Hello. As we saw yesterday, | 0:00:03 | 0:00:04
the stats for June didn't look particularly great | 0:00:04 | 0:00:06
as far as summer-like weather is concerned, | 0:00:06 | 0:00:08
but why have things been a little bit short of what you'd want | 0:00:08 | 0:00:11
this time of year? Well, let's take us back to June. | 0:00:11 | 0:00:13
Absence of a strong jet stream, | 0:00:13 | 0:00:15
low pressure got stuck to the south-east of the country, | 0:00:15 | 0:00:17
bringing in some warmth at times, but also acted as a breeding ground | 0:00:17 | 0:00:20
for the big storms and, of course, some of that flooding we saw. | 0:00:20 | 0:00:23
By the end of June and into the start of July, | 0:00:23 | 0:00:25
we have to turn our attention to the west coast of the United States. | 0:00:25 | 0:00:28
North Pacific - area of high pressure in charge here and that | 0:00:28 | 0:00:31
has sent the jet stream a little bit further north across North America. | 0:00:31 | 0:00:34
It's lacking ripples too | 0:00:34 | 0:00:36
and as it's pushed off the east coast of the United States, | 0:00:36 | 0:00:38
warm air to the south of it, | 0:00:38 | 0:00:40
cold air to the north has sped it up and forces this strong | 0:00:40 | 0:00:43
and fairly flat jet stream across the Atlantic to our shores, | 0:00:43 | 0:00:47
bringing low pressure system after low pressure system | 0:00:47 | 0:00:49
and, of course, with it, | 0:00:49 | 0:00:51
the rain and at times gusty winds. | 0:00:51 | 0:00:52
One such low pressure system | 0:00:52 | 0:00:54
on Wednesday hits the north-west of the UK, | 0:00:54 | 0:00:55
bringing some drizzle, nothing more than that, | 0:00:55 | 0:00:58
to parts of Northern Ireland | 0:00:58 | 0:00:59
and something damper to western Scotland to the end of the day. | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
One or two showers in western England and Wales, but elsewhere, | 0:01:01 | 0:01:04
after a chilly start for the early risers, quite a pleasant day. | 0:01:04 | 0:01:07
Best of the sunshine in the morning | 0:01:07 | 0:01:08
turning hazy through the afternoon and feeling a bit milder, | 0:01:08 | 0:01:11
starting to drag in slightly more humid air on south-westerly winds. | 0:01:11 | 0:01:14
Those winds with us through Wednesday night into Thursday, | 0:01:14 | 0:01:17
a wet night across Scotland | 0:01:17 | 0:01:18
and Northern Ireland to begin with, | 0:01:18 | 0:01:20
some of that damp weather into northern England and Wales later on, | 0:01:20 | 0:01:23
but compared with what we'll have seen on Tuesday night, | 0:01:23 | 0:01:25
temperatures much, much higher, | 0:01:25 | 0:01:27
some parts not falling below the teens. | 0:01:27 | 0:01:29
So into Thursday and the end of the week - | 0:01:29 | 0:01:31
we've got a run of south-westerly winds | 0:01:31 | 0:01:33
coming all the way up from the mid-Atlantic. | 0:01:33 | 0:01:36
Lots of cloud tangled in that and a straggling weather front | 0:01:36 | 0:01:39
for Thursday across this central portion of the UK. | 0:01:39 | 0:01:41
Northern England, the Midlands, | 0:01:41 | 0:01:43
Wales most likely to see predominantly cloudy conditions, | 0:01:43 | 0:01:45
some occasional rain or drizzle in western hills. | 0:01:45 | 0:01:47
North of that, some sunshine. | 0:01:47 | 0:01:49
Maybe above 20 degrees in eastern Scotland, | 0:01:49 | 0:01:51
22 or 23 in the south-east corner, | 0:01:51 | 0:01:53
where again it stays dry with some hazy sunshine. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:55
Wetter conditions through the night across the northern half of the UK. | 0:01:55 | 0:01:58
Still some weather fronts to take us into Friday. | 0:01:58 | 0:02:01
Friday's sort of an in-between day. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:02
We may start with cloud | 0:02:02 | 0:02:03
and outbreaks of rain just about anywhere. | 0:02:03 | 0:02:05
A few heavy showers later, but there will be some drier | 0:02:05 | 0:02:08
and brighter weather later with some sunshine at times too. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:10
Then into the weekend - | 0:02:10 | 0:02:12
let's return to the east coast, | 0:02:12 | 0:02:13
this time of the United States. | 0:02:13 | 0:02:15
The storms that were there on July 4th across the likes | 0:02:15 | 0:02:18
of Kentucky now into this mass of cloud off the eastern seaboard. | 0:02:18 | 0:02:23
It's a developing area of low pressure picked up by that | 0:02:23 | 0:02:25
flat jet stream and developed quite rapidly | 0:02:25 | 0:02:28
for the end of the week, | 0:02:28 | 0:02:29
so by Saturday, the start of the weekend, | 0:02:29 | 0:02:31
it's quite a nasty area of low pressure | 0:02:31 | 0:02:32
to the north-west of the UK. | 0:02:32 | 0:02:34
What that means is we're likely to see strong winds, | 0:02:34 | 0:02:37
parts of Ireland, north-western UK. | 0:02:37 | 0:02:39
Gales in places, rain through the day, | 0:02:39 | 0:02:41
a scattering of showers across other western areas, | 0:02:41 | 0:02:43
but the winds coming in from the south-west to south means | 0:02:43 | 0:02:46
that across eastern areas, a bit of sunshine. | 0:02:46 | 0:02:48
We could actually see temperatures hit 26 degrees for some. | 0:02:48 | 0:02:51
Fairly humid air tied up with this low pressure system. | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
That, though, is swept off into the near continent as we go into Sunday. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:56
Low pressure still in charge. | 0:02:56 | 0:02:58
Expect showers just about anywhere, | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
pushing through on what will be quite a blustery day. | 0:03:00 | 0:03:02
Still the winds coming in from a west or south-westerly direction, | 0:03:02 | 0:03:06
so it won't be an especially cold day, | 0:03:06 | 0:03:07
but feeling a little less humid than Saturday will have done. | 0:03:07 | 0:03:10
Pleasant enough in the sunshine, out the breeze, | 0:03:10 | 0:03:12
but always cooler as those showers go through, | 0:03:12 | 0:03:14
and with that jet stream still in place into next week, | 0:03:14 | 0:03:17
just remember we're going to continue to see those | 0:03:17 | 0:03:19
ever-changing skies we've been used to over the past week or so. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:22
Warm in the sunshine where you get it, but every so often, | 0:03:22 | 0:03:25
a little bit cooler when the showers roll in | 0:03:25 | 0:03:27
and the breeze picks up. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:28
More tomorrow, see you then. | 0:03:28 | 0:03:30
Beans, beans, beans. Up on the... | 0:03:31 | 0:03:33
Beans, beans, beans, beans, beans, beans, beans. | 0:03:33 | 0:03:36
Does he keep saying "beans"? Wa-ay! | 0:03:36 | 0:03:38
THUD Oh, my goodness! | 0:03:38 | 0:03:39
Are you all right? | 0:03:40 | 0:03:41
..things don't turn out quite as you'd expected. | 0:03:41 | 0:03:41
Just when you think you've got it all sorted... | 0:03:41 | 0:03:43
I love you. | 0:03:43 | 0:03:44
It's all under control. | 0:03:44 | 0:03:45 |
