Well, thanks for joining me. | 0:00:03 | 0:00:05
There's not been much change to our extended weather outlook since | 0:00:05 | 0:00:08
our weather forecast for the week ahead yesterday. | 0:00:08 | 0:00:11
Essentially, the weekend's going to be relatively cool across | 0:00:11 | 0:00:14
many western areas of the country but briefly warming up across | 0:00:14 | 0:00:18
the south-east of the country, where temperatures could actually | 0:00:18 | 0:00:20
nudge up to 29 degrees Celsius in London on Saturday. | 0:00:20 | 0:00:25
Now, we've had a fairly decent end to the working week. | 0:00:25 | 0:00:28
This is Friday's satellite picture. | 0:00:28 | 0:00:30
Quite a bit of sunshine, but then clouds bubbled up, | 0:00:30 | 0:00:33
we had a few showers around across Merseyside, northern parts of | 0:00:33 | 0:00:36
England and also one or two scattered showers across | 0:00:36 | 0:00:38
parts of the south-east. | 0:00:38 | 0:00:40
After a dry night, many of us waking up to some sunshine, | 0:00:40 | 0:00:43
but the weather will go downhill across western areas during | 0:00:43 | 0:00:46
the morning and into the afternoon, | 0:00:46 | 0:00:48
so that means across Northern Ireland and Scotland around | 0:00:48 | 0:00:51
the middle of the afternoon it's looking pretty damp, | 0:00:51 | 0:00:54
temperatures here on the modest side, around 17 degrees Celsius. | 0:00:54 | 0:00:57
This is much fresher Atlantic air, | 0:00:57 | 0:01:00
a polar, maritime air mass, if you remember your geography. | 0:01:00 | 0:01:04
And also we've got bits and pieces of light rain here across | 0:01:04 | 0:01:07
western parts of Wales and down into the south-west of England. | 0:01:07 | 0:01:10
But for the south-east, actually, | 0:01:10 | 0:01:11
and much of the Midlands, East Anglia, it'll be very, very warm. | 0:01:11 | 0:01:15
Temperatures could actually peak at around 29 degrees Celsius in London. | 0:01:15 | 0:01:19
For Saturday evening, not much change, | 0:01:19 | 0:01:22
so western areas hang on to some of that cloud with | 0:01:22 | 0:01:24
a few spots of rain, and one or two showers in other places, as well. | 0:01:24 | 0:01:28
Here's Sunday's weather outlook. | 0:01:28 | 0:01:29
Another weather front pushed by a very weak jet stream, | 0:01:29 | 0:01:32
which we'll have a look at in a second. | 0:01:32 | 0:01:34
This rain is going to nudge into Northern Ireland early in the | 0:01:34 | 0:01:36
morning and then eventually move into parts of Scotland, | 0:01:36 | 0:01:40
also Wales and down into the south-west, so quite a distinct | 0:01:40 | 0:01:43
difference between the weather here in the east and also the west. | 0:01:43 | 0:01:47
The west will remain fresh, temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees, | 0:01:47 | 0:01:50
still around 26 for London and for Norwich. | 0:01:50 | 0:01:53
By far again the best of the weather will be across the south-east. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:56
Now, early next week we are anticipating | 0:01:56 | 0:01:58
a shot of slightly cooler air from northern parts of the Atlantic, | 0:01:58 | 0:02:02
so that means many of these northern and western areas will be in | 0:02:02 | 0:02:04
the teens, whereas the south-east just about hanging on to | 0:02:04 | 0:02:08
temperatures into perhaps the mid 20s, at the very least the low 20s. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:12
So, a day of sunshine and showers, quite breezy. | 0:02:12 | 0:02:14
There's a low pressure centred on Monday just to the north of | 0:02:14 | 0:02:17
Scotland, all around Scotland, and here around, say, 16 to 18, | 0:02:17 | 0:02:20
which is actually not bad, | 0:02:20 | 0:02:22
and temperatures of around 23 again for London and Norwich. | 0:02:22 | 0:02:26
And then, come Tuesday, | 0:02:26 | 0:02:27
it looks as though this ridge of high pressure starts to sort of | 0:02:27 | 0:02:30
make inroads across more southern and central areas of the UK, | 0:02:30 | 0:02:33
whereas in the north-west we keep getting these little areas of | 0:02:33 | 0:02:36
low pressure nibbling on the north-west of the country. | 0:02:36 | 0:02:39
So, this is the kind of pattern that we're really anticipating for | 0:02:39 | 0:02:43
most of the week, so these weak weather systems being again | 0:02:43 | 0:02:46
pushed by this weak jet stream. | 0:02:46 | 0:02:48
I showed you this graphic yesterday. There's no reason to change it. | 0:02:48 | 0:02:51
It is a very weak jet stream | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
that's, where the weather fronts are produced, pushing them | 0:02:53 | 0:02:56
in our direction, | 0:02:56 | 0:02:57
whereas more southern areas holding on to that more settled weather. | 0:02:57 | 0:03:01
And actually, this jet stream of course extends across the Atlantic, | 0:03:01 | 0:03:04
all the way into Canada. | 0:03:04 | 0:03:06
It almost sort of domes northwards across this part of the world, | 0:03:06 | 0:03:09
so it's way to the north. You can hardly see it here, it's so weak. | 0:03:09 | 0:03:12
To the south we've got some major heat, | 0:03:12 | 0:03:14
which is continuing to build across many areas of the United States. | 0:03:14 | 0:03:19
So, next week, I think, back here across the UK, | 0:03:19 | 0:03:22
it's going to be pretty much what we'd expect this time of the year, | 0:03:22 | 0:03:25
so neither particularly hot nor particularly cool with some | 0:03:25 | 0:03:28
sunshine and a bit of rain from time to time. | 0:03:28 | 0:03:31
We're brave, aren't we? Yes, I am. | 0:03:33 | 0:03:36 |
