Over the past few days, the weather has been

0:00:020:00:03

starting to feel a bit less like winter

0:00:030:00:05

and rather more like spring.

0:00:050:00:07

Certainly during the course of Saturday, we had a mild day,

0:00:070:00:11

the warmest day of the year so far,

0:00:110:00:12

15 degrees in North Wales.

0:00:120:00:14

Here's the sunshine captured by a weather watcher

0:00:140:00:16

in Kingston, Greater London,

0:00:160:00:17

during the course of Saturday.

0:00:170:00:19

Now, through the week ahead, things will stay mild,

0:00:190:00:21

particularly for the first part of the week.

0:00:210:00:23

There will be wind and rain at times,

0:00:230:00:24

mainly towards the north-west,

0:00:240:00:26

but equally, some sunshine around in the south and east,

0:00:260:00:28

and where we do get that sunshine coming through on Monday,

0:00:280:00:31

we could well see those thermometers rise

0:00:310:00:33

to around about 17 Celsius or so

0:00:330:00:36

in a few sheltered spots towards the east -

0:00:360:00:38

not everyone seeing

0:00:380:00:40

those very mild temperatures.

0:00:400:00:42

Through Sunday, what have we got?

0:00:420:00:43

We've got a lot of cloud moving in from the west,

0:00:430:00:45

some of that low cloud

0:00:450:00:46

bringing some mist, hill fog and drizzle

0:00:460:00:48

for the likes of the west of Scotland,

0:00:480:00:50

Northern Ireland, Wales

0:00:500:00:51

and western parts of England, too.

0:00:510:00:53

Central and eastern parts of England

0:00:530:00:55

and eastern Scotland should see the best

0:00:550:00:57

of the sunshine, and here,

0:00:570:00:58

we're likely to see temperatures

0:00:580:01:00

of 12 or 13 degrees.

0:01:000:01:01

Further west, it looks like

0:01:010:01:03

around 10 or 11 Celsius

0:01:030:01:04

with the outbreaks of patchy rain

0:01:040:01:06

and the low cloud and hill fog.

0:01:060:01:07

We'll continue to see that rain

0:01:070:01:09

across the west of Scotland,

0:01:090:01:10

quite a breeze blowing here

0:01:100:01:11

through Sunday night.

0:01:110:01:12

Some of that rain sinking south

0:01:120:01:14

across parts of northern England and Wales.

0:01:140:01:16

But we have got this very mild air

0:01:160:01:18

sitting out towards the south-west

0:01:180:01:20

and our winds are going to be coming

0:01:200:01:21

from that direction,

0:01:210:01:22

so blowing that very mild air

0:01:220:01:24

across our shores.

0:01:240:01:25

Not everyone is seeing it.

0:01:250:01:26

It'll be fresher for Northern Ireland

0:01:260:01:28

and Scotland, quite a breeze blowing here

0:01:280:01:29

and outbreaks of rain,

0:01:290:01:31

whereas further south and east

0:01:310:01:32

across England and Wales,

0:01:320:01:33

that's where you've got the mild air.

0:01:330:01:35

Most places dry. Where the cloud breaks,

0:01:350:01:36

we're likely to see temperatures

0:01:360:01:38

as high as perhaps 15, even 17 degrees or so,

0:01:380:01:41

just in a few spots.

0:01:410:01:43

Not quite as warm further north, though.

0:01:430:01:46

So, we've still got that mild air with us

0:01:460:01:48

as we head through the last part of Monday

0:01:480:01:50

and on into Tuesday, too.

0:01:500:01:51

You'll notice the wind arrows

0:01:510:01:52

coming in from a west or north-westerly direction

0:01:520:01:55

towards northern parts of the country,

0:01:550:01:56

so some cooler conditions for a time

0:01:560:01:58

as we look through Tuesday

0:01:580:01:59

towards the north-west and, again,

0:01:590:02:01

it's western parts of the country that will

0:02:010:02:03

tend to see more cloud and outbreaks of rain,

0:02:030:02:05

whereas eastern areas will stay predominantly dry

0:02:050:02:08

through the day on Tuesday,

0:02:080:02:09

with some sunshine for the likes of Aberdeenshire,

0:02:090:02:12

down towards East Anglia and Kent, too.

0:02:120:02:14

Temperatures, by the time we get to Tuesday,

0:02:140:02:16

probably not quite as warm as Monday,

0:02:160:02:18

but still between about 10 to 13 degrees

0:02:180:02:21

for most of us.

0:02:210:02:22

Now, here's the pressure,

0:02:220:02:23

looking into the middle part of the week.

0:02:230:02:25

We've got low pressure

0:02:250:02:26

moving to the north of the UK,

0:02:260:02:27

some quite tight isobars, I think,

0:02:270:02:29

heading into Wednesday,

0:02:290:02:30

as the frontal system moves its way

0:02:300:02:31

west to east across the country,

0:02:310:02:33

so a blustery feel to the weather

0:02:330:02:34

by the time we get to Wednesday.

0:02:340:02:36

Some rain towards the west,

0:02:360:02:38

slowly making its way southwards and eastwards,

0:02:380:02:40

but that should peter out, I think,

0:02:400:02:41

later on in the day.

0:02:410:02:43

A return to fresher conditions

0:02:430:02:44

with sunshine and showers -

0:02:440:02:45

still, temperatures up

0:02:450:02:46

at around 13 or 14 degrees.

0:02:460:02:48

Heading towards Thursday,

0:02:480:02:50

a slightly colder night, I think,

0:02:500:02:51

Wednesday night into Thursday.

0:02:510:02:53

Then we see this next frontal system

0:02:530:02:54

approaching from the Atlantic,

0:02:540:02:56

could be some hill snow

0:02:560:02:57

on the northern edge of that,

0:02:570:02:58

then looking towards the end

0:02:580:02:59

of next week into next weekend,

0:02:590:03:01

it does look like we'll have

0:03:010:03:02

this kind of set-up -

0:03:020:03:03

low-pressure moving into the north-west,

0:03:030:03:05

higher pressure sitting out

0:03:050:03:06

across the near continent, dragging in the air

0:03:060:03:08

from predominately a west

0:03:080:03:09

or south-westerly direction,

0:03:090:03:11

bringing some fairly unsettled weather,

0:03:110:03:13

mainly towards the north-west of the country,

0:03:130:03:15

with wind and rain at times, too,

0:03:150:03:16

perhaps even a little hill snow,

0:03:160:03:18

and after that very mild start to the week,

0:03:180:03:20

things will start to turn a little bit colder

0:03:200:03:22

once again by next weekend.

0:03:220:03:24

That's it for now.

0:03:240:03:25

Helen Willetts will update you tomorrow.

0:03:250:03:27

Bye-bye.
