Hello there. Mother Nature is in very agitated form,

0:00:030:00:06

a pretty lively jet stream across the Atlantic firing one

0:00:060:00:09

low-pressure system after another, bringing more scenes like this,

0:00:090:00:12

recorded on the coast at Dorset on Saturday, over the next few days.

0:00:120:00:16

On the pressure chart for Sunday, we've got a deep area

0:00:160:00:19

of low pressure charging across the Atlantic to us.

0:00:190:00:21

That will bring especially stormy weather for Monday

0:00:210:00:23

across southern parts.

0:00:230:00:24

But for Sunday itself,

0:00:240:00:26

it's this area of low pressure which means

0:00:260:00:28

the focus for the strongest winds

0:00:280:00:29

are across Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern England,

0:00:290:00:32

50, 60mph gusts, easing through the afternoon,

0:00:320:00:34

but blustery across the board.

0:00:340:00:35

A brighter day for England and Wales, by and large,

0:00:350:00:38

a few lively showers, though, in the breeze

0:00:380:00:40

but a good deal of sunshine, too,

0:00:400:00:42

before things cloud over from the west, temperatures to

0:00:420:00:44

finish Sunday cooler than Saturday's at around five to ten degrees.

0:00:440:00:48

Now, quite quickly through Sunday night, rain will spread

0:00:480:00:51

eastwards across all parts, lively bursts of rain and gusty winds.

0:00:510:00:54

The strongest of the winds come with a sting in its tail -

0:00:540:00:57

the southern flank of this area of low pressure

0:00:570:00:59

as it barges its way into southern parts for Monday morning,

0:00:590:01:02

just to coincide with the rush hour.

0:01:020:01:04

We could see 50, 60, 70, maybe 80mph gusts,

0:01:040:01:06

particularly around some of

0:01:060:01:08

the hills and coasts of Wales and southern England.

0:01:080:01:10

But even inland, widespread gales through the morning,

0:01:100:01:13

lively showers, as well, and some very high seas to go with it.

0:01:130:01:17

So some potential disruption across southern areas on Monday.

0:01:170:01:20

By comparison, a different day in the far north of England, Scotland,

0:01:200:01:23

Northern Ireland, much lighter winds, barely a breeze for some,

0:01:230:01:26

a bit of sunshine here and there but one or two slow-moving showers.

0:01:260:01:29

The winds ease off a little through the afternoon across

0:01:290:01:32

southern parts of the UK,

0:01:320:01:33

but there'll still be lots of heavy showers

0:01:330:01:36

around, rumbles of thunder with it and feeling rather cool,

0:01:360:01:38

temperatures six to ten degrees,

0:01:380:01:40

of course exacerbated by the strength of the wind.

0:01:400:01:43

So, one low-pressure system slowly pushes away through Monday

0:01:430:01:46

night and into Tuesday,

0:01:460:01:47

but it does have an almost-twin on its back edge which could

0:01:470:01:51

strengthen winds through the night and into the morning

0:01:510:01:53

in Northern Ireland, Wales and south-west England again.

0:01:530:01:56

Not quite the levels we'll have seen on Monday,

0:01:560:01:58

but gales still possible once more,

0:01:580:02:00

and a weather front pushing southwards will bring

0:02:000:02:02

rain, a little bit of sleet and snow over the higher ground.

0:02:020:02:05

The real cold air is limited to the far north of Scotland at this stage.

0:02:050:02:08

Some drier and brighter weather potentially in the east,

0:02:080:02:11

where winds will be a little lighter.

0:02:110:02:13

Tuesday night into Wednesday,

0:02:130:02:14

that low-pressure system finally pulls away.

0:02:140:02:17

Still some strong winds in eastern areas,

0:02:170:02:19

maybe rain, sleet and snow showers as cold air works its way in.

0:02:190:02:22

It could be a frosty, icy start to Wednesday morning

0:02:220:02:25

but probably the quietest day of the week.

0:02:250:02:28

The strongest winds on eastern coasts. Elsewhere, light winds,

0:02:280:02:31

some sunshine around but a chilly day after that frosty and icy start.

0:02:310:02:34

There'll be areas of cloud and one or two showers,

0:02:340:02:36

not a completely dry day.

0:02:360:02:38

The brief respite, though, is fairly limited to one day only,

0:02:380:02:41

because the next low-pressure system pushes in for Thursday.

0:02:410:02:44

The exact position will be crucial.

0:02:440:02:46

It could be a little bit further north or south.

0:02:460:02:48

Why is it crucial? Well, it runs into cold air.

0:02:480:02:50

On its northern flank we'll see sleet and snow,

0:02:500:02:53

mainly across the hills of northern England and Scotland.

0:02:530:02:55

Heavy rain, strong winds elsewhere. The strongest winds will be

0:02:550:02:58

limited to the coasts, where again we could see some gales.

0:02:580:03:01

In the latter stages of the week, through the weekend into next week,

0:03:010:03:05

we still see a progression of low-pressure systems

0:03:050:03:07

pushing through on a very active jet stream,

0:03:070:03:09

maybe taking a little bit longer to get from one low pressure to

0:03:090:03:12

another, so some drier spells in-between.

0:03:120:03:15

And exactly where they push is crucial,

0:03:150:03:16

because on the northern flank we're likely to see snow.

0:03:160:03:19

But summing up the rest of the week into next week,

0:03:190:03:21

we've still got those wet, windy conditions over the next few days,

0:03:210:03:24

a quieter spell through midweek, then more wet

0:03:240:03:27

and windy weather next weekend and the start of next week. Bye for now.
