Well, after our stormy winter,

0:00:030:00:04

we were all desperate for some spring sunshine and warmth,

0:00:040:00:08

and we've had that so far this week -

0:00:080:00:10

in fact, on Monday,

0:00:100:00:11

it was Dumfries and Galloway that had the lion's share of both,

0:00:110:00:14

with 16 Celsius in south-west Scotland

0:00:140:00:17

and plenty of blue sky and sunshine to go with it.

0:00:170:00:19

Different story, though, across parts of East Anglia -

0:00:190:00:22

on the north Norfolk coast,

0:00:220:00:24

just a disappointing 7 Celsius

0:00:240:00:26

with a stiff easterly wind,

0:00:260:00:28

and that wind still there during Tuesday,

0:00:280:00:31

driving in more cloud

0:00:310:00:32

and perhaps the odd spot or two of drizzle,

0:00:320:00:35

after a pretty murky start as well.

0:00:350:00:37

Hopefully, we'll see a slow improvement

0:00:370:00:39

into the afternoon,

0:00:390:00:40

but west will certainly remain best

0:00:400:00:42

in terms of sunshine and warmth -

0:00:420:00:44

again, we could see those temperatures

0:00:440:00:46

into the mid-teens.

0:00:460:00:47

Always colder along the North Sea coast,

0:00:470:00:49

where we keep the cloud, the drizzle,

0:00:490:00:51

and maybe some hill and coastal fog.

0:00:510:00:53

Now, as we move out of Tuesday into Wednesday,

0:00:530:00:56

we'll see a weather front

0:00:560:00:57

pushing in from the continent -

0:00:570:00:58

unusual, cos they normally come in from the Atlantic.

0:00:580:01:01

That's going to introduce more in the way of cloud

0:01:010:01:03

and, again, the cloud thick enough

0:01:030:01:05

for the odd spot or two of drizzle.

0:01:050:01:07

A bit of a nuisance - windscreen wipers on or off? -

0:01:070:01:10

but eventually, we'll see an improving picture

0:01:100:01:12

down to the south-east, more sunshine here.

0:01:120:01:14

We keep some sunshine into the north-west,

0:01:140:01:16

the cloud just sitting in-between.

0:01:160:01:18

The high pressure remains in the driving seat

0:01:180:01:21

throughout the week, so there's going to be

0:01:210:01:23

little significant rainfall in the weather story.

0:01:230:01:26

Still got that front there, a bit of a nuisance,

0:01:260:01:28

but eventually it will die away,

0:01:280:01:30

and we'll see a fair amount of cloud around

0:01:300:01:33

on Thursday, perhaps the best of the sunshine

0:01:330:01:35

reserved for the far south-west.

0:01:350:01:37

Temperatures starting to dip down a little

0:01:370:01:40

as the winds pick up further north.

0:01:400:01:42

The high pressure stays with us again into Friday,

0:01:420:01:45

but there will be a noticeable difference

0:01:450:01:46

in the feel of the weather story

0:01:460:01:48

across the north of the country,

0:01:480:01:49

with winds freshening up from a north-westerly,

0:01:490:01:52

then temperatures are going to struggle

0:01:520:01:54

in comparison to earlier on in the week.

0:01:540:01:56

The south-west, perhaps,

0:01:560:01:57

seeing the best of the sunshine,

0:01:570:01:58

and look - likely to see temperatures

0:01:580:02:01

generally at around 6-9 degrees.

0:02:010:02:03

So a coolish feel, still.

0:02:030:02:04

As we move into the weekend,

0:02:040:02:07

still a largely dry theme,

0:02:070:02:08

still relatively settled.

0:02:080:02:10

That high pressure's starting to drift

0:02:100:02:12

its way westwards -

0:02:120:02:13

an indication of what's to come -

0:02:130:02:15

but the timings always subject to change.

0:02:150:02:17

Once high pressure

0:02:170:02:19

becomes firmly ensconced across the UK,

0:02:190:02:21

toppling it out of the way is not easy.

0:02:210:02:23

But, again, pretty windy

0:02:230:02:25

and cooler into the far north

0:02:250:02:27

as we move towards the weekend.

0:02:270:02:29

Now, as we move into next week -

0:02:290:02:31

that'll be the final week of March -

0:02:310:02:33

it looks as though we are going

0:02:330:02:35

to continue to see, again,

0:02:350:02:36

a good deal of dry weather

0:02:360:02:37

to start with in the story,

0:02:370:02:39

but there are signs

0:02:390:02:40

of things starting to change.

0:02:400:02:42

This has been the set-up so far,

0:02:420:02:43

with high pressure across the UK

0:02:430:02:45

and the Jet Stream diverted

0:02:450:02:47

across the north, and that's meant that

0:02:470:02:50

the low pressures have been

0:02:500:02:51

to the north of the Jet Stream,

0:02:510:02:53

or across the Mediterranean,

0:02:530:02:55

but it looks as though the high

0:02:550:02:56

is set to continue to drift

0:02:560:02:57

its way steadily westwards,

0:02:570:02:59

across to Northern Ireland,

0:02:590:03:00

and that may allow areas

0:03:000:03:02

of low pressure to move

0:03:020:03:03

into the north-east,

0:03:030:03:04

so we could eventually start to see

0:03:040:03:06

some outbreaks of rain

0:03:060:03:08

and a slow deterioration.

0:03:080:03:09

It is only a potential at the moment,

0:03:090:03:12

and it's certainly subject to change, so for late March,

0:03:120:03:15

we still keep the theme, generally,

0:03:150:03:17

of mainly dry with a few subtle changes,

0:03:170:03:19

potentially turning wetter

0:03:190:03:21

from the north-east eventually.

0:03:210:03:23

As I say, subject to change,

0:03:230:03:25

and Alex Deakin will have more on that tomorrow.
