Hello. It's been another unsettled week weather-wise. | 0:00:03 | 0:00:05
We've had plenty of showers, | 0:00:05 | 0:00:06
lots of interruptions to play for the first week at Wimbledon. | 0:00:06 | 0:00:09
But as we have a look through the week ahead, | 0:00:09 | 0:00:11
things are quietening down somewhat. | 0:00:11 | 0:00:13
We'll have a little bit more in the way of sunshine, | 0:00:13 | 0:00:16
less rain around, and temperatures recovering, | 0:00:16 | 0:00:18
so things will start to feel a little bit warmer for a time | 0:00:18 | 0:00:21
through the course of the week ahead. | 0:00:21 | 0:00:23
We start off Monday, plenty of dry and sunny weather | 0:00:23 | 0:00:26
for much of the UK, particularly in the east. | 0:00:26 | 0:00:28
You'll notice this area of rain initially across Northern Ireland. | 0:00:28 | 0:00:31
That will head its way eastwards across southern Scotland, | 0:00:31 | 0:00:34
northern England and the north-west of Wales during the afternoon. | 0:00:34 | 0:00:37
To the south of that, 21 degrees. | 0:00:37 | 0:00:39
After a sunny start, things will cloud over across England and Wales. | 0:00:39 | 0:00:42
Fresher conditions to the north of that weather front, | 0:00:42 | 0:00:45
with a mix of sunshine and showers. | 0:00:45 | 0:00:47
Moving through Monday evening and overnight, | 0:00:47 | 0:00:49
this area of rain gradually drifts off towards the east, | 0:00:49 | 0:00:52
but it will leave behind it | 0:00:52 | 0:00:53
a legacy of quite a lot of low cloud, some drizzle, | 0:00:53 | 0:00:56
and some hill fog to start the day on Tuesday. | 0:00:56 | 0:00:58
So I think Tuesday, for many of us, | 0:00:58 | 0:01:00
will dawn on a little bit of a murky note, | 0:01:00 | 0:01:02
but it will be a rapidly improving weather story. | 0:01:02 | 0:01:04
As we head through Tuesday, | 0:01:04 | 0:01:06
that low pressure that brought the rain on Monday | 0:01:06 | 0:01:08
will push away towards the east, | 0:01:08 | 0:01:09
and that opens the doors for higher pressure | 0:01:09 | 0:01:11
to start to move in from the south-west. | 0:01:11 | 0:01:14
So, during Tuesday, we're still expecting a few showers | 0:01:14 | 0:01:16
for parts of Scotland, perhaps eastern England, too. | 0:01:16 | 0:01:19
The showers should ease during the day | 0:01:19 | 0:01:21
as higher pressure builds from the west. | 0:01:21 | 0:01:23
And with the light winds, 22 or 23 degrees or so. | 0:01:23 | 0:01:25
Should feel quite pleasant in the south, the mid- to the high teens. | 0:01:25 | 0:01:28
That little bit fresher further north. | 0:01:28 | 0:01:30
Moving through into the middle part of the week, | 0:01:30 | 0:01:32
we'll start to see these Atlantic weather systems | 0:01:32 | 0:01:35
trying to push in towards the north-west, | 0:01:35 | 0:01:37
but they're bumping into this ridge of high pressure. | 0:01:37 | 0:01:39
That high pressure brings not only drier conditions, | 0:01:39 | 0:01:42
but also warmer air and more humid air | 0:01:42 | 0:01:44
that piles in from the south-west, | 0:01:44 | 0:01:46
bringing a different feel to the weather than we've seen recently. | 0:01:46 | 0:01:50
A little bit warmer, a little bit more humid for Wednesday. | 0:01:50 | 0:01:53
Plenty of sunshine on offer. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:55
Rather more cloud in the north-west, a bit breezy. | 0:01:55 | 0:01:57
There could be the odd spot of rain | 0:01:57 | 0:01:59
for parts of Northern Ireland and western Scotland. | 0:01:59 | 0:02:01
England and Wales staying dry at around 22 or 23 degrees. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:04
Heading through into the second half of the week. | 0:02:04 | 0:02:06
We'll start to see these low-pressure systems | 0:02:06 | 0:02:09
just nudging these fronts into northern | 0:02:09 | 0:02:11
and western parts of the UK. | 0:02:11 | 0:02:13
So I think on Thursday, | 0:02:13 | 0:02:14
fairly cloudy and breezy for Scotland and Northern Ireland. | 0:02:14 | 0:02:17
There could be some spells of rain. | 0:02:17 | 0:02:18
England and Wales are more likely to stay | 0:02:18 | 0:02:20
with the drier and brighter weather, | 0:02:20 | 0:02:22
with temperatures ranging between around 17 to 23 degrees. | 0:02:22 | 0:02:25
So certainly those temperatures will be on the rise later in the week. | 0:02:25 | 0:02:29
Looking towards the end of the week, on into Friday now. | 0:02:29 | 0:02:31
Low pressure again trying to move in, | 0:02:31 | 0:02:34
but once again, it's bumping into that ridge of high pressure | 0:02:34 | 0:02:36
that holds on across much of the country for Friday. | 0:02:36 | 0:02:39
Friday's shaping up to be a pretty decent day, then. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:41
Light winds, sunny spells. 24 or 25 degrees. | 0:02:41 | 0:02:44
Could be the warmest day of the week. | 0:02:44 | 0:02:46
And then further ahead, | 0:02:46 | 0:02:48
so we're now looking at next weekend and beyond. | 0:02:48 | 0:02:51
We'll start to see the jet stream strengthening from the Atlantic, | 0:02:51 | 0:02:54
moving its way west to east, | 0:02:54 | 0:02:56
and that will give a little bit more drive to these weather systems | 0:02:56 | 0:02:59
that are trying to push in from the Atlantic. | 0:02:59 | 0:03:01
So it looks like, further ahead in the period, | 0:03:01 | 0:03:04
we will start to see low-pressure systems in the Atlantic | 0:03:04 | 0:03:06
moving their way from west to east across much of the country. | 0:03:06 | 0:03:10
That high pressure just about slipping away | 0:03:10 | 0:03:13
towards the near constant. | 0:03:13 | 0:03:14
So after a relatively dry and warm week, | 0:03:14 | 0:03:16
we are looking at windy, cooler conditions developing, | 0:03:16 | 0:03:19
with some rain at times. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:21
But it looks like we'll hold on to the driest and the brightest | 0:03:21 | 0:03:23
of the conditions towards the south and the south-east. | 0:03:23 | 0:03:26
We'll update you, once again, here tomorrow. Bye-bye. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:29
Gregg and Chris are back to help us slash the weekly food bill. | 0:03:32 | 0:03:35
Let's get to work. | 0:03:35 | 0:03:36
They'll look at the mistakes we make... | 0:03:36 | 0:03:37 |
