Hello. You may have heard news there's a heatwave on the way.

0:00:030:00:05

If you regularly catch this forecast, you will be aware of that

0:00:050:00:08

and certainly over the next few days the weather will bear no resemblance

0:00:080:00:11

to what we saw during the first half of July,

0:00:110:00:14

which much like summer 2016 so far

0:00:140:00:16

was cloudier, duller than average

0:00:160:00:18

and in the first 14 days

0:00:180:00:20

of the month nowhere

0:00:200:00:21

reached 25 Celsius.

0:00:210:00:22

Now that changed at the weekend,

0:00:220:00:24

hotspots got into the upper 20s.

0:00:240:00:25

Now some places are about to get into the 30s

0:00:250:00:28

for the hottest weather of the year so far.

0:00:280:00:31

The heat already building as high pressure nudges

0:00:310:00:33

northwards across the UK

0:00:330:00:35

and that means for many on Monday

0:00:350:00:37

some very warm to hot sunshine.

0:00:370:00:38

Murky start with mist and fog

0:00:380:00:40

parts of Wales,

0:00:400:00:41

south-west England things will improve.

0:00:410:00:43

Though coastal parts here,

0:00:430:00:44

maybe along the English Channel

0:00:440:00:46

run the risk of poor visibility

0:00:460:00:47

and some patchy sea fog at times.

0:00:470:00:49

And northern Scotland,

0:00:490:00:50

you're close to a weather front,

0:00:500:00:51

so still here you're getting

0:00:510:00:52

outbreaks of rain for one more day

0:00:520:00:55

and maybe just 15, 16 Celsius,

0:00:550:00:56

whereas elsewhere

0:00:560:00:57

low to mid 20s, high 20s to near 30

0:00:570:01:00

in the hotspots in England,

0:01:000:01:01

for the Channel Islands as well.

0:01:010:01:03

Now by Tuesday we're importing extra heat from the continent.

0:01:030:01:07

In France somewhere may get around 40 Celsius on Tuesday.

0:01:070:01:10

We're not going to be that hot, but the hotspots

0:01:100:01:13

breaking 30 Celsius, particularly in an area from Birmingham to London.

0:01:130:01:17

But across the UK the warmest places,

0:01:170:01:19

the hottest places upper 20s and low 30s.

0:01:190:01:21

Of course the beaches will be a bit more refreshing

0:01:210:01:24

or manageable in terms of that heat,

0:01:240:01:26

plenty of sunshine.

0:01:260:01:27

These are your spot location temperatures for Tuesday,

0:01:270:01:29

but as I showed you just a bit earlier,

0:01:290:01:31

some places will get higher than that.

0:01:310:01:33

Of course it's not everyone's cup of tea,

0:01:330:01:35

it comes to with high to very high UV levels, high pollen,

0:01:350:01:38

briefly deteriorating air quality,

0:01:380:01:40

though that does recover later this week

0:01:400:01:42

and some stifling nights as well.

0:01:420:01:44

These are temperatures Tuesday night

0:01:440:01:46

and into Wednesday morning.

0:01:460:01:48

That's tough for sleeping.

0:01:480:01:49

So if it isn't your cup of tea, you'll be saying,

0:01:490:01:51

"When's the thunderstorm coming? When will it end?"

0:01:510:01:54

You don't have to wait too long.

0:01:540:01:55

We've got a weather disturbance

0:01:550:01:57

coming in Tuesday night and into Wednesday

0:01:570:01:59

and that runs the risk of some disruptive,

0:01:590:02:01

torrential thundery downpours

0:02:010:02:03

from the end of Tuesday, Tuesday night

0:02:030:02:05

and on through Wednesday,

0:02:050:02:06

particularly through western

0:02:060:02:08

and northern parts of the United Kingdom,

0:02:080:02:10

but nowhere completely immune

0:02:100:02:11

from catching a thundery downpour.

0:02:110:02:13

So watch this space,

0:02:130:02:14

we'll keep updating things for you,

0:02:140:02:16

but the heat is still very much

0:02:160:02:17

there across south-eastern parts of England

0:02:170:02:19

for one more day, but as we go into Thursday,

0:02:190:02:22

we've cut off that flow of really hot air from the continent.

0:02:220:02:25

We're starting to look to the Atlantic

0:02:250:02:27

once again for our weather.

0:02:270:02:28

Bit of a transition day,

0:02:280:02:29

though, on Thursday

0:02:290:02:30

and a quieter day as well.

0:02:300:02:32

Yes, one or two showers around,

0:02:320:02:33

but many places will be dry,

0:02:330:02:34

some sunny spells and those temperatures

0:02:340:02:36

have come down a few degrees

0:02:360:02:38

and then very much by Friday,

0:02:380:02:40

it's the Atlantic weather taking over once again.

0:02:400:02:42

No potent weapon systems coming our way,

0:02:420:02:45

bits of energy coming in,

0:02:450:02:47

producing by Friday more showers

0:02:470:02:48

compared with Thursday,

0:02:480:02:50

some heavy ones but not as heavy

0:02:500:02:51

as the ones we're expecting

0:02:510:02:52

Tuesday night and into Wednesday.

0:02:520:02:54

Now going into the weekend, well,

0:02:540:02:55

I showed you the airflow earlier from the hot continent.

0:02:550:02:58

By the weekend, follow the arrows,

0:02:580:03:00

very much coming in from the Atlantic,

0:03:000:03:01

so temperatures have come down and it's changeable weather

0:03:010:03:04

taking over once again into next week, occasionally dry, sunny,

0:03:040:03:07

occasionally showery

0:03:070:03:08

and temperatures close to average,

0:03:080:03:10

high teens, low 20s.

0:03:100:03:12

So summer heat at last,

0:03:120:03:13

but because this forecast

0:03:130:03:15

looks further ahead

0:03:150:03:17

than the others,

0:03:170:03:18

we can already see a return

0:03:180:03:19

to summer mediocrity.

0:03:190:03:20

To give, then take away so quickly may seem like misery making.

0:03:200:03:25

No, no, we call it meteorology. Bye-bye.
