Hello. So far with this week's weather, | 0:00:00 | 0:00:03
we've been on a little bit of a rollercoaster ride of temperatures. | 0:00:03 | 0:00:06
No two days the same. | 0:00:06 | 0:00:08
One morning we're greeted with cold, | 0:00:08 | 0:00:10
frosty weather conditions just like Thursday. | 0:00:10 | 0:00:14
A beautiful start, but bitterly cold with temperatures down to -8. | 0:00:14 | 0:00:18
This Friday, it was a different story, all change, | 0:00:18 | 0:00:21
milder air flooding in from the west. | 0:00:21 | 0:00:23
It brought cloudier conditions for most of us | 0:00:23 | 0:00:25
and some outbreaks of rain. | 0:00:25 | 0:00:26
That rain will continue to push in from the west accompanied by | 0:00:26 | 0:00:30
a strengthening south-westerly breeze driving in milder air. | 0:00:30 | 0:00:33
Ahead of it, after a chilly start, it looks as though we'll | 0:00:33 | 0:00:36
cling on to some sunshine across the south-east during daylight hours. | 0:00:36 | 0:00:39
Here, still on the chilly side, with 4 or 5 degrees. | 0:00:39 | 0:00:42
Up into the north-west behind that weather front, | 0:00:42 | 0:00:45
milder air starts to push through. | 0:00:45 | 0:00:47
It's going to be the milder air that wins the story through the weather | 0:00:47 | 0:00:51
over the weekend, pushing the cold air back into the near continent. | 0:00:51 | 0:00:54
So, for many of us, we'll see those temperatures slightly above | 0:00:54 | 0:00:56
average for the time of year, | 0:00:56 | 0:00:58
once the rain has cleared away. | 0:00:58 | 0:01:00
It pushes through during the early hours of Saturday morning, | 0:01:00 | 0:01:03
behind it misty, perhaps some hill fog around first thing. | 0:01:03 | 0:01:06
A lot of low, grey cloud, | 0:01:06 | 0:01:08
but not a bad day for many and temperatures will respond. | 0:01:08 | 0:01:11
A bit more of a breeze up into the north, | 0:01:11 | 0:01:13
but highs of 6 to 12 degrees is quite likely. | 0:01:13 | 0:01:17
As we move out of Saturday into Sunday, | 0:01:17 | 0:01:20
we see this weak weather front pushing into the north-west. | 0:01:20 | 0:01:22
The winds strengthening here, but on the whole, | 0:01:22 | 0:01:25
high pressure still very much in the driving seat. | 0:01:25 | 0:01:28
That means very little in the way of change. | 0:01:28 | 0:01:30
It looks as though we keep the cloudy conditions. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:32
Early morning mist and fog could be an issue for a time, | 0:01:32 | 0:01:35
but not for long. That will lift away. | 0:01:35 | 0:01:38
It stays rather dull, largely dry, | 0:01:38 | 0:01:40
the cloud thick enough for a spot of drizzle from time to time. | 0:01:40 | 0:01:43
All change though as we move into Monday, | 0:01:43 | 0:01:46
so make the most of the weekend's weather. | 0:01:46 | 0:01:48
Milder for many, a lot of cloud around and the cloud thick | 0:01:48 | 0:01:51
enough from time to time for some patchy drizzle. | 0:01:51 | 0:01:54
So the first change comes into Monday as we see some wetter | 0:01:54 | 0:01:58
and windier weather pushing in from the north-west. | 0:01:58 | 0:02:01
The isobars squeezing together. Gales are quite likely. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:04
Some of that rain could be quite heavy as it pushes into the | 0:02:04 | 0:02:07
north-west of the country slowly sinking its way steadily south. | 0:02:07 | 0:02:11
So it's going to be a wet and windy, but a mild affair during Monday. | 0:02:11 | 0:02:14
Again, staying largely dry during daylight hours with double | 0:02:14 | 0:02:17
figures widely across the country. | 0:02:17 | 0:02:19
Something a little bit cooler | 0:02:19 | 0:02:20
and fresher starts to show its hand as we move out of Monday. | 0:02:20 | 0:02:24
The isobars are still tightly packed together, | 0:02:24 | 0:02:27
the wind swinging round to a more north-westerly direction | 0:02:27 | 0:02:30
before the next area of low pressure moves in. | 0:02:30 | 0:02:32
This is going to be the general trend as we move through next week. | 0:02:32 | 0:02:36
So, we've been looking at a six to ten-day forecast of the jet stream. | 0:02:36 | 0:02:40
We now have associated that it is strengthening and sitting up | 0:02:40 | 0:02:42
to the far north and that's allowing these low pressure systems to | 0:02:42 | 0:02:46
move in from the Atlantic. | 0:02:46 | 0:02:47
Things turning a little more mobile, a little more unsettled. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:51
If we look at a low in a little more detail, though, | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
as the low approaches, it drives in and it pulls in this milder air. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:57
But then, as the low clears away on the back edge of that low, | 0:02:57 | 0:03:01
we see a north-westerly flow. | 0:03:01 | 0:03:03
The colder air set to return. | 0:03:03 | 0:03:05
This is why we're getting this rollercoaster feel of temperatures. | 0:03:05 | 0:03:09
One day will be cloudy and often wet at times and that's likely | 0:03:09 | 0:03:13
into the six to ten-day period. | 0:03:13 | 0:03:15
But as the low pulls away, we'll see that colder air digging in. | 0:03:15 | 0:03:18
So it will be on the chilly side, but hopefully from time to time | 0:03:18 | 0:03:21
we'll get a little more in the way of sunshine. | 0:03:21 | 0:03:24
That's how it's looking. | 0:03:24 | 0:03:25
Whatever you are doing this weekend, | 0:03:25 | 0:03:27
enjoy and bear in mind things turn unsettled next week. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:29 |
