Hello, there. Earlier in the week we had the warmest day | 0:00:03 | 0:00:05
of the year so far, | 0:00:05 | 0:00:06
with temperatures just shy of 34 Celsius. | 0:00:06 | 0:00:08
We're going to be ending the working week, though, | 0:00:08 | 0:00:11
on a fresher note - | 0:00:11 | 0:00:12
so, this is how Friday's shaping up, then. | 0:00:12 | 0:00:14
After overnight heavy showers | 0:00:14 | 0:00:16
and thunderstorms for many of us, | 0:00:16 | 0:00:18
Friday looks like a largely dry day, | 0:00:18 | 0:00:20
particularly across England and Wales. | 0:00:20 | 0:00:21
Light winds, sunshine and temperatures | 0:00:21 | 0:00:23
between around 20 to 25 degrees, | 0:00:23 | 0:00:25
but less humid than recent days. | 0:00:25 | 0:00:27
Northern Ireland and Scotland seeing some sunshine, too, | 0:00:27 | 0:00:30
but one or two blustery showers. | 0:00:30 | 0:00:31
Now, moving through into the weekend, | 0:00:31 | 0:00:33
it looks like we'll start off | 0:00:33 | 0:00:35
with high pressure in charge, | 0:00:35 | 0:00:36
but it's not sticking around - | 0:00:36 | 0:00:38
you see this frontal system, that's a warm front, | 0:00:38 | 0:00:40
which will be heading its way northwards, | 0:00:40 | 0:00:42
so, pushing out of the near continent - | 0:00:42 | 0:00:44
and behind that, to the south of that, | 0:00:44 | 0:00:46
will draw in some fairly warm air | 0:00:46 | 0:00:47
from France, from Spain, too. | 0:00:47 | 0:00:49
So, that means temperatures on the rise once again, | 0:00:49 | 0:00:51
and it will feel quite warm and humid | 0:00:51 | 0:00:53
across southern areas - | 0:00:53 | 0:00:55
but we're going to be seeing some cloud | 0:00:55 | 0:00:56
and some outbreaks of rain. | 0:00:56 | 0:00:58
Now, initially, that rain will be | 0:00:58 | 0:00:59
for southern counties of England, | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
pushing further north through the course of Saturday. | 0:01:01 | 0:01:04
So, potentially, the Midlands, South Wales | 0:01:04 | 0:01:06
will see some outbreaks of rain - | 0:01:06 | 0:01:07
humid to the south of that, 24 degrees or so. | 0:01:07 | 0:01:09
Fresher further north, with just a few showers - | 0:01:09 | 0:01:12
but actually still a lot of dry weather | 0:01:12 | 0:01:13
to be seen on Saturday. | 0:01:13 | 0:01:15
Heading through, now, into the second half of the weekend, | 0:01:15 | 0:01:18
we've still got the influence of this low pressure, | 0:01:18 | 0:01:20
and a quite active front, I think, at times on Sunday. | 0:01:20 | 0:01:23
So, some uncertainty about the timing and the detail | 0:01:23 | 0:01:25
of any of the rain, | 0:01:25 | 0:01:26
but it looks like we could see rain | 0:01:26 | 0:01:28
for parts of Northern England, the Midlands, Wales, too - | 0:01:28 | 0:01:31
either side of that frontal system, | 0:01:31 | 0:01:33
some drier, some brighter weather, | 0:01:33 | 0:01:34
and temperatures in the mid to the high teens in the north - | 0:01:34 | 0:01:37
but further south, still the mid 20s for some of us, | 0:01:37 | 0:01:40
but there could well be some fairly heavy downpours at times. | 0:01:40 | 0:01:43
And then Monday, for many of us, is a bank holiday Monday - | 0:01:43 | 0:01:46
not everywhere - | 0:01:46 | 0:01:47
but it looks like we're going to be seeing | 0:01:47 | 0:01:49
a ridge of high pressure in charge | 0:01:49 | 0:01:51
across much of the UK. | 0:01:51 | 0:01:52
So, Monday's shaping up to be a relatively fine, quiet day - | 0:01:52 | 0:01:56
low pressure clearing off towards the east, | 0:01:56 | 0:01:58
leaving us with lots of dry weather, | 0:01:58 | 0:02:00
some sunshine, | 0:02:00 | 0:02:01
and temperatures up to around 23, possibly 24 degrees. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:04
Heading through into Tuesday, | 0:02:04 | 0:02:05
we've still got the influence of that high pressure, | 0:02:05 | 0:02:07
but it squeezes a bit further south, | 0:02:07 | 0:02:09
allowing weather fronts to head into the north-west of the UK - | 0:02:09 | 0:02:12
so, potentially some rain on Tuesday, | 0:02:12 | 0:02:14
most likely for northern and western parts of Scotland. | 0:02:14 | 0:02:17
Elsewhere across the UK, | 0:02:17 | 0:02:18
a good deal of dry and reasonably warm weather. | 0:02:18 | 0:02:21
Now, next week, then. | 0:02:21 | 0:02:22
The Azores High, as it's known, | 0:02:22 | 0:02:23
this area of high pressure, | 0:02:23 | 0:02:25
will be in charge. | 0:02:25 | 0:02:26
At times it will squeeze further south, | 0:02:26 | 0:02:28
allowing weather fronts to push a little bit further southwards | 0:02:28 | 0:02:31
and eastwards across the UK - | 0:02:31 | 0:02:32
but the high pressure | 0:02:32 | 0:02:33
looks like it will push further north at times, too, | 0:02:33 | 0:02:35
and most of those weather fronts | 0:02:35 | 0:02:37
will be confined to the far north-west of the country, | 0:02:37 | 0:02:39
so the wettest weather really for parts of Western Scotland, | 0:02:39 | 0:02:42
perhaps Northern Ireland, dry conditions elsewhere. | 0:02:42 | 0:02:44
By the end of next week, though, | 0:02:44 | 0:02:46
we turn our attention to what's happening | 0:02:46 | 0:02:48
in the western Atlantic - | 0:02:48 | 0:02:49
this deep area of low pressure, Tropical Storm Gaston. | 0:02:49 | 0:02:52
It's likely to intensify for a time | 0:02:52 | 0:02:54
into a hurricane, | 0:02:54 | 0:02:55
before weakening as we move towards next weekend. | 0:02:55 | 0:02:58
Now, it looks like it'll get caught up | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
in our jet stream, | 0:03:00 | 0:03:01
heading eastwards across the Atlantic, | 0:03:01 | 0:03:03
but how it's going to influence OUR weather is a little bit uncertain. | 0:03:03 | 0:03:07
There's a chance that this ex-hurricane | 0:03:07 | 0:03:09
could head into the north-west of the UK, | 0:03:09 | 0:03:11
bringing some wet and windy weather here, | 0:03:11 | 0:03:13
but it could head a little bit further north | 0:03:13 | 0:03:15
up towards Iceland, | 0:03:15 | 0:03:16
allowing higher pressure to take charge. | 0:03:16 | 0:03:18
So, the outlook is fairly mixed, then - | 0:03:18 | 0:03:20
some rain at times, mainly in the north-west, | 0:03:20 | 0:03:22
also some sunshine, with the warmest conditions | 0:03:22 | 0:03:25
over the next ten days or so likely towards the south-east. | 0:03:25 | 0:03:28
I'll have more tomorrow. | 0:03:28 | 0:03:29 |
