Monday. Plenty of showers across western and southern areas. | 0:01:56 | 0:02:00
We'll get some in the east, but I think they'll be most frequent | 0:02:00 | 0:02:03
across the west and the south, and of course those strong gusts of wind | 0:02:03 | 0:02:06
buffeting us through the course of Monday. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:09
Tuesday, the wind changes direction a little bit. | 0:02:09 | 0:02:12
It briefly comes in from the north. It follows the isobars, | 0:02:12 | 0:02:15
so you can imagine the winds coming in from the north. | 0:02:15 | 0:02:17
That means it will turn briefly a little bit cooler across the | 0:02:17 | 0:02:20
northern half of the UK, five or six degrees, | 0:02:20 | 0:02:23
single-figure temperatures, in fact, for most of us, and | 0:02:23 | 0:02:25
it'll be another blustery day with a mixture of sunshine and showers. | 0:02:25 | 0:02:29
Now, something quieter is heading our way, but I think it's just going | 0:02:29 | 0:02:33
to be the one day next week, and at the moment it looks like Wednesday. | 0:02:33 | 0:02:37
But it's only a very small window of opportunity. | 0:02:37 | 0:02:40
We've got this mini area of high pressure over us, | 0:02:40 | 0:02:42
otherwise known as a ridge, and that's going to give us | 0:02:42 | 0:02:45
a fairly settled day with lighter winds but a cool one in the | 0:02:45 | 0:02:49
north, four or five degrees, just about nine or ten in the south. | 0:02:49 | 0:02:52
And then we start all over again. | 0:02:52 | 0:02:54
From the end of next week, this jet stream | 0:02:54 | 0:02:56
starts spawning more areas of low pressure, | 0:02:56 | 0:02:59
quite vigorous ones, as well, which means gusty winds. | 0:02:59 | 0:03:02
Gales are certainly a possibility. | 0:03:02 | 0:03:04
Now, yesterday I was suggesting that maybe towards the end of | 0:03:04 | 0:03:07
the week we could see some colder air sinking in from the north, but | 0:03:07 | 0:03:10
at the moment it does look as though the milder air is going to win. | 0:03:10 | 0:03:13
We are just going to be on the cusp of that cold and milder air, but | 0:03:13 | 0:03:17
the thing is that after this quieter spell midweek it does look as | 0:03:17 | 0:03:20
though those low pressures will once again start to | 0:03:20 | 0:03:23
bring in the mild, wet and windy weather once again. | 0:03:23 | 0:03:26
So just one day, Wednesday, we're thinking, should be the quieter day. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:29 |
