Hello, thanks for joining me, it's that time where we try to

0:00:020:00:04

give you a sense not only just of what's going on in the next few days

0:00:040:00:07

or so, but we give you a sense of what's likely to be going on

0:00:070:00:10

as far ahead as the forthcoming weekend.

0:00:100:00:13

Over the next few days, the

0:00:130:00:15

jet stream will be powering areas

0:00:150:00:17

of low pressure towards the British Isles.

0:00:170:00:20

There's no great meander in

0:00:200:00:22

the jet just at the moment.

0:00:220:00:24

It is very much a direct line

0:00:240:00:26

from what's going on across in the

0:00:260:00:28

eastern side of the USA to

0:00:280:00:29

us here in the British Isles.

0:00:290:00:32

And when we get that sort of set-up, well, it is that sort

0:00:320:00:35

of time of year where we keep the unsettled weather coming.

0:00:350:00:38

There will be some blustery winds and some spells of really

0:00:380:00:41

quite significant rain at times as well.

0:00:410:00:43

The first of those perhaps manifesting itself across the

0:00:430:00:45

southern half of Britain

0:00:450:00:46

in the first half of Sunday.

0:00:460:00:48

At least it's on the move so

0:00:480:00:49

after a wet start across the

0:00:490:00:51

south-western quarter, it gradually

0:00:510:00:52

drives its way towards Wales,

0:00:520:00:54

The Midlands, East Anglia and parts of

0:00:540:00:55

the south-east with blustery

0:00:550:00:56

showers following on behind

0:00:560:00:58

and pretty strong winds as well,

0:00:580:00:59

50/60 mile an hour gusts for a time.

0:00:590:01:01

But the good news of the day is

0:01:010:01:02

that it's a much improved picture

0:01:020:01:04

across Scotland, Northern Ireland

0:01:040:01:05

and the north of England.

0:01:050:01:06

There will be some sunshine

0:01:060:01:08

and the persistent rain largely saved

0:01:080:01:10

for the Shetland Isles.

0:01:100:01:12

Now, as that system tends to drift away,

0:01:120:01:14

it only makes room for another

0:01:140:01:16

one in the first part of Monday,

0:01:160:01:18

just to give a glancing blow into

0:01:180:01:20

the south-western quarter of the British Isles.

0:01:200:01:22

But in its own right,

0:01:220:01:24

that will be another spell

0:01:240:01:25

of rather wet and windy fare.

0:01:250:01:28

Monday elsewhere, a sort of

0:01:280:01:29

in-betweeny sort of day, not an

0:01:290:01:31

awful lot going on, quite a bit of dry weather around,

0:01:310:01:33

some brightness, the bulk of

0:01:330:01:35

the showers to be found across the northern and

0:01:350:01:37

north-western parts of Scotland and

0:01:370:01:38

indeed, Northern Ireland.

0:01:380:01:40

Now the isobars just start to

0:01:400:01:41

ridge from Monday into Tuesday.

0:01:410:01:44

More settled conditions,

0:01:440:01:45

what a pity much of that comes in

0:01:450:01:47

overnight from Monday to Tuesday

0:01:470:01:48

which will be quite a chilly night

0:01:480:01:50

and then we'll again be

0:01:500:01:51

looking towards the Atlantic to

0:01:510:01:53

see the next spell of pretty wet

0:01:530:01:54

weather piling its way in

0:01:540:01:56

towards Northern Ireland and eventually

0:01:560:01:58

the Western fringes of

0:01:580:01:59

Scotland, Western England and through Wales

0:01:590:02:01

with the very best of the weather to be found

0:02:010:02:03

through Tuesday away towards the east.

0:02:030:02:06

Until the fronts come to get you even here.

0:02:060:02:09

But at least the frontal systems

0:02:090:02:10

clear away for the most part

0:02:100:02:12

both into the north sea and down

0:02:120:02:13

into the English Channel

0:02:130:02:15

although that's quite a close

0:02:150:02:16

run thing so there'll still be

0:02:160:02:17

a lot of cloud on Wednesday here.

0:02:170:02:19

Looking further north, that low

0:02:190:02:20

pressure not a million miles away.

0:02:200:02:21

Some pretty strong winds in that circulation across the

0:02:210:02:24

north-western quarter of Scotland.

0:02:240:02:25

We're probably talking gale force winds and

0:02:250:02:27

so a blustery day elsewhere and

0:02:270:02:29

then we get into the latter stages

0:02:290:02:31

of next week and there is some

0:02:310:02:33

uncertainty about the overall

0:02:330:02:34

message here but we suspect,

0:02:340:02:36

as I was intimating earlier,

0:02:360:02:38

that the jet stream will be firing

0:02:380:02:40

those low pressures close by

0:02:400:02:41

to the north-western quarter

0:02:410:02:43

of the British Isles with

0:02:430:02:45

high pressure trying to hang on

0:02:450:02:47

down in the south-western quarter.

0:02:470:02:49

Now, as far ahead as next weekend,

0:02:490:02:51

this could be the scenario.

0:02:510:02:53

Low close by to Denmark,

0:02:530:02:54

high pressure away towards the south-west

0:02:540:02:56

and that will leave us with

0:02:560:02:58

a north or north-westerly flow,

0:02:580:03:00

never a warm direction at this time of year.

0:03:000:03:03

The outlier solution in models at

0:03:030:03:04

the moment is that we could have

0:03:040:03:06

a low pressure close to the English Channel with high pressure

0:03:060:03:08

a little further north

0:03:080:03:10

and that would suggest an east or

0:03:100:03:12

north-easterly, again, never a warm

0:03:120:03:14

direction and you may well say,

0:03:140:03:16

"Well that's just a little bit of a

0:03:160:03:18

"nuance, a little bit of a subtlety,"

0:03:180:03:19

but it does mean that whatever model

0:03:190:03:22

wins out, things will turn colder,

0:03:220:03:24

it will be a windy week and it will

0:03:240:03:26

often be really quite unsettled.

0:03:260:03:28

Bye-bye.
