Hello there. We've seen some fairly cold and bright weather | 0:00:02 | 0:00:05
over the past couple of days, | 0:00:05 | 0:00:06
but things have been turning milder and cloudier | 0:00:06 | 0:00:08
through the course of Friday and as we head through the weekend, | 0:00:08 | 0:00:11
that theme to the weather is set to continue. | 0:00:11 | 0:00:13
The cold air that's been with us | 0:00:13 | 0:00:14
moving away towards the east | 0:00:14 | 0:00:16
and what we're seeing is this milder air | 0:00:16 | 0:00:17
moving in from the Atlantic | 0:00:17 | 0:00:19
so that's going to be staying put through the weekend. | 0:00:19 | 0:00:21
Things are looking generally mild and frost-free. | 0:00:21 | 0:00:23
Still pretty cloudy, I think, over the next couple of days | 0:00:23 | 0:00:26
and there'll be a little bit of patchy drizzle around, | 0:00:26 | 0:00:28
but, equally, some wintry sunshine, | 0:00:28 | 0:00:30
especially towards the north. | 0:00:30 | 0:00:31
So, this is how Saturday's looking. | 0:00:31 | 0:00:33
High pressure is with us | 0:00:33 | 0:00:34
so lots of dry weather. | 0:00:34 | 0:00:35
A little bit of patchy light rain | 0:00:35 | 0:00:37
and drizzle across parts of southern England, | 0:00:37 | 0:00:39
into Wales as well. | 0:00:39 | 0:00:40
Further north across the country, | 0:00:40 | 0:00:41
that's your best bet of catching some sunshine. | 0:00:41 | 0:00:43
For northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, | 0:00:43 | 0:00:45
some bright spells here, | 0:00:45 | 0:00:46
but temperatures in single figures. | 0:00:46 | 0:00:48
Milder, ten or 11 towards the south, | 0:00:48 | 0:00:50
but pretty murky | 0:00:50 | 0:00:51
with quite a lot of low cloud and hill fog. | 0:00:51 | 0:00:53
Heading through into the second half of the weekend, | 0:00:53 | 0:00:55
then, overnight Saturday into Sunday, | 0:00:55 | 0:00:57
we've still got a lot of cloud around | 0:00:57 | 0:00:59
so some mist, some hill fog, | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
most of us frost-free under that cloud. | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
There could be a bit of frost | 0:01:03 | 0:01:04
across rural parts of Scotland, | 0:01:04 | 0:01:05
perhaps into the northeast of England, too. | 0:01:05 | 0:01:08
To start the day on Sunday, then, quite a murky start. | 0:01:08 | 0:01:10
Some mist, some fog | 0:01:10 | 0:01:11
and some low cloud around, too. | 0:01:11 | 0:01:13
Most of us looking dry with light winds. | 0:01:13 | 0:01:15
Temperatures ten or 11 towards the west, | 0:01:15 | 0:01:17
but slightly fresher in the east. | 0:01:17 | 0:01:19
So, as we head into the new working week, | 0:01:19 | 0:01:21
what we're going to see is high pressure | 0:01:21 | 0:01:23
sitting out to the south | 0:01:23 | 0:01:24
or the southwest of the UK. | 0:01:24 | 0:01:25
We've got this weather front Sunday night | 0:01:25 | 0:01:28
trying to move into the northwest | 0:01:28 | 0:01:29
and the isobars becoming quite close here | 0:01:29 | 0:01:31
so, really, as we set up the week ahead, | 0:01:31 | 0:01:33
what we are going to see | 0:01:33 | 0:01:34
is high pressure out to the southwest. | 0:01:34 | 0:01:36
The jet stream orientated from west to east | 0:01:36 | 0:01:38
across the Atlantic, | 0:01:38 | 0:01:39
bringing us areas of low pressure at times | 0:01:39 | 0:01:42
so the first of those low pressure systems | 0:01:42 | 0:01:44
arrives on Monday. | 0:01:44 | 0:01:45
It's going to be bringing some wet and windy weather | 0:01:45 | 0:01:47
initially to the northwest of the UK, | 0:01:47 | 0:01:49
pushing its way south-eastwards through the day. | 0:01:49 | 0:01:52
To the southeast of that, pretty mild. | 0:01:52 | 0:01:53
Double figures, slightly cooler conditions | 0:01:53 | 0:01:55
working in on that north-westerly breeze | 0:01:55 | 0:01:57
behind the weather front | 0:01:57 | 0:01:58
so once that front moves its way through, | 0:01:58 | 0:02:00
it does bring that spell of wet and windy weather | 0:02:00 | 0:02:02
and then we're back into quite a breezy spell | 0:02:02 | 0:02:04
of weather heading on into Tuesday. | 0:02:04 | 0:02:06
The winds coming in from a north-westerly direction | 0:02:06 | 0:02:08
so after a mild couple of days, | 0:02:08 | 0:02:10
Tuesday once again turning that little bit colder, | 0:02:10 | 0:02:12
but we should see a return | 0:02:12 | 0:02:14
to some sunshine and temperatures | 0:02:14 | 0:02:16
generally around about seven to nine degrees | 0:02:16 | 0:02:19
for most of us. | 0:02:19 | 0:02:20
So, heading into the middle of the week, then, | 0:02:20 | 0:02:22
no great change in the set-up to the weather. | 0:02:22 | 0:02:24
We've still got high pressure out towards the southwest | 0:02:24 | 0:02:26
and again we've got frontal systems trying to move in | 0:02:26 | 0:02:29
from the Atlantic and head their way eastwards | 0:02:29 | 0:02:31
across the country. | 0:02:31 | 0:02:32
So, through the course of Wednesday and Thursday, | 0:02:32 | 0:02:34
through the middle part of the week, | 0:02:34 | 0:02:36
we're going to see these areas of low pressure | 0:02:36 | 0:02:38
bringing quite mild air at times | 0:02:38 | 0:02:39
with quite a lot of cloud, | 0:02:39 | 0:02:41
outbreaks of rain on these frontal systems | 0:02:41 | 0:02:43
and then to the rear of the frontal systems | 0:02:43 | 0:02:45
as they move their way eastwards. | 0:02:45 | 0:02:47
A return to a north-westerly flow | 0:02:47 | 0:02:49
so colder interludes in the weather | 0:02:49 | 0:02:51
through the middle of the week. | 0:02:51 | 0:02:52
As we look towards the end of the week, | 0:02:52 | 0:02:54
it looks like those colder north-westerly winds | 0:02:54 | 0:02:57
will tend to win out | 0:02:57 | 0:02:58
so we'll return to slightly drier conditions, | 0:02:58 | 0:03:01
but also colder. | 0:03:01 | 0:03:02
A chance of some wintry showers around, | 0:03:02 | 0:03:03
more particularly over the higher ground | 0:03:03 | 0:03:05
in the north and northwest. | 0:03:05 | 0:03:06
Down towards the south, things will look quieter | 0:03:06 | 0:03:09
with lighter winds so scenes like this likely, | 0:03:09 | 0:03:11
particularly in the south. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:12
Some frost, possibly some fog around, too, at times, | 0:03:12 | 0:03:15
but further north, it will be quite cold | 0:03:15 | 0:03:17
so a dip in the temperatures once again | 0:03:17 | 0:03:18
as we look towards next weekend. | 0:03:18 | 0:03:20
There'll be some sunshine on offer, | 0:03:20 | 0:03:22
also the chance of some wintry showers, | 0:03:22 | 0:03:24
particularly over the higher ground in the north | 0:03:24 | 0:03:26
and a return to frost further south. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:28
Bye for now. | 0:03:28 | 0:03:30
