03/07/2016 Weather for the Week Ahead

It's been another unsettled week.

We've had plenty of interruptions to play at Wimbledon, for instance.

That's really continued the theme of much of the month of June.

Now we're into July,

taking a quick look back at the provisional statistics.

It was a dull and a damp month. Slightly warmer than average.

And the sunniest of the weather was found across Shetland.

But many of us were lacking the sunshine.

Here's a picture taken by one of our weather watchers on Saturday.

The first half of the weekend brought that typical mix

of sunshine and heavy showers across much of the country.

Onto Sunday, it will be the better day of the weekend.

So I think fewer showers, lighter winds,

and a bit more in the way of sunshine.

Bit of showery rain for a time along the English Channel.

That could affect the Channel Isles, the Isle of Wight,

the far south coast.

And some showers also still for Scotland,

where it will be quite breezy.

But elsewhere across the UK, lots of dry weather,

and temperatures ranging between around about 15 to 22 degrees.

It will feel pleasant with the light winds and the sunshine,

particularly in the south.

But we haven't quite lost that unsettled theme

as we head through Sunday night into the new working week,

as this waving weather front starts to move in from the Atlantic.

There's some uncertainty about the behaviour of this front.

But it looks like we'll see a spell of rain initially

for parts of Wales, perhaps pushing through the Midlands,

up towards northern England for a time, too.

To the south of that, it's a drier story,

and with the south-westerly breeze,

feeling quite warm and humid at around 21 degrees.

Further north, to the north of the front,

a little bit fresher feel to things with sunshine and showers.

But early through this coming week, it looks like humid air will start

to just drift in from the south-west,

bringing a different feel to the weather.

Although temperatures not too dissimilar from the past few days.

That humidity will bring a different feel.

A bit of a muggy feel at times, and the more humid conditions

could just spark a few heavy showers and thunderstorms,

perhaps, on Tuesday, across some south-eastern areas.

Sunshine and showers,

but I think a lot of dry weather in between any of the showers.

16 to 22 degrees.

Looking on into the middle of the week, we've got this ridge

of high pressure which is pushing in from the south-west,

so that will quieten things down.

I think most places going to be dry on Wednesday.

We can't rule out perhaps one or two showers lingering in the east.

Perhaps a bit of rain in the far north-west also,

but I think for much of the country,

light winds and a largely dry day to come on Wednesday,

with highs around about 14 to 22 Celsius.

A similar picture on Thursday - high pressure still holding on,

particularly across England and Wales.

We could well see the breeze picking up cloud moving in

and outbreaks of rain later on for Northern Ireland and for Scotland.

But we've still got the relatively warm

and humid conditions further south-east.

As we look towards the end of the week, then, Thursday into Friday,

a weather front heading in towards the north-west,

and high pressure holding on towards the south-east.

That means we've got this south-westerly flow of air

as we head towards the latter part of this coming week.

Weather fronts moving in on that south-westerly breeze.

It's likely we'll see spells of rain, windy conditions at times,

particularly towards the north-west of the country.

Less windy, drier, and warmer weather holding on

towards the south-east later in the week.

Looking even further ahead, on into next weekend,

it looks like those weather fronts

will move their way across the country,

once again introducing fresher conditions,

a little bit like this one, across all parts,

with that mix of sunshine and showers set to return.

Fairly similar to how we started the period.

So, looking ahead over the next ten days or so,

all in all, here's a summary.

Staying unsettled, with spells of rain or showers.

It will be humid at times, particularly in the south-east,

but it's also towards the south-east

that we should see the driest and the warmest conditions at times.
