Hello. Thanks for tuning in to our weather for the next week or so.

0:00:030:00:06

The weather will chop and change a little bit over the next few days.

0:00:060:00:09

One thing that many of us will notice

0:00:090:00:12

is the strength of the wind over the next 48 hours or so.

0:00:120:00:15

Those winds really will be building,

0:00:150:00:17

particularly Scotland, gale-force winds on the way.

0:00:170:00:20

But it won't be that cold.

0:00:200:00:21

In fact temperatures across most of the country

0:00:210:00:23

will be in the upper teens, closer to 20 degrees.

0:00:230:00:26

So one of the reasons

0:00:260:00:27

why it's relatively warm out there

0:00:270:00:29

is this south-westerly air

0:00:290:00:31

coming in from the southern climes.

0:00:310:00:33

But a lot of cloud out there.

0:00:330:00:34

This is the next area of low pressure

0:00:340:00:36

affecting us, come Thursday.

0:00:360:00:38

It's in a development stage.

0:00:380:00:40

And this area of low pressure

0:00:400:00:41

will become stronger and more powerful

0:00:410:00:44

as it moves across the Atlantic,

0:00:440:00:45

develops more and then eventually

0:00:450:00:47

we'll start to see those gale-force winds

0:00:470:00:49

approaching our shores.

0:00:490:00:50

With that, we'll see cloud and rain as well.

0:00:500:00:53

Not everybody will get the wind, cloud and rain,

0:00:530:00:55

but many of us will have an unsettled spell.

0:00:550:00:58

This is Wednesday.

0:00:580:00:59

Actually, not too bad first in the morning.

0:00:590:01:01

There'll be sunshine,

0:01:010:01:02

the afternoon's not looking bad

0:01:020:01:04

across many southern and eastern areas.

0:01:040:01:06

But notice the very outer edges

0:01:060:01:08

of that nasty area of low pressure

0:01:080:01:10

will be making their presence felt

0:01:100:01:12

across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland.

0:01:120:01:15

You can see thicker cloud here

0:01:150:01:17

around the Western coasts,

0:01:170:01:18

but not cold, around 18 to 20 degrees.

0:01:180:01:20

Let's focus on this area of low pressure.

0:01:200:01:23

Here it is. Lots of isobars.

0:01:230:01:25

This is our first, proper autumn blow.

0:01:250:01:27

Gales in the north-west of the country.

0:01:270:01:29

In fact quite stormy here for a time.

0:01:290:01:31

But those strong winds will be pretty nasty

0:01:310:01:33

across the lowlands as well.

0:01:330:01:35

Through the middle of Thursday,

0:01:350:01:37

we could see gusts of 50mph, 60mph

0:01:370:01:38

through these major cities.

0:01:380:01:40

In the far north-west, up to as much as 70mph.

0:01:400:01:43

And this could be problematic for travel.

0:01:430:01:46

There could be restrictions on bridges

0:01:460:01:48

across this part of the country.

0:01:480:01:49

You'll feel the strength of the wind

0:01:490:01:50

further south too, across northern England.

0:01:500:01:52

But lots of fine weather as well,

0:01:520:01:54

so it's not all bad.

0:01:540:01:55

And temperatures still around 20 degrees.

0:01:550:01:57

Once that gale blows through,

0:01:570:01:59

we'll lose the warmer air

0:01:590:02:00

and slightly fresher air will arrive

0:02:000:02:03

from the northern climes.

0:02:030:02:04

So, by Friday, those temperatures take a dip.

0:02:040:02:07

This is early on Friday.

0:02:070:02:08

Still just about holding up into the upper teens

0:02:080:02:11

across the south-east.

0:02:110:02:13

But notice, 13s and 14s,

0:02:130:02:14

so a much fresher feel to things,

0:02:140:02:16

with one or two showers.

0:02:160:02:18

In fact, the showers become

0:02:180:02:19

more extensive, come Saturday.

0:02:190:02:21

Some heavier ones too.

0:02:210:02:22

And for most of us it will be

0:02:220:02:25

around 13 to 15 degrees Celsius.

0:02:250:02:27

So a cooler day on Saturday.

0:02:270:02:29

Then, Saturday night into Sunday,

0:02:290:02:31

so the second half of the weekend,

0:02:310:02:33

the weather does actually improve.

0:02:330:02:35

We're fairly confident there'll be

0:02:350:02:36

lots of dry weather around.

0:02:360:02:38

Exactly how warm it will get,

0:02:380:02:39

I think for most of us around 15 or 16 at best.

0:02:390:02:42

The morning might be chilly,

0:02:420:02:44

but the good news is, for many of us,

0:02:440:02:46

there should be a fair bit of sunshine around.

0:02:460:02:48

Beyond that, the start of next week,

0:02:480:02:50

this is the pattern.

0:02:500:02:51

The jet stream we're expecting

0:02:510:02:52

when we see this dip here,

0:02:520:02:53

we quite often see that area

0:02:530:02:55

of low pressure to the north-west.

0:02:550:02:56

There's a high pressure just to the east of us.

0:02:560:02:59

So that implies the better of any weather

0:02:590:03:01

will be the further south-east and east you are.

0:03:010:03:04

There's a suggestion that perhaps we'll see

0:03:040:03:07

slightly warmer weather coming in from the south.

0:03:070:03:09

But there's always a reservoir of cooler air

0:03:090:03:11

waiting out in the Atlantic.

0:03:110:03:13

So on balance, the best way

0:03:130:03:14

to summarise it is pretty much

0:03:140:03:16

what we'd expect this time of year.

0:03:160:03:18

Cloudy and more unsettled in the north,

0:03:180:03:19

whereas in the south there's a better chance

0:03:190:03:22

of getting some drier weather.

0:03:220:03:24

Not necessarily warm,

0:03:240:03:26

remember, the mornings are getting cooler now

0:03:260:03:28

at this time of the year. Bye-bye
